Camping Le Verseau: Your Greoux-les-bains Adventure

A remarkable family circuit between banks, cliffs, and beaches with beautiful views of protected and landscaped areas. From Saint-Julien beach go on the right (starting post of the trail) climb the few steps and follow the path along the old Verdon canal (yellow and red marking GR® de Pays). Pass the water intake of EDF and the Canal de Provence and walk on the path between the lake and the channel. Pass the stone bridge of the Barade and continue on this path to the end of the canal a little before the tunnel closed by a gate turn left. 1- Go through the opening of the channel turn right and climb on the plateau overlooking the lake. Follow the markings on the cliff (note you are on a Var ENS Sensitive Natural Area) do not go out of the path, until a large pebble track.2- At Poteau Balcon du lac (385 m) - Go down the track to the left to its end, cross the channel and reach the edge of the lake by a path on the left.. Continue to follow the path along the riverbanks past the "Ponton du Lac" and continue to the level of the concrete bridge. Continue along the route of the old canal guard road to the left of it. Follow him to the house of the canal guard (Provence canal property) on the left at the locality of the district. 3- Return either by the track going up on the right (Beacknoning) At the next intersection continue straight and join point (2). Return to departure by the route taken on the way. Otherwise redo the return by the same path.

After strolling through the narrow streets of this typical village of Haute Provence, discover the landscapes and views of the dam and the Verdon valley. From the village square follow the GR®4 (red and white markings) up the alleys to the clock tower. Exit the village to the west and pass a small bridge. 1- Leave the road in a left turn to continue straight ahead past the campsite and follow the stone road which climbs quickly in the pines towards the plateau. 2- Leave the road on the left and continue straight on the GR®4 and follow the direction Gréoux-les-Bains. 3- Turn left the GR® and cross old fields of lavender then continue in the forest. At the first crossroad, turn left. At the second, with a very large pine tree, turn right. Finally on the third, go left (south-west) towards Gréoux-les-Bains and the Verdon. 4- At the edge of the road, turn left, due south and left again until the D952. Cross it and go down to Verdon. 5- Follow the Verdon on the left for 650m, then at the post arrow follow the path on the left until the D952. Cross it then turn right and continue for 350m until the next post pole. 6- Get to the left and climb towards Buffe Arnaud. 7- At the post pole "Buffe Arnaud", continue straight on towards St-Martin-de-Brômes and follow the ridge to point 2. Then take a right and return by the same way to the starting point.

An old village of character on a rocky outcrop rich in its heritage, a 360 ° panorama where Jean Giono liked to walk. From the car park take the stairs and turn right, cross the bridge and take the road that goes to the right of the cooperative cellar "path under the rock".1 - Before the cemetery turn right on the path of donkey paradise. Arrive at the top on a parking lot take the path on the right.2 - and continue along a small path on the left. At the top, turn right towards "chemin du Baou". Walk under the ramparts in the shade of the holm oaks, until the cross.3 - then turn left to arrive in front of the Gourdanne gate. Pass under this one and go up on the left towards "the walk of the belvedere" to pass in front of the Church to make the turn and to go straight down in the village. Pass the Auberge du Montagnier and cross the Gourdanne door then turn right down to the Cross. 3 - just after turn left and follow the path that descends lace Arrive at the place said the Fountain continue to descend.4 -Take the first path on the right to reach a field on the right, cross a bridge across the D69 and continue facing the path of the old mill, straight and then after 200 m turn right through the municipal camp-site at the end again right to the roundabout continue in front of the grocery store, then the post office and return to the departure bridge.

If there is a real gem in the Verdon, it is the Lake Esparron, intimate, wild and heavenly. Exit the car park, go up the steps past the post office and continue to the roundabout and turn right on the Terdobbiate street follow the signs GR® de Pays (yellow and red) to the l'éclou hamlet.. 1- Turn left, cross the hamlet. Walk in the undergrowth and go down again to join a tarred path. 2- Turn right and 150 m further continue along the large dirt track on the left. 3- At the crossing of the tracks, leave the big track that goes straight (barrier) and continue on the right. At the Pole 64 "Gabiane” continue straight following the yellow and red markings4- Follow the track that continues on the right. 5- At the fire hydrant go down to the left for 1.6 km. 6- Continue to descend to the right.7- Get to the SCP house turn right at the post "Le Quartier" pass next to the barrier and continue towards the lake. At the post 20 turn left and follow the old canal by the small path. 8- At the (pole 21 ) turn right and continue to walk on the edge of the creeks, pass the lake pontoon (post 22) and follow the beaches bypassing the lawns always following the yellow and red markings. 9- Cross the old canal and go up by the large track opposite to (post 23, balcony of the lake). 10- Turn right and follow the signs (yellow and red) on the cliffs and do not leave the marked trails. At the end go down to reach the edge of the old canal. 11- At the pole 24, cross the passage in the old canal and continue on the flat path between the lake and the canal and head for Saint Julien beach. 12-At Saint Julien beach turn around and come back by the same road to point (11) "the Balcony of the lake" at this level turn right and go up the old medieval road. Pass the barrier of the E.N.S and get to a platform down the left track and join the point (7 le Quartier). Take the same path for the return to Saint-Pierre.

