Circuit de l'Albanais - Cycling circuit

Circuit de l'Albanais - Cycling circuit

A lovely pastoral circuit that takes you over the Pont de l'Abîme. Departure point / TER: Annecy Length: 74 km Difficulty: red Total ascent: 620 m Direction: clockwise Landmarks and connections: Cusy (continuation to Aix-les Bains via route no. 51); Rumilly (possible connections with routes 12, 13, 14 and 15) TER station: Rumilly (with possible return train to Annecy) Please note that the Pont de l'Abime is currently closed until summer 2027. To complete this loop, after Gruffy, follow the signs for Allèves, cross the Chéran at the Pont de Banges, then head back in the direction of Cusy. To reach the famous Pont de l'Abîme, first take the D5 from Annecy (ZI du Vovray, route de Vieugy). You'll then follow the rolling hills of the Semnoz, on the edge of the Massif des Bauges regional nature park, until you cross the Chéran torrent at a height of almost 100 metres, with a view of the Tours Saint-Jacques, astonishing isolated cliffs overlooking the gorge. Pictures to be taken! Past the village of Cusy, you'll have the pleasure of crossing a small, easy pass, the Goléron, before descending rapidly into the heart of the Albanais region. Crossing the national road at St-Félix requires a little caution. The quiet départementale 53 then takes you to the outskirts of Rumilly, home of the Téfal factories since 1961 (with factory outlet!). Once you've reached the Place d'Armes, you'll be directed to Rue du Pont Neuf. But it would be a shame to follow the signs without discovering the town! Turn left into Place de l'Hôtel de Ville with its arcades. From there, stroll with bike in hand through the little streets and squares with their Renaissance facades. You're sure to find a welcoming terrace for a break! You'll return on the D16, known as the Route des Creuses, where you'll need to keep your wits about you until you reach the hairpin bends crossing the stream of the same name. After a second winding valley, at the first roundabout you'll be directed to Annecy via the quiet lanes of the Seynod commune.

Traversée du Clergeon - Cycling circuit
1.9 km

Traversée du Clergeon - Cycling circuit

One of three sports crossings of a beautiful link which lengthens between Aix-les-Bains and Seyssel, with possibility of a small pedestrian ascent in the summit Direction : clockwise. Landmarks and connections: Rumilly (common route from Annecy with the Boucle du Fier n°15 ); Chautagne villages in common with the other two crossings of the triptych; Val-de-Fier (common route with the Boucle du Fier at the exit from the gorges). TER station: Rumilly (allowing you to skip the first 20 km of flat terrain). Description : this Traversée differs from the other two (Chambotte n°12 and Sapenay n°13) from Rumilly, where you follow the Boucle du Fier n°15 for 4 km on the RD31 to the Bauriant bridge. From here, the road gradually climbs via the RD317 and RD231 to the thick Clergeon state forest. The road culminates at 979 m, the highest of the three Traversées. To reach and exceed 1000 m, you can take a short, signposted walk to the Clergeon cross (bring sneakers instead of wedges!). The view from the summit rock over Lac du Bourget, which appears like a Norwegian fjord, is astonishing, while on the other side, behind the Albanais plain, the Aravis massif and Mont-Blanc can be seen as a backdrop. Be careful on the descent! At the halfway point, the gradient exceeds 10% for two kilometers, and this plunge into the Chautagne region takes place in front of a "monster" of mountain bike touring: the Grand Colombier. If this is your next objective, the ascent to Le Clergeon in the opposite direction will be a good preparation! Once you've reached the plain, you'll find the common routes of Traversées de la Chambotte n°12 and Traversées du Sapenay n°13, which you'll follow through the Val-de-Fier gorges, before joining Boucle du Fier n°15 and returning to Annecy.

