The wine producers of the Coteaux du Lyonnais area have organised information boards relating to their work which consists in maintaining the vines and developing their wine. A trail await you for an outing which promises to be both instructive and fun. You will find information on wine trails in the local tourist information offices (leaflet and information boards only in French).

Circuit through Bois Calane and Bois des Pommes. At the start of the tour, you'll pass by the Polleteins farm (former vestige of the now-defunct Chartreuse de Polleteins) and the Dimanche pond. Nature and heritage walk When you return from the hike, take a break in the Parc du Grand Clos, an unsuspected bubble of nature to recharge your batteries at the foot of the trees, read a book, play hide-and-seek, play ball… Before joining the park, stop off in the centre of the village to discover its heritage. Its history is presented on lava plates: —The very beautiful Romanesque-style church listed. It is dedicated to Saint Mayol, 4th abbot of Cluny, founder of the 10th century of the priory of Saint-Pierre de Ternay. —The terraced gardens of the Château de La Porte adorned with a restored nymphaeum and containing a Gallo-Roman sarcophagus from the 2nd century. Hike in the fresh air during the July 14 festivities while prolonging the evening under the stars in the castle grounds. The 16th-century building and the Saint Mayol church serve as the foreground for the fireworks show.

DETAILED ITINERARY 1 - START - Villette-de-Vienne - From the start sign, turn left onto Rue des Serventières. - At the Villette de Vienne signpost, follow the signs for Chuzelle on the left until you reach Cugnet, then continue left until you reach the Morand signpost. 2 - TOWARDS BONNETIÈRE - Turn right towards Bonnetière. - At the Chemin des Vignes junction, take the path on the left until you reach a road. - Follow the road on the left to the Bonnetière signpost, then continue right to the Taillis de Mure signpost. 3 - TOWARDS MARENNES - Continue straight ahead on the track towards Marennes, cross the D150A and take the track opposite. - When you reach a small road, turn left, pass the Bois des Fauries signpost and continue to the Le Coin signpost. 4 - BOIS DE THOLOMÉ AND LA PLATIÈRE - Turn right towards Bois de Tholomé, pass the signpost and continue towards La Platière. - Pass through the houses, turn left then right at the crossroads. 5 - VILLENEUVE AND ILLINS - In Villeneuve, cross the hamlet in a straight line, then turn right into the cul-de-sac. - At the Illins signpost, continue right towards Villette de Vienne. - Cross the hamlet on the left, then turn right at the chapel. 6 - CHÂTEAU D'ILLINS & RETURN - Follow the road to the château farm on the hillside. - Take the track on the left, pass in front of the Château d'Illins, then descend to the Les Brigands signpost. - Continue to the Cugnet signpost and return to the starting point via the same route.

The GR® de Pays Beaujolais-Bugey par la Dombes links the hills of the Lyonnais to the south of Bugey. It winds its way through the vineyards of Beaujolais, along the towpath of the Saône and through the Dombes region of lakes. The GR® de Pays Beaujolais-Bugey par la Dombes starts from the GR®76 near the village of Sainte-Paule (Rhône) and crosses several lines of hills before joining the Saône. It crosses the Saône to enter the Ain between Anse and St-Bernard. From here, it follows the towpath to Parcieux. It then crosses the Dombes plateau and its ponds. It crosses the Ain at the Chazey bridge, and after skirting the Rhône, climbs up to join the GR®59 in the Bugey mountains.

It is since 1964 the 1st conservation area of France and one of the vastest groups Renaissance of Europe, 24 ha. 427 ha, that is 10 % of the city of Lyon, were classified UNESCO world heritage on December 5th, 1998. Founded by the Romans in the 1st century B.C. as the capital of the Three Gauls, the city has continued to play a major role in Europe's political, cultural and economic development ever since, and is vividly illustrated by its urban fabric and the many fine historic buildings from all periods. In all, 500 hectares have been listed and in particular four districts which superbly represent Lyon's history. Fourvière, the first of the historical sites, gives us a very accurate idea of the ancient world in Lyon thanks to its Gallo-Roman site. Old Lyon is a magnificent mediaeval and Renaissance district. La Croix-Rousse was listed for its industrial heritage, concerned mainly with the silk industry. Finally, the Presqu'île area features an architectural style typical of the 19th century. UNESCO chose Lyon as this is a city which has been faithfully preserved throughout the years. Nothing has been destroyed in these districts.

This aqueduc, which was collecting water from the Gier river in Saint-Chamond, transported it along 86 km to Fourviere. Built in the 2nd century AD, it supplied Lyon with water. Guided tours in English on reservation for groups. Several remains are still visible nowadays, such as in the towns of Brignais and Chaponost. The "Site du Plat de l'Air" (siphon of the Yzeron river), in Chaponost, is the longest section of aqueduct to see in France. 72 arches are still standing. The site is a french classified historical monument (administrative procedure to protect a monument that is interesting from a historical, artistic or achitectural point of view).

Located at the highest point in Francheville, the fort is nestled in the heart of a 10 hectares wooded site. It was built from 1878 to 1881 and is part of the Séré de Rivières system, named after its designer, also known as “Vauban de la Revanche”… The fort was an ammunition compound during the second world war, and was acquired by the town of Francheville in 1979. In 1989 it became a cultural area, with art workshops in the 'Cité des Artistes'. Today it is known as the Contemprary Art Centre. In the park, discover the nature of the area with the nature trails created for the purpose.

These grounds once owned by Lyon's painter Anthelme Bergeron have now been turned into a municipal park. Here you'll be able to stroll or walk and discover the many species of century-old-trees or enjoy a picnic on the banks of the lake.

Its 3000 hectares of undeveloped land, 2200 hectares of natural park, 850 hectares of forest and 600 hectares of protected environment make it one of the largest peri-urban natural parks in Europe. The 350 hectare lake and its beaches offer delightful opportunities for bathing. There are more than 1,000 species of animals and plants represented, including 230 bird species, 25 mammal species, 40 types of dragonfly (studies of bats), and 800 plants (including more than 33 types of wild orchid). The Grand Parc de Miribel Jonage has been given "Lyon Ville equitable and durable" ("Lyon, a town devoted to fair and sustainable practices") approval. A third of the 400 hectares of crops are certified organic, including 6 hectares of hemp. There is also a wide range of sporting activities available at the Grand Parc of Miribel Jonage with marked paths, nature discovery trails, tennis, table tennis, badminton, archery, climbing, trampolining, golf (9 hole course) and a golf practice putting-green! You can also enjoy the rollerblade and mountain bike paths, rope bridges and a 212 m descent above Eaux Bleues Lake. Hire of catamarans, sailing boats, windsurfing and surf boards, canoes, rowing boats, small boats etc. Grand Parc also has riding centres that offer horse-drawn carriage rides in July and August. There is a gym and a sauna. Refreshment stalls and picnic areas are also available. Dogs are allowed in the park if they are kept on a leash.
