The start of this walk is at Le Port, 3.5 km from the village, which was once the departure point for the boats that transported the chestnut wood used to make the Bordeaux barrels. Hiking trail "des Puys". The village of Calvinet has a rich historical past. The first origins date back to 1250 with Eustache Beaumarchais, bailiff of the Mounts of Auvergne. Mountain bike route "In the heart of the chestnut trees". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points for €0.50. A tour that will allow you to appreciate many typical villages in the heart of the Châtaigneraie such as Calvinet, your starting point (at the church) or the ‘chestnut village’, Mourjou. There are superb viewpoints on a very varied route, including the Aubrac plateau, the north of Aveyron and the Rance Valley. Numerous rich and varied panoramas due to a fairly long circuit crossing several different types of landscape (forest, plain, countryside, towns).

Visit of the medieval fortress of Vieillevie (11th-13th centuries) in July and August. Storytelling tours (in French): Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm. It is an authentic defensive fortress: sentry walks, archways, and defensive hoardings. Situated in the north of the Aveyron, 10 km from the famous village of Conques, Château de Sénergues has only been open to the public since 2023. The family who have owned it for 7 centuries welcome you on certain days to visit the 24-metre-high keep and its beautiful interior rooms, and enjoy the magnificent 360-degree view. You need to be in good physical condition to visit the keep, and the visit is not recommended for people suffering from claustrophobia or extreme vertigo. Sénezergues is located South of the natural region of Veinazès, in the Southern part of the Châtaigneraie. The village above the Auze river is connected to two important hiking paths, crossing the diversity of the Châtaigneraie landscapes.

Saint-Santin is an unusual village. It's hard to imagine driving through it, given its modest size, the fact that it is divided into two communes and straddles two départements and even two regions!

About 30 species of wild orchids are present on these few hectares which gather a quarter of the French flora and more than half of the Auvergne flora in orchids. The climate of the limestone mounds (former lake basin) located between Saint-Santin-de-Maurs and Montmurat is one of the mildest and driest in Cantal. These conditions give the landscapes, agriculture and natural environments a pronounced southern character. Free access on foot from the village of Saint-Santin-de-Maurs. The animal and plant species living on this Natura 2000 site are protected, so be careful.