Tour du Semnoz - Cycling rout

Tour du Semnoz - Cycling rout

This moderately difficult climb begins with a shaded woodland ascent to reach the Col de Leschaux (897m), followed by a descent into the Vallée du Chéran, before finishing along the western side of the Semnoz. A medium-difficulty route, it begins with a shady forest climb to the Col de Leschaux (897 m), followed by a plunge down to the Chéran valley. The route ends on the western flank of the Semnoz. Points of interest This is a great tour that allows you to take a look at the picturesque landscapes and sites in the heart of the Parc des Bauges. Discover the Diable and Abîme bridges, the Prérouge cave and the Chéran gorges. Cycling tip For the panoramic option, calculate the time to climb to the Col de Leschaux before the warm season. Direction of travel: clockwise Landmarks and connections: Sévrier (turn off with the Circuit de Leschaux n°8); Col de Leschaux; Gruffy (turn off with the Circuit de l'Albanais n°11 and Annecy-Aix les Bains n°51). Description: Apart from the road that runs along the Vallée du Chéran, (the only way out of the mountains), Coeur des Bauges is defended on all sides by high ridges, of which Leschaux is the lowest. 12km long with 480m of elevation change (with an average incline of 4%) and an even profile, it is the most popular route for cycling in the Haute Savoie and is perfect for beginners. To reach the foot of the mountain (RD912), leave the Voie Verte at the Port de Sévrier and follow the departmental road n°1508 for 1.5km towards Annecy, which you will reach after making a delicate left turn. Once you cross the ridge and reach the Vallée du Chéran (RD911), look out for a right turn onto the Route d'Allèves, which will take you to Annecy. But beforehand, we recommend that you make the 2km round trip to see the impressive Abîme bridge, it's worth it!

Cycling circuit: Tour du Mont Veyrier
2.1 km

Cycling circuit: Tour du Mont Veyrier

A steep climb at the beginning. Be careful not to miss the right turn during the descent from the Col de Bluffy… …or the superb view of the Château de Menthon! Direction: clockwise Landmarks and connections: Plaine d'Alex cycle path (junction for Tour de la Tournette no. 3, Tour des Glières no. 45 and Croix Fry circuit no. 46). Description: Shorter but considerably more eventful than the Tour du lac d'Annecy, this circuit can be a first step on your way to the red routes. It includes a small pass: the Col de Bluffy. If you're in good form, you can add another to your list of achievements, with a round trip to the tough Col des Contrebandiers (1054 m) at the end of the climb from Annecy-le-Vieux! But let's get back to the start of this climb: you need to follow the signs from the Petit-Port roundabout, as the uphill crossing of Annecy-le-Vieux requires a little attention. The subsequent descent of the Aravis road, on the other hand, is very smooth. Once you're on the flat, take a look at the Pont St-Clair and the Roman road on the other side of the Fier, before turning right just before the Plaine d'Alex cycle path, to set off on the gentle ascent of the Col de Bluffy (only 100 m ascent). But be careful! After just 3 km downhill, look out for the Route de la Corniche on your right. It will save you from the always tricky stretch of the RD909 between Veyrier and Chavoire. Finally, at the end of the return journey, look back at Mont Veyrier and note that you could still reach its summit by a cable car inaugurated in 1934, which departed from Veyrier-du-Lac, and which lifted over 40,000 people a year to the summit in the 1960s. It ceased operating in 1984 and was demolished in 2001.

Cycling loop: Tour de la Tournette

One of the area's great classics, with a beautiful descent between Serraval and St-Ferréol, and an easy return leg along the Annecy Cycleway. Direction: clockwise Landmarks and connections: Annecy-le-Vieux (common route with Tour du mont Veyrier n°2) ; Thônes (separation with Tour des Glières n°45 then Croix Fry circuit n°46) ; Faverges (junction with the greenway, known as the Promenade cyclable ) Description: Up to the Plaine d'Alex, the route is shared with Tour du Mont Veyrier no. 2. When the two routes separate, take the dedicated cycle path to the left of the RD16 to avoid 4 km of departmental road. A little further on, you'll pass the Musée de la Résistance de Morette and its cemetery (Nécropole Nationale des combats en 1944 du plateau des Glières). Once you're in Thônes, turn left before the church, then right at the roundabout onto the RD12, which, after an easy climb up the Col du Marais and a beautiful winding descent from Serraval to St-Ferréol, takes you to the plain and the Lake Annecy cycle path. A word about Thônes, which certainly deserves a break. You'll certainly be surprised by the architectural similarities of its facades and vaulted passageways to Annecy's old town. You should also know that it was in Thônes that Jean-Jacques Rousseau experienced the famous episode of the "cherry idyll" that he recounts in his Confessions: "After dinner [...] we went to finish our dessert with cherries. I'd climb the tree, and throw them bunches, and they'd give me back pits through the branches. On one occasion, Melle Gallay, putting her apron forward and her head back, presented herself so well, and my aim was so accurate, that I knocked a bunch into her bosom, and laughed. I was thinking to myself: aren't my lips cherries! How willingly I'd throw them at them... ".