I love this rich and pleasant stroll throughout the year taking advantage of the landscapes especially in spring with the maximum flowering. From the car park of the tourist office, get on the D82 road and turn right towards the castle and its fountain. Turn right in 100m at the intersection between the roads of La Tuilière and Quinson. 1- Take the right route (Lake Road and Tuilière Road). After 50m on the Chemin de Tuilière, turn left onto the GR discovery trail (red and white markings). The entire climb, on a trail, is common with this special course. Pass in front of the viewpoint of the Tuilière. Cross a small valley and reach, to the top, a crossroads of tracks at a place known as Séouve. 2- At the crossroad turn right (yellow signs) and follow "pont coupé 1.5km" 3- Leave the trail that leads to the relay and take the path on the left, follow the trail. (Careful, the descent to the lake is a bit abrupt!) 4- At the bottom of the road turn right and join the paved road Chemin de Tuiliére, follow it to point 1. Continue on the same route as before.

A Esparron de Verdon, between the lake and hills, discover the history of the village, its castle and the local flora. From the car park of the tourist office, get on the D82 road and turn right towards the castle and its fountain. Reach on 100m the intersection to the right between the roads of the Tuilière and Quinson. 1- Take the right route (Lake Road and Tuilière Road). After 50m on the path of Tuilière, turn left by the discovery trail. The entire climb, on a trail, is common with this special course. Pass in front of the viewpoint of the Tuilière. Cross a small valley and reach, to the top, a crossroads of tracks at a place known as Séouve. 2 - Exit the discovery trail and turn left leaving the track towards Sainte-Magdeleine. Cross the plateau on about 800m. After coming out of the forest, along the fields, go past a small stone cottage and reach the intersection with the Quinson path. 3 - Take a sharp left and go down the path through the hill. Once on the road, follow it to the left for 150m and take the path starting on the right. Go down for another 400m and reach the intersection with the access track to Bastide Neuve. Continue across on the main track and reach the road at 200m. 4 - Turn left and go through it to the village. At about 700m, go past the Sainte-Magdeleine chapel. Continue to the intersection with the Quinson road. Follow the signs towards Esparron to reach the castle and the route taken to go.

At Allemagne-en-Provence, follow the trail of a past rich in knightly history! From the Place du 16 Juin 1944 (square), at the foot of the castle of Allemagne, follow the D952 towards Riez. Immediately after the bridge of the Tartavel valley, take the small path on the right, marked in yellow. 1- Go up by the footpath, under the oaks, amidst the thyme, boxwood and broom. Halfway up, pass at the foot of a column and continue in the woods until the chapel (equipped picnic area). 2- From the top, go back down through Allemagne-en-Provence by a wider path behind the chapel until the Route de Riez. The end of the trail follows the D952 for 500m (watch out for cars, walk to the right of the road!). Go past the old mill village, now converted into a hotel and restaurant. Reach the car park of the starting point.

A nice circuit, amid the scents from lavender, almond and olive groves to reach the chapel of the Trinity. When leaving the car park, turn left, then at the intersection, turn right. At 100m, leave the route de Manosque and follow the paved road of Riou on the left until reaching the exit of the residential area. At 800m after the olive groves, facing a barn, leave the road to go down to the right to the forge valley. 1 - At a small road, at the bottom of the valley, continue straight for 200m. 2 - Turn right and continue straight for about 250m to the picnic area of Holy Trinity. To the right of the source, hidden under the trees, sits the chapel of the seventeenth century. To go back to Valensole, return to point (2) and follow the paved uphill to the left along the farm of Bellencroupe. 3 - At the plateau, turn left. The small road winds among fields of lavender for 2km to the barn of of the starting area. Go into Valensole via the same route used to go.

