Buffe Arnaud Walk

Le musée conserve le milliaire de Carus. Découvert en 1896 dans le sous-sol d'une habitation ; il s'agit d'une borne cylindrique qui mentionne l'empereur romain Marcus Aurelius Carus (Narbonne ou Milan 230/ ? 283 après J-C) dans un calcaire à grain grossier. Elle est datée du 3e siècle de notre ère. Cette borne jalonnait une des principales voies de circulation romaine la Via Sextiana, reliant Riez-La-Romaine (Ries) à Aix-en-Provence (Aquae Sextiae) en passant par Saint-Martin-de-Brômes.

Le chevreuil est le plus petit des cervidés européens. Le chevreuil apprécie les milieux variés où se mêlent forêts de feuillus et terrains découverts. Il apprécie les lisières et le bocage lui convient bien, ce qui ne l’empêche pas d’être présent aussi dans les zones de cultures. Le chevreuil est un excellent coureur, sauteur et même nageur ! Il est actif surtout le soir et la nuit. Les mâles sont solitaires, les femelles accompagnent leurs faons (1 ou 2, parfois 3) pendant un an.

The common buzzard is very active, often flying in the open, gliding over fields and forests, and also spending long periods hovering high. It feeds on small mammals it chases on the ground, and also birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects. The preys are located by sight, flying at low altitude while making circles, but also at distances of a few hundred meters. We consider that the common buzzard has the sharpest sight of all birds of prey.

The Verdon bank is colonized by a particular and rare flora in Provence, that of wetlands. Willows, poplars represent the majority of the trees present. Plus typique des zones humides, les mammifères semi-aquatiques comme le Castor d’Eurasie (Castor fiber) sont présent dans le cours du Verdon. Le castor, aux mœurs nocturnes, et parfois crépusculaire s’il n’est pas dérangé est un animal discret. Sa présence est facilement détectée grâce aux nombreuses traces qu’il laisse : arbres abattus et rongés, branches écorcées, il construit une grande hutte en branchages ayant des entrées immergées.
