Today, many vestiges remain along the paths between Vaunage and Sommierois, including the typical dry-stone constructions known as "capitelles", which have recently been restored. This trail also offers fine views over the Vaunage plain. Itinerary : 1. Go to Calvisson village center, Place Général de Gaulle. Take rue de Plaisance, then turn right onto rue du 8 mai 1945 to reach the D107, which you cross to reach Mazet de Guiraud. 2. Follow Chemin Font de Coucou then Ournèzes then Balcon de la Liquière. 3. At the Fontaine du Coucou, follow the signs for Queyrolles, then turn right to admire the capitelles and views over the plain as far as the Balcon de la Liquière. 4. At the Balcon de la Liquière, you can continue the Balade du Coucou loop, also known as the sentier des capitelles, by turning left towards La Queyrolle (loop) and then back up to the Balcon de La Liquière (+3 km). 5. Follow La Liquière then Grande Place, Puech des Buis, Labadel, Mas de Puech Long, Le Terme Blanc, La Manade, Chantale Basse, Val Claude, Cante-Perdrix, Maupas and Ournèzes. 6. Then direction Chemin Font du Coucou, Mazet de Guiraud and return to Place du Général de Gaulle via Rue du 8 mai 1945 and Rue de Plaisance to Place du Général de Gaulle. A magnificent route through the protected site of the Gorges du Gardon, in the heart of the nature reserve. From the town hall parking lot, follow the Chemin de La Baume (to the left of the bakery) for 1km to the "La Coufine" sign. Continue straight ahead. You are now in the garrigue. Wind your way down through undergrowth to reach the river's edge. In front of you is the old La Baume mill, with the little chapel nestling under the cliff in the background. Turn left up the path to reach the chapel. A path carved into the wall leads to the cave. The cave is open from 15/03 to 30/04 and from 16/08 to 14/11. Once you've crossed the cave, follow the path for 1.1 km up to the plateau above the gorge, towards the "Les Condamines" sign. Turn left and follow the GR6 for 800m to the "les Coufines" sign. Turn right to reach the village of Sanilhac. Be careful, as the Gardon is mainly fed by resurgences in summer, the water is very cold. The risk of hydrocution is very high. For this reason, swimming is prohibited at La Baume (Sanilhac-Sagriès) all year round.

This walk will make you discover the heart of the Gorges du Gardon up to the magnificent and wild site of La Baume. It is the only itinerary that goes along the Gardon. Not recommended in case of recent rains, the banks may be submerged in some places. To park on the parking lot (paying) 2 avenue du Pont du Gard in Collias Take the direction of Pont St Vincent and follow the path on the right which goes up the Gardon, direction "La Baume". Continue straight ahead to find the yellow markings and the signs "Queue du Grand Glas" then "Vallon de la Caille". At about 750m pass a small passage which goes along a big rock. Continue straight ahead to find the ruins of an old mill. Continue straight on for 300m along the river then go up on the right by a narrow path which continues then by a track direction "La Coufine" on 2.2 kms. * At the crossroads, turn right towards "les Condamines" by the GR6-GR63 Then always straight on towards Collias by following the red and white markings to reach the signs "La Grande Terre" (stay on the GR6-GR63 and leave the track which leaves on the left), then "Ménude" and Collias. You arrive in Collias by the path "Vai Aure". At the crossroads, turn left "chemin du Barry". Turn right to take the "Grand rue" which crosses the village to reach the sign "Collias - Le Portalet". Turn left and go up the rue de la République. At the end of the street, turn right into the Avenue du Pont and walk 150m to reach the Parking. * A variant can be proposed to you by taking on the right direction the Chapel St Veredème. It is then possible to join the plateau of garrigue and the GR6-GR63 by a steep path " Les Condamines Sanilhac.

A nice family hike in the shade which offers magnificent panoramas on the surrounding cliffs. You will discover the cave of the hermitage dating from the Neolithic period and the Romanesque chapel of Notre-Dame de Laval dating from the 12th century. From the parking of the market place in Collias, cross the bridge of Collias and pass the Maison du Castor. Turn left at the signpost "Le Grand Devois" and follow the yellow markings. Then, during approximately 600m, you will follow the Gardon on the right bank to arrive at the signpost "le Cantadu". Take the left path (stone cross) towards the Hermitage for 1,7km. You will arrive on the site of the cave of the hermitage and the Romanesque chapel Notre-Dame de Laval.*. Then take the track on the right towards Collias and "Contadu" for 2km. Then continue on the main path following the yellow markings. You will find the path taken at the beginning of the hike. * Possibility of a variant by the big loop (12.2km / 4h15) At the sign "Grand serre" turn left and follow the path for 3.1km (yellow markings). At the signpost "Caunèze" take the path on the left and follow the path for 1.9km. Continue straight ahead. At the signpost "la Torte" go straight on for 3.8km to reach the village of Collias.

