This mountain bike itinerary knits together the northern and southern flanks of the eastern Luberon. A bumpy and demanding course on the tracks of Giono's paths. Jovial and bright! This trail is never too technically difficult nor too physically easy. Alternating between trails, paths and tracks, it has plenty of surprises in store: fragrant undergrowth, majestic views, a pastoral ravine, a hilltop village and even an eco-museum to while some time... Make the most of it! Highlights: local biodiversity, a sulphur spring, the leafy Forêt de Pélissier, panoramic views from the ridges of the eastern Luberon, olive groves.

The tour of Lake Esparron is a country GR® that invites you to slow down to feel and meet the Verdon and its landscapes. The first of the five steps of this roaming from Gréoux-les-Bains, is short and presents no particular technical difficulty if not the climb on the crests of Jas de Laube which allows to join the opposite side the village of Saint -Martin-de-Brômes The 2nd day begins with the crossing of the oppidums celto Liguria and then walk on the hills where splendid views of the dam and Lake Esparron are revealed. The 3rd step, easier than the previous one, allows on the heights to easily reach Esparron-de-Verdon and Quinson. The 4th stage, the longest and most technical, rushes into the lower gorges then goes up the left bank of the Verdon on the plateau of Mallasoque. The route then passes to the hamlets of Bernes and Rouvières, to finally reach the medieval village of Saint-Julien le Montagnier, perched on its rocky peak. The last long step and also physical, returns to the banks of Lake Esparron. The overhanging passage of the banks on the old channel, makes it possible to reach Saint-Julien beach. Then the route goes up on the heights, reaches the chapel Notre Dame des oeufs and finally switches to Gréoux-les-Bains, the end of the trip.

A walk filled with charm and peace during all seasons. At the entrance of the Spa's car park, go down to the right until the Verdon through the Rue des Eaux Chaudes (follow the signs of the GR®4 white and red) and pass a small bridge. 1 - Leave to the left the Babaou path (taken when returning) and continue straight. At the edge of the Verdon go left, through the gate and follow the route of the fitness trail. Go up along the Verdon following the stabilised for about 1.2km / less than a mile. 2 - Having reached the end of the path (gate), take the small road going up to the left (steep portion and some stony passages; we would suggest to the disabled people to return to Gréoux by this same route!). 3 - After 275m, exit the road and the GR®4 to follow the dirt road to the left (Babaou path; yellow marking). Go along a small canal, and pass in front of old dry stone walls and come out at the Spa of Gréoux les Bains, after 1km / less than a mile. After the spa buildings, reach the alley of the starting point and follow it on the right to the car park.

From Gréoux-lès-Bains, this hike reveals beautiful views from the top of the wooded hills and Notre-Dame des Oeufs. From the parking lot of the thermal baths go left on rue des Eaux to the banks of the Verdon. Turn right and just before the bridge, go up a small path on the right and end up on the D8. Cross the bridge of Verdon and immediately after the road turn right. Follow the route by the edge of the Verdon and just before the dam, go left in the direction of the hill (PR). 1- Join the D8, cross the road, and follow the trail in front (hiking trail signs). Climb the trail in the middle of the holm oaks. On the way, avoid a path on the right and continue in front, direction Les Maurras. At the pass, go down the other slope. Cross the logging through the narrowest path, along the pipeline and reach a crossroad. 2 - Turn left towards Maurras. Gradually ascend the red color path (siliceous soil) until reaching a road. Turn left and reach the hamlet of Maurras. Cross it and follow at the exit, on the left, the trail of the "wells of Pellas" then climb towards the antennas. Enter the woods (pine and oak forest) and follow the main road (PR). After a paved section, take the path on the left, leave a cistern and the wells of Pellas on the right and continue to a berm. Continue on the right path into the wooded massif and climb out onto the ridge. Follow the paved road to the pylon. 3- At the foot of the antenna, go down in front of the path to the ubac. The slope is steep! Cross the road down to the pass and continue opposite the path of the chapel Notre-Dame-des-oeufs (PR). 1.5km further, climb right towards the Chapel. Turn around and go back to the crossroad and down the path to the right until you reach the road. Turn right and join the Pont de Gréoux. From there, get back to the parking lot using the same starting road.

