This circuit will make you see several dolmens, a "mound" where large slabs were collected by our ancestors of the Neolithic, a hike that alternates between fields and undergrowth that crosses pretty villages.

This path will make you discover the limestone hills around Loudun. Privileged witnesses of the geological and historical evolution of our regions, they tell the formidable story of the Neolithic men who were sanctuaries there, relayed later by the Celts and the Gallo-Romans.

The Chemin d'Aliénor is a 90 km cycling route. It links the Loire à Vélo to the Scandiberique via the Ligne Verte, an old railroad line between Châtellerault and Loudun.

A short, signposted route through the Poitou vineyards at the gateway to Anjou. Within a small area, the historic and built heritage is incomparably rich: picturesque villages, troglodytic sites, mills, dolmens, wash-houses and dovecotes form an uninterrupted string of secret nuggets.

Former railway line linking Châtellerault and Loudun, this green line is a fabulous way to discover the heritage and the land of Poitou, thanks to the educational and entertaining terminals scattered along the route for the greatest pleasure of all! The green line is 37 km long and includes 18 km of Loudunaise section. It is also possible to follow it on foot or on horseback.

Since 1825, the same gestures have been repeated... Founded in Paris in 1825 and based in the Saumur region since 1994, CBG Mignot has been perpetuating the great tradition of lead soldiers for almost two hundred years. The fundamentally artisanal nature of this production means that no two figurines are alike, and each one is in some way an original. This personalisation of each figurine in no way detracts from the historical accuracy. Last but not least for collectors is the rarity of the figurines, due to the very slow pace at which they are produced by hand. Visit the CBG Mignot workshop: - For individuals: Visit the reception room (where the different stages in the manufacture of the figurines are explained using panels, exhibits and videos) and the exhibition room where the collections are displayed. In these showcases, you'll discover a wide variety of figurines and "dioramas" depicting military or civilian themes: the Ancien Régime, the Napoleonic Wars, the First World War... as well as gendarmes, firemen, riders from the Cadre Noir, circus or music-hall performers and cyclists. Located on an ancient Gallo-Roman site, this mill was built at the beginning of the 12th century in the commune of Beuxes. At 500 meters, the spring of Maumont feeds this mill initially equipped with 2 wheels of 2,40 meters of diameter. It ceased all milling activity in 1919. Its current owner, representing the 5th generation, thanks to his energy and his passion, restores to this architecture the character of its beginnings. The first trough wheel has just been installed and gives back to this mill its former soul.

15th-century château, redesigned in the 17th and 19th centuries, situated on a rocky promontory overlooking the Loudun plain in the commune of Roiffé. Still preserved today are the main building with its wooden courtyard, a medieval gatehouse between two towers, and the ruins of the castral chapel near the old fortifications.

René I of Anjou’s "Château of Love " on its "emerald rock", the Château de Saumur played host to kings and prisoners and is one of the greatest and last untouched remnants of princely architecture from the Valois dynasty in the Middle Ages. The château appeared in all its glory in the Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry illumination and has had a turbulent past, narrowly avoiding demolition. The 11th century Romanesque tower was surrounded by four round towers before it was levelled off. Louis I of Anjou decided to transform the château into a palace. In the 15 century, his son, Louis II, made it look how you see it now. King René’s spirit may linger but, for a century after his death, it was left empty until the protestant Duplessis-Mornay moved in in 1589. Dark times came after the governor was forced into exile following Henri IV’s assassination. The château was pillaged by Louis XIII’s soldiers and saved from demolition by Napoleon I who turned it into a state prison. Saumur Council bought it in 1906 to restore it to house the municipal museum, approved by Musée de France, displaying notably Count Charles Lair’s collection. The first floor of the castle houses an exceptional collection of decorative arts including furniture, tapestries and ceramics from the 14th to the 18th century. As an international horse riding capital, Saumur collects harness equipment from Antiquity to the early 20th century. A selection from the Horse collection (saddles, bits, stirrups) is on display in the former abbey.

An original collection devoted to combustion engines of all types, you will observe real works of industrial art, restored by enthusiasts. This museum traces the evolution of the engine since its creation. The exhibits allow a historical, technical and educational approach to the development of mechanical energy. Automotive, airplane and even rocket engines will no longer hold any secrets for you! Be sure to observe the Baltard-style architecture of the building.

Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers is a singular, mysterious and romantic work of art. Throughout its history, it has known sumptuous glory, neglect, bold reconstruction, dramatic fire and astonishing survival. In 2017, the crazy project of enabling as many people as possible to contribute to its rescue was launched by the Dartagnans company and the "Adopt a Castle" network. Today, it belongs to 25,000 people involved in a major project to save it and bring it to life. Varennes sur Loire is a small village built around a rectangular postcard square with tall trees, a church, a war memorial, a bakery, a butcher's shop and a grocer's... You will be staying in part of the tufa stone farmhouse, renovated to retain its original character: old fireplace, beams, wine press, floor tiles... All with modern comforts. On the ground floor, you enter the 22m² living room with a relaxation area, sofa bed, television with DVD player and DVD available, dining area and fitted kitchen. A hallway leads to the shower room with large shower in the old grape press and double washbasin unit. Separate WC. Upstairs is a 10.5m² bedroom (17m² floor area) with a 180x200cm bed (or 2 separate beds if required). The landing also leads to a small room with 2 beds measuring 90x190cm (surface area: 5.85m² at a height of 1m80 and 10.20m² on the floor).
