Fancy a walk that combines history, culture and nature? Follow us through the streets of Luchon, the "Queen of the Pyrenees", for around fifty surprising discoveries. You will be captivated by the elegance of the built heritage: villas steeped in history, Belle Époque palaces that have hosted illustrious personalities, and buildings emblematic of tourist life (Thermal Baths, Casino, etc.). You will come across magnificent statues, guardians of memory. And nature will not be outdone: let yourself be charmed by the majesty of century-old trees, the tranquillity of parks and gardens, and the beauty of lakes and fountains that punctuate this unforgettable walk.

This is one of the first routes offered during the "La Lapébie" cycle race. The route includes one category 2 pass and two category 1 passes: the Col des Ares (average gradient 3.9%, maximum gradient 11%), the Col de Menté (average gradient 6.6%, maximum gradient 11.4%) and the Col de Portillon (average gradient 6.8%, maximum gradient 8.2%). Take the D125 towards Cierp-Gaud and then Fronsac to tackle the first challenge: the Col des Ares. Then head to Juzet d'Izaut and Sengouagnet and follow the signs for the Col de Menté. The descent takes you to Saint-Béat-Lez, where you head towards Spain to reach Bossost. You then tackle the last challenge of the day: the Col du Portillon. Each bend in this climb honours one of the Spanish winners of the Tour de France, until you reach the monument listing all their victories. The view is well worth a stop to take in the scenery.

This challenging climb through the forest will take you to a splendid viewpoint. Start behind Place Gabriel Rouy (market), on Chemin de Superbagnères. The trail starts on the left, then turns right before tackling the steep climb. You'll come out of the forest under the Renards ski lift, then reach the plateau (3 hours one way).

Discover the Granges de Gourron, nestled in the mountains not far from Superbagnères. Discover one of three routes to this resort with its exceptional views, on a plateau at an altitude of 1,800 metres. Starting from Rue Laity, you will arrive at the Houga meadow and then the barns of Gourron. The track leads you to Lake Arbesquens at the bottom of the slopes of the Luchon-Superbagnères resort. Continue along the slopes to reach the plateau.

Trail accessible in winter. This balcony trail offers an original way to see Luchon. There are some lovely views. Start from the Chemin de Superbagnères behind Place Gabriel Rouy (market). Take the path to the left, passing the Palo deth Mailh spring and under the cable car line. Here, you enter the Bosquet des Thermes to reach the Parc des Thermes.

Trail accessible in winter. If you don't have much time but want to go hiking, head for Cazarilh. This superb promontory offers views of Luchon and the trail runs through the shade of the forest, making it ideal for a late afternoon walk. From Cazarilh, you can continue to the Tour de Castel-Blancat and the GRP Oueil-Larboust. The trail starts on Avenue Cours de la Casseyde, to the right of cemetery no. 1. The path climbs steeply at first, then winds its way down to the village of Cazarilh. The return journey is through the forest, ending up opposite the SNCF train station. One of the most beautiful views of Luchon, without taking the car!

Discover a wild and panoramic mountain bike route linking the Barèges and Portillon passes. Between aerial ridges, ancient beech forests and breathtaking views of the Pyrenees, this route offers a concentrate of adventure and nature. Ideal for demanding mountain bikers in search of memorable landscapes and authentic experiences.

Trail accessible in winter. A Nepalese bridge 50 metres above the torrent at the gates of Luchon! The footbridge, inaugurated in 2017, replaces the one destroyed by the floods of 2013 and connects the two banks along its 35 metres. The footbridge spans the Pique, which emerges at this point from the Marie-Louise chasm 50 metres above the gorges. Start behind the thermal baths (trail no. 52), cross the Superbagnères road, approach the Castel-Ielh tower and descend to reach the footbridge.

Reserved for climbers or at least climbing enthusiasts... This climb alternates between steep sections and false flats. Be careful on the last kilometre, though, you'll need to keep some energy in the tank! Head towards the southern exit of Luchon and take the D 125, which will take you to the Luchon-Superbagnères resort.

It is in these Pyrenean passes that the most famous battles of the Tour de France have taken place. Ascent of the Col de Peyresourde, 1st category, average 6.1%, maximum 11.7%. The Aspin Col, 1st category, average 6.5%, maximum 8%. The Col du Tourmalet, 1st category, average gradient 7.4%, maximum gradient 10%. And finally, the Cols de Soulor/Aubisque, 1st category, average gradient 4.1%, maximum gradient 8.5%. From Luchon station, turn left and head towards the Col de Peyresourde. Descend to Arreau to tackle the next pass: the Col d'Aspin. Once you have climbed this, you will reach the village of Sainte Marie de Campan, where you will climb the Col du Tourmalet. There is a long descent to Argelès-Gazost. Turn left to climb the Col du Soulor and then the Col de l'Aubisque. Descend to Laruns, then reach Pau via Sevignac and Gan.

The itinerary is adapted for all levels, from 3 to 83 years! An activity leader will be present to take care of the little kids while the bigger ones take on the via ferrata course accompanied by expert mountain guides. The itinerary is fully secure and all equipment adheres to strict safety regulations. You will be provided with everything you need: harness, helmet, ropes and carabiners. At the end of your activity, tea and coffee will be served in a traditional shepherd's hut. All participants, young and old, will be presented with an Ardour climbing certificate, as well as photos and a personalized film of the day's highlights.

Situated in the Larboust valley, a beautiful glacial valley, the Espingo refuge is halfway between the Val d'Astau, one of the last bastions of mountain pastoralism, and the high peaks of the Luchonnais (highest concentration of Pyrenean 3000s). Refuge on the edge of Lac d'Oô. After around 1 hour's walk, you'll reach one of the most beautiful sites in Occitanie, with its majestic 275m waterfall. Lac d'Oô is a natural glacial lake in the Pyrenees at an altitude of 1505m. It was raised by 10m by a dam in 1921 and now covers 42ha with a depth of 67m and a capacity of 15 million m3. Tapped by a gallery, it supplies the Oô hydroelectric power station in Luchon. Its name is particularly well known to cruciverbists. A popular destination for Pyrenean hikers, one of the attractions is its 275m-high waterfall. The trail continues beyond the lake to the Espingo and Saussat lakes, and then higher up to the Portillon lake. Accommodation (half-board) by prior arrangement.