After strolling through the narrow streets of this typical village of Haute Provence, discover the landscapes and views of the dam and the Verdon valley. From the village square follow the GR®4 (red and white markings) up the alleys to the clock tower. Exit the village to the west and pass a small bridge. 1- Leave the road in a left turn to continue straight ahead past the campsite and follow the stone road which climbs quickly in the pines towards the plateau. 2- Leave the road on the left and continue straight on the GR®4 and follow the direction Gréoux-les-Bains. 3- Turn left the GR® and cross old fields of lavender then continue in the forest. At the first crossroad, turn left. At the second, with a very large pine tree, turn right. Finally on the third, go left (south-west) towards Gréoux-les-Bains and the Verdon. 4- At the edge of the road, turn left, due south and left again until the D952. Cross it and go down to Verdon. 5- Follow the Verdon on the left for 650m, then at the post arrow follow the path on the left until the D952. Cross it then turn right and continue for 350m until the next post pole. 6- Get to the left and climb towards Buffe Arnaud. 7- At the post pole "Buffe Arnaud", continue straight on towards St-Martin-de-Brômes and follow the ridge to point 2. Then take a right and return by the same way to the starting point.

A nice circuit, amid the scents from lavender, almond and olive groves to reach the chapel of the Trinity. When leaving the car park, turn left, then at the intersection, turn right. At 100m, leave the route de Manosque and follow the paved road of Riou on the left until reaching the exit of the residential area. At 800m after the olive groves, facing a barn, leave the road to go down to the right to the forge valley. 1 - At a small road, at the bottom of the valley, continue straight for 200m. 2 - Turn right and continue straight for about 250m to the picnic area of Holy Trinity. To the right of the source, hidden under the trees, sits the chapel of the seventeenth century. To go back to Valensole, return to point (2) and follow the paved uphill to the left along the farm of Bellencroupe. 3 - At the plateau, turn left. The small road winds among fields of lavender for 2km to the barn of of the starting area. Go into Valensole via the same route used to go.

A remarkable family circuit between banks, cliffs, and beaches with beautiful views of protected and landscaped areas. From Saint-Julien beach go on the right (starting post of the trail) climb the few steps and follow the path along the old Verdon canal (yellow and red marking GR® de Pays). Pass the water intake of EDF and the Canal de Provence and walk on the path between the lake and the channel. Pass the stone bridge of the Barade and continue on this path to the end of the canal a little before the tunnel closed by a gate turn left. 1- Go through the opening of the channel turn right and climb on the plateau overlooking the lake. Follow the markings on the cliff (note you are on a Var ENS Sensitive Natural Area) do not go out of the path, until a large pebble track.2- At Poteau Balcon du lac (385 m) - Go down the track to the left to its end, cross the channel and reach the edge of the lake by a path on the left.. Continue to follow the path along the riverbanks past the "Ponton du Lac" and continue to the level of the concrete bridge. Continue along the route of the old canal guard road to the left of it. Follow him to the house of the canal guard (Provence canal property) on the left at the locality of the district. 3- Return either by the track going up on the right (Beacknoning) At the next intersection continue straight and join point (2). Return to departure by the route taken on the way. Otherwise redo the return by the same path.

At Allemagne-en-Provence, follow the trail of a past rich in knightly history! From the Place du 16 Juin 1944 (square), at the foot of the castle of Allemagne, follow the D952 towards Riez. Immediately after the bridge of the Tartavel valley, take the small path on the right, marked in yellow. 1- Go up by the footpath, under the oaks, amidst the thyme, boxwood and broom. Halfway up, pass at the foot of a column and continue in the woods until the chapel (equipped picnic area). 2- From the top, go back down through Allemagne-en-Provence by a wider path behind the chapel until the Route de Riez. The end of the trail follows the D952 for 500m (watch out for cars, walk to the right of the road!). Go past the old mill village, now converted into a hotel and restaurant. Reach the car park of the starting point.

Since 1922, our mill extracts extra virgin olive oil, a genuine fruit juice, only with mechanical means to olive oil amateurs’ great joy. For more than 40 years we have been making cosmetics and soap made in a cauldron just like Marseille soap. The harvest of olives is done manually with hand and automatic combs to preserve olives quality. Then, we proceed to the grinding of the fruit with a simple mechanical method, without the addition of chemicals or change in temperature. At the end of the grinding, we get an extra virgin olive oil with a free acidity lower than 0.8%. Our mill produces a local extra virgin olive oil. Our olive oil is peppery and refreshing which is specific to the aglandau olives (90%). Nearly 400 olive growers bring their olives to supply you with: - Green fruity olive oil - Local olive oil All our products are available at our shop and online shop: olive oil, homemade products, Marseille soaps… We also make basil, mint and lemon oils. Olive oil sold at the Serres, Orpierre, Sisteron and Laragne tourist offices. We offer visits of our soap factory from April to September by prior arrangement.