Through the garrigue, discover the site of the "vallon d'Escaunes" and the tunnels dug by the Romans for the passage of the aqueduct. From the fortified church of St Bonnet du Gard enjoy the panorama of the Rhone valley and the Mont Ventoux. From the "Chemin du Sablas" parking lot (town hall) in Saint-Bonnet-du-Gard, head towards "la place de la Fontaine". Then cross the D6086 (be careful) to reach "rue de l'Hôtel de Ville" and climb up to the fortified church. Continue straight on, following the red-and-white signs: you'll pass the "Ferraud" and "Sous Ferraud" signposts. Turn left onto the path and follow the yellow markings for 800 m to the "La Draille de Perotte" sign. At the fork in the road, take the left-hand path for 300 m to reach the Roman tunnels. Follow the signs for "Chemin de ronde", "Le Vallon" and "Le Roliss" for 600 m, then go straight on to join the "Chemin de l'Aqueduc". When you reach Sernhac, continue straight on until you reach the "Chemin des cavaliers", then turn right to drive alongside the multi-purpose hall. Follow this path for 900 m, then turn right to reach the "Pied de Vallajouse" sign (yellow markings). Continue straight on for 1.2 km towards Saint-Bonnet-du-Gard. At the intersection, go straight on ("Garrigues Brasses"), then join the D6086. Turn right to find "Place de la Fontaine" (take care when crossing) and the Sablas parking lot.

Charming walk on the paths of the garrigue to discover numerous capitelles (dry stone shelters from the 18th and 19th centuries). At the sign "Mas du code" take the path on the left (sign "circuit des capitelles"). Sporting ascent with ravines. At the signpost "Le code" go straight on for 1.8 km. You pass near the signpost "Chemin de Sares et Prelong" (continue straight on). At the signpost "Côte Malaïgue" take the path to the left and continue straight on for 700m (yellow markings). At the signpost "Mas de la Librotte" turn left to "chemin de la Cabane de Guiraud". Turn left and join the path to discover capitelles, an arboretum and a well. At the signpost "La Librotte", turn left for 800m. Reach the signpost "Aillargues", then turn left to join "le Chemin de Sares et Prelong" (GR63 Chemin Urbain V, red and white markings). Turn right to take back the starting path towards the village of Blauzac.

Religious buildings suffered during the Wars of Religion. The cathedral was destroyed twice and rebuilt on the ruins. There are elements of the 11th-century Romanesque church (frieze, tower, wall sections), 17th-century neo-Gothic architecture and 19th-century renovation. Don't miss the medieval frieze of the first cathedral. September 29, 1567: the story of the Michelade at Saint Castor Cathedral. Catholics were thrown into the well in the bishop's courtyard on the side of the cathedral, and Protestant rioters attacked the cathedral, attempting to destroy the bell tower. The Cathedral underwent two renovations: the first from 1877 to 1882 by architect Henri Revoil, and the second and last in 1904. Of the original 11th-century building, the façade and a bas-relief Old Testament suite remain. It was rebuilt in the 17th century and remodeled internally in the 19th century in the neo-Gothic style. Remarkable 17th-century organs, a Gallo-Roman sarcophagus and paintings by local masters stand side by side. The church was consecrated in 1096 by Pope Urbain II and Raymond IV, Count of Toulouse and Count of Nîmes.

A la demande du roi de France, Louis XV, Jacques Philippe Mareschal (ingénieur du roi, Directeur des fortifications des provinces du Languedoc) en est le concepteur. L’ambition de Mareschal est de mettre en scène la source et les vestiges antiques découverts, dans une composition inspirée des jardins à la Française : avec ses allées symétriques, ses alignements d’arbres, l’ensemble enrichi de balustres, vases, bancs (au centre, la sculpture allégorique représentant Nîmes). Le projet prévoyant plusieurs terrasses ne sera jamais finalisé. Début XIXe, Augustin Cavalier, Maire de Nîmes, met en œuvre l’aménagement de la colline et lui donne son nom. Une végétalisation est effectuée à partir de différentes essences, telles que le pin d’Alep, le chêne vert, le cyprès etc. Des cheminements sont réalisés permettant aux promeneurs de découvrir différentes mises en scène comme la grotte de style rocailleux. Au bout de ces sentiers, un monument remarquable domine le jardin : la Tour Magne. Depuis, de nombreux espaces ont été créés permettant d’enrichir ce lieu, tels que le jardin de rocaille, savant mélange de rochers et de plantes méditerranéennes, le bassin Montgolfier avec ses plantes aquatiques, le jardin de Mazet.