Since 1922, our mill extracts extra virgin olive oil, a genuine fruit juice, only with mechanical means to olive oil amateurs’ great joy. For more than 40 years we have been making cosmetics and soap made in a cauldron just like Marseille soap. The harvest of olives is done manually with hand and automatic combs to preserve olives quality. Then, we proceed to the grinding of the fruit with a simple mechanical method, without the addition of chemicals or change in temperature. At the end of the grinding, we get an extra virgin olive oil with a free acidity lower than 0.8%. Our mill produces a local extra virgin olive oil. Our olive oil is peppery and refreshing which is specific to the aglandau olives (90%). Nearly 400 olive growers bring their olives to supply you with: - Green fruity olive oil - Local olive oil All our products are available at our shop and online shop: olive oil, homemade products, Marseille soaps… We also make basil, mint and lemon oils. Olive oil sold at the Serres, Orpierre, Sisteron and Laragne tourist offices. We offer visits of our soap factory from April to September by prior arrangement.

Taking the emblematic Blanc Martel trail without taking your car couldn't be easier, thanks to the shuttle bus and the Zou 450 regional line (ex BV1 )from Riez, Roumoules, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Castellane. Shuttle service resumes on 28/04/2023. How does it work? The Zou 450 regional line links Riez to Castellane via the village of La Palud-sur-Verdon. From La Palud-sur-Verdon, the Blanc-Martel shuttle bus takes you to the Chalet de la Maline, the trailhead. The trail ends at Point Sublime (Rougon). For your return journey, take the shuttle bus to the village of La Palud-sur-Verdon and/or the regional line 450 to Riez or Castellane. Timetables... To ensure optimum operation, the timetables of the Riez-Castellane regional line (450) and the Blanc-Martel shuttle are coordinated. Online booking is highly recommended if you want to be sure of getting a seat! Please note that the shuttle does not return to Chalet de la Maline in the afternoon.

August 15, 1944 this bridge was to be bombarded by the English air force, the airmen seeing a colony of children who bathed in the Verdon dropped their bombs in the ravines. The next day they found a destroyed bridge. Resistance members of Greoux had done it for them. In 1950 the state decided to rebuild it in stone as it is today, the formwork of the concrete vault was made with hangers in studded planks it will take 18 months and 7.5 tons of nails.

View of Gréoux les Bains and the castle known as the Templars (but never belonged to them) possesses parts ranging from the 12t to the 17th century. It belonged to the counts of Provence from 1248, then to the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem. It was purchased by the municipality in the early 1980s. It is said that the Templars had decided to build a castle in Greoux for the virtues of its waters, beneficial to the convalescence of wounded knights.

Called "Romantic Oasis of Verdon" by Jean Giono, this spa, nestled in a multifaceted and generous nature at the gates of the Verdon Nature Park, is a great place for your family fun. Gréoux is known since Antiquity under the name of Nymphis Grisélidis, in relation to the hot springs (nymphs are the deities of springs), converted in thermal baths by the Romans. After a long period of neglect, the baths were revived at the end of the 17th century.

Notre-Dame des Œufs is a modest 17th century building nestled in a beautiful setting. This worship place is certainly very ancient. Its name derives from a local custom that women who were sterile or wanted to have a child would come with two eggs on Easter Monday. Once they arrived, they had to swallow one and then leave the other one. On a second pilgrimage, on the following September 8, the second egg had to be intact for the wish to come true ....

Below we can see the Notre-Dame des oeufs easily accessible on foot, it dominates the Verdon. Traditional site of pilgrimage the site offers a pretty point of view on the village and the Verdon lowland.

More typical of wetlands, semi-aquatic mammals such as the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber) are present in the water stream of the Verdon. The beaver, with its nocturnal habits, and sometimes coming out at dusk if it is not disturbed is a discreet animal. Its presence is easily detected due to the many tracks left: fallen and eaten-away trees, tree branch barks, it builds a large hut made of branches with submerged entries. National protection of the species and its habitat.

The narcissus assoanus, also called rush-leaf jonquil is a small spring plant with yellow flowers. This very graceful narcissus is found in quantity in spring, in the sunny rocky lawns of the Mediterranean regions up to 1200 meters. Do not pick them.

The Verdon bank is colonized by a particular and rare flora in Provence, that of wetlands. Willows, poplars represent the majority of the trees present. At the waterfront, a procession of rushes and sedges. At the bottom of the Verdon itself, aquatic plants line it in quieter areas. This vegetation threatened by trampling, shoreline development and deterioration of water quality are some of the current challenges of preserving the natural heritage.

The Saga pedo is probably the largest insect in France, with a full body length from 9 to 11 cm (the oviscapte - organ allowing to lay - is 4 cm). This extraordinary grasshopper has no wings and - very rare for the orthoptera and unique in France- males do not exist. Females reproduce by parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction). The offspring of each female are therefore clones.