Taking the emblematic Blanc Martel trail without taking your car couldn't be easier, thanks to the shuttle bus and the Zou 450 regional line (ex BV1 )from Riez, Roumoules, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Castellane. Shuttle service resumes on 28/04/2023. How does it work? The Zou 450 regional line links Riez to Castellane via the village of La Palud-sur-Verdon. From La Palud-sur-Verdon, the Blanc-Martel shuttle bus takes you to the Chalet de la Maline, the trailhead. The trail ends at Point Sublime (Rougon). For your return journey, take the shuttle bus to the village of La Palud-sur-Verdon and/or the regional line 450 to Riez or Castellane. Timetables... To ensure optimum operation, the timetables of the Riez-Castellane regional line (450) and the Blanc-Martel shuttle are coordinated. Online booking is highly recommended if you want to be sure of getting a seat! Please note that the shuttle does not return to Chalet de la Maline in the afternoon.

Observe the yellow, orange and red-hued ochre deposits that give the village its name and its unique charm. Your tour will end with a visit to the medieval village of Gordes. Its buildings are constructed entirely from shale stone, lending the village an enchanting architectural style and a traditional atmosphere.  At the end of the day, you will driven back to Aix en Provence.

Plague victims were placed in the valley of the Forge in quarantine during the epidemic in 1630. The chapel commemorates this sad time and was built from 1632, at the end of the epidemic. This is a nice stroll for all the residents of Valensole commemorating that date at a rally. On the agenda, blessings, picnics and dances on the small esplanade lined with plane trees.

The common buzzard is very active, often flying in the open, gliding over fields and forests, and also spending long periods hovering high. It feeds on small mammals it chases on the ground, and also birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects. The preys are located by sight, flying at low altitude while making circles, but also at distances of a few hundred meters. We consider that the common buzzard has the sharpest sight of all birds of prey.

Even without being able to name them all, you will spot some of the most common plants that line this tour. The red from the poppies in the fields; on the roadside, the procession of "weeds" such as thistles and wild lettuces; on the hillsides, yellow Scotch brooms (in May and June) and aromatic fragrances from the thyme or the savory. In ecology, habitat diversity partly explains the floristic richness. Someone for everyone, in a way.

The Little Owl is one of those common speciesbecoming less common, due to the extinction of its lodgings, the fragmentation of its habitats, the intensification of agricultural practices (uprooting of hedges, tree holes disappearing little by little, the use of pesticide). As a good indicator species for the ecological quality of agricultural areas, it is subject to regular monitoring as part of a regional observatory in which the Verdon Park is involved.

Called "Romantic Oasis of Verdon" by Jean Giono, this spa, nestled in a multifaceted and generous nature at the gates of the Verdon Nature Park, is a great place for your family fun. Gréoux is known since Antiquity under the name of Nymphis Grisélidis, in relation to the hot springs (nymphs are the deities of springs), converted in thermal baths by the Romans. After a long period of neglect, the baths were revived at the end of the 17th century.

The dam called Gréoux is a hydroelectric project on the Verdon put into operation in 1967 and located halfway between the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Var, in the towns of Esparron-de-Verdon and Saint-Julien le Montagnier. It allows a water reservoir with a volume of 80 million m3 with Esparron Lake. The building belongs to EDF and provides 170 million kWh per year and also feeds the Canal de Provence. It is an earth dam 260m thick at the base, 67m high and 220m long.

August 15, 1944 this bridge was to be bombarded by the English air force, the airmen seeing a colony of children who bathed in the Verdon dropped their bombs in the ravines. The next day they found a destroyed bridge. Resistance members of Greoux had done it for them. In 1950 the state decided to rebuild it in stone as it is today, the formwork of the concrete vault was made with hangers in studded planks it will take 18 months and 7.5 tons of nails.

Located in a strategic position, the Gallic site of Buffe Arnaud borders a road between Laugh, the ancient Alebaece Reiorum and the Lower Provence via the Durance valley. It without doubt belonged to the ethnic group of Reii who was certainly linked to the Salyes confederation. Smaller than most oppidums of the region of Riez, its location, topography and architecture make it look like more a small fort than a small town, more a castellum than an oppidum.

More typical of wetlands, semi-aquatic mammals such as the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber) are present in the water stream of the Verdon. The beaver, with its nocturnal habits, and sometimes coming out at dusk if it is not disturbed is a discreet animal. Its presence is easily detected due to the many tracks left: fallen and eaten-away trees, tree branch barks, it builds a large hut made of branches with submerged entries. National protection of the species and its habitat.

The gîte is part of the heritage of the city of Digne les Bains. The ""Provence Alpes Agglomération"" community manages it under its responsibility for tourism.
