The Val de Saône presents a typical landscape mosaic of wet meadows, groves, alluvial forests and occasionally lones and ponds. The "la Prairie du Val de Saône" loop is the easiest hike in the department.

As you walk along the footpaths of Saint-Etienne-la-Varenne, discover 6 hiking paths that will enable you to walk all the way round the village (they last from 45 minutes to 3 ½ hours).

The loop follows part of the walking and cycling pathof Beaujolais which is a developed route, away from cars and reserved for bicycles, rollerblades, strollers ... 15 km long, it connects Beaujeu to Belleville-en-Beaujolais.

In 2018, Beaujolais was awarded the Géopark label. This UNESCO distinction recognizes exceptional geological heritage. The toughest loop in this area. The 15 km will not be easy for neophytes.

From the village of Chaneins, discover the Etang Prêle sensitive natural area and its ecosystem. Several castles, including Chaillouvres on the edge of its pond, can be seen, and you'll have a panoramic view of the Beaujolais region. Close to the ViaRhôna and the Voie Bleue, the Dombes is also a great area for cycling, walking and horse-riding! It's up to you to choose your itinerary and means of transport... Breathe in, breathe out, you're in the Dombes. Imagine the Dombes, land of a thousand ponds, as a festival of colors, scents and sounds. The GR® de Pays Beaujolais-Bugey par la Dombes links the hills of the Lyonnais to the south of Bugey. It winds its way through the vineyards of Beaujolais, along the towpath of the Saône and through the Dombes region of lakes. The GR® de Pays Beaujolais-Bugey par la Dombes starts from the GR®76 near the village of Sainte-Paule (Rhône) and crosses several lines of hills before joining the Saône. It crosses the Saône to enter the Ain between Anse and St-Bernard. From here, it follows the towpath to Parcieux. It then crosses the Dombes plateau and its ponds. It crosses the Ain at the Chazey bridge, and after skirting the Rhône, climbs up to join the GR®59 in the Bugey mountains.

The Sentier Victor is a trail to outline your exploration of the Beaujolais region, more specifically, the northern part, where the vines for our Crus grow. Hikers, explore the "Sentier Victor" on foot or mountain bike. You are going to be following winding paths between vines, pasture, moors and forests. From slopes to valleys the vistas you'll discover range from intimist to grandiose, their palate of colours changing with the seasons.

Climb to the top, follow in the footsteps of Estelle, an experienced hiker who will show you 80 kms of marked trails in the heart of the Beaujolais region. Surrounded by moorland and pastures, vineyards and forests, this trail passes through six picturesque villages. You will find a wide variety of paths throughout the seasons as you walk with your friends. Nature lovers and hikers will find what they are looking for on these trails winding their way through 6 picturesque Beaujolais villages: Beaujeu, Les Ardillats, Vernay, Saint Didier sur Beaujeu, Quincié, Marchampt. Gaze at Saint-Sixte Basilica where St. John Vianney is laid to rest. The building is listed as a Monument Historique and was built by Pierre-Marie Bossan who also built Lyon's Fourvière Basilica. Its sea green domes are typical of Neo-Byzantine style. 350,000 pilgrims from around the world stop in the village of Ars every year for a spiritual or tourist break. Pope John Paul II visited in October 1986. The basilica is built on the site of a 12th century Roman church and was expanded in 1862. The presence of a river toll and the town's geopolitical location meant a stone fortress had to be built in the late 13th century. The Saône marked the border between the French Kingdom (right bank) and the Holy Roman Empire (left bank). Trévoux was an important tolled crossing point on the Empire's land. Aside from stunning views of the Saône, Dombes plateau and Beaujolais, you can gaze at an imposing building listed as a Monument Historique in 1913 and seen as one of the Ain region's top sites.

Whether as a family, a group or with friends, come and take part in an 8 km nature hike. There' s a surprise waiting for you on your way back! The Beaujolais Tourist Office has set up an 8 km orienteering hike for children (from 8 years old). Each participant must pick up a card at the Tourist Office and punch it at each beacon they find along the route. At the end of the trail, the children come to open the treasure chest! !

Also known as the "the pearl of golden stoned villages" Oingt is the only village in the department to have been added to the list of "most beautiful villages in France".

25Km GPS-guided off-road electric scooter ride through the heart of the Beaujolais region, with a gourmet break halfway through, the famous "Mâchon Beaujolais". Meet in the parking lot of the Salle d'Animation Rurale in Frontenas, get to grips with the machines, then set off on a guided GPS ride lasting around 1 hour. At the halfway point, I'll be waiting for you to take a relaxing, convivial and gourmet break, accompanied by the famous "Mâchon Beaujolais", made up of local charcuterie, farmhouse cheeses, Beaujolais wine and sweets. At the end of this stop, you'll continue your tour for about 1 hour.

At the end of the last century, the Count "des Chaux" made tear away (extract) the vineyard and replaced it by a park of enjoyment with bridle paths. Main sorts date the creation of the park: white maple, pectimé fir tree, griffithii pine, séquoïa, spruce, etc. We thus reach the Tower of the Minimes, very beautiful belvedere that will soon be built as part of the Contract of Country. On this site many legends were built, we speak of underground that would cross the river, allowing a squire to make his court to his beautiful who lived on the hill of Brouilly in Beaujolais.

Site major and rich in history, discover the Chapel "des Minimes", dating XI century, and appreciate the outside of the Tower, 20 meters high and surrounded with 634 vine stocks. The Minimes Tour is 20m high and gives some lovely views of the Beaujolais Vineyards and the River Saône. Once governed by Cluny Abbey the Minimes Chapel has nearly one thousand years of history associated with it. It is possible to view both the chapel and the tower from the exterior all year round. They are only open to the public on Sundays between 16:00 and 19:00 during July and August and on National Heritage Day in September. Guided visits are available (in French only) for groups by appointment with the tourist office.

Fléchères is the largest château open to visitors in Dombes & Saône and the environ s of Lyon. Built between 1606 and 1625 and preserved intact, it offers an exceptional vision of the life of the nobility of Lyon in the 17th century. The Château de Fléchères is a beautifully preserved piece of 17th century architecture. The château houses a selection of magnificent frescos by the Italian artist Pietro Ricchi that date from 1632. A visit to the château also allows you to admire the great carved fireplaces, the grand open staircase, a Louis XV panelled apartment with period furnishings and the early 17th century kitchens that are still in working order. Outside the château is surrounded by 40 hectares of lush green parkland which include the English gardens, fountains and a lake. The Château de Fléchères is open every day during July and August and there are guided tours of the château available that take about 1 hour to complete.

The Hôtel-Dieu was opened in 1733 and has remained unchanged since, making this a unique building in the Beaujolais.
