WORTH KNOWING: Numerous sites have been occupied on the Malbousquet crest since the Bronze Age. On one of the hills overlooking the village, the Jouffe site, excavations have revealed the location of a protohistoric oppidum, which was later reoccupied during the Roman period. In the 11th century, a priory was built here, of which all that remains are the ruins of the church, abandoned at the time of the Wars of Religion. On the hill below are the ruins of the Castellas, a castle built in the 11th century.

From Fontanès to Caveirac, you pass orchards and olive groves, vineyards and meadows, with hills covered in holm oaks and pine forests and dense garrigue. You'll see manades (bull farms) and, just before Sommières, a splendid panorama of the Pic Saint-Loup. From here, you can access a number of villages and tourist sites in the Pays de Sommières. Departures are possible from Sommières and Calvisson. Unlike a cycle path, which is reserved exclusively for cyclists, a voie verte is a facility reserved for non-motorized traffic: bicycles, pedestrians, rollerbladers and sometimes horseback riders. The Vaunage greenway is built on a former railroad line. Ideal for beginners, families or a leisurely stroll, set off for adventure on this unsuspected itinerary! Connected to the voie verte, two cyclo-découvertes loops on roads shared between bikes and cars allow you to extend your escapade: the Le Vidourle loop from Sommières (34 km) and the Les Olivettes loop from Calvisson (21 km).

A trail that takes you on a journey through the garrigue, a Mediterranean landscape shaped by man's pastoral activities over the millennia and up until the 1950s. The Chemin des laines owes its name to the scraps of wool hung on bushes by ewes as they grazed in the garrigue. Today, many vestiges remain along the paths between Vaunage and Sommierois, including the typical dry-stone constructions known as "capitelles", which have recently been restored. At the Fontaine du Coucou, follow the signs for Queyrolles, then turn right to admire the capitelles and views over the plain as far as the Balcon de la Liquière. 4. At the Balcon de la Liquière, you can continue the Balade du Coucou loop, also known as the sentier des capitelles, by turning left towards La Queyrolle (loop) and then back up to the Balcon de La Liquière (+3 km). 5. Follow La Liquière then Grande Place, Puech des Buis, Labadel, Mas de Puech Long, Le Terme Blanc, La Manade, Chantale Basse, Val Claude, Cante-Perdrix, Maupas and Ournèzes. 6. Then direction Chemin Font du Coucou, Mazet de Guiraud and return to Place du Général de Gaulle via Rue du 8 mai 1945 and Rue de Plaisance to Place du Général de Gaulle. The chapel is the oldest sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the Gard, set in the garrigue. On the heights of Montmirat, overlooking the Courme valley, the chapel of Notre-Dame de Jouffe is the oldest sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the Gard. A collection of boutis embroidery, with exceptional pieces from the 18th and 19th centuries. The Maison du Boutis is a museum and workshop dedicated to the traditional art of boutis, a technique of embroidery in relief used to make clothes and household linen. The assembly of two pieces of fabric embellished with small-stitch embroidery will be ‘emboutied’ (trimmed) with strands of cotton. These works are dedicated to the happy events of life, and are above all highly symbolic motifs that are embroidered. The museum has a unique collection tracing the history of this craft, which became an art form in its own right in the 18th and 19th centuries in Provence and the Bas-Languedoc.
