Nature and heritage walk When you return from the hike, take a break in the Parc du Grand Clos, an unsuspected bubble of nature to recharge your batteries at the foot of the trees, read a book, play hide-and-seek, play ball… Before joining the park, stop off in the centre of the village to discover its heritage. Its history is presented on lava plates: —The very beautiful Romanesque-style church listed. It is dedicated to Saint Mayol, 4th abbot of Cluny, founder of the 10th century of the priory of Saint-Pierre de Ternay. —The terraced gardens of the Château de La Porte adorned with a restored nymphaeum and containing a Gallo-Roman sarcophagus from the 2nd century. Hike in the fresh air during the July 14 festivities while prolonging the evening under the stars in the castle grounds. The 16th-century building and the Saint Mayol church serve as the foreground for the fireworks show.

Circuit that lets you discover the château and medieval chapel of Illins, as well as the "Colombier" pear brandy distillery, while offering views of the Alps and Mont Blanc. From the "Villette de Vienne" starting sign, turn left into Rue des Serventières. At the post "Villette de Vienne", follow Chuzelle on the left to reach "Cugnet" and continue left until the "Morand" post. Turn right towards "Bonnetière". At the crossroads of Chemin des Vignes, take the path on the left. Follow it until you reach a road and follow it to the left until you reach the "Bonnetière" sign. From there, follow right until the "Taillis de Mure" post. Continue opposite on the trail to "Marennes", cross the D150A. Take the track in front of you to reach a small road, turn left, pass the "Bois des Fauries" post and continue to the "Le coin" post. From there, turn right towards "Bois de Tholomé". Pass the post and continue towards "La Platière". When you reach the houses, turn left then right at the crossroads. When you arrive at Villeneuve, go straight through the hamlet and turn right into the dead end. At the "Illins" post, turn right towards Villette de Vienne. Pass through the hamlet on the left then, at the chapel, turn right. Pass through the village and stay on the road until you reach the château farm up on the heights. From there, continue left on the trail past Château d'Illins before descending to the "Les Brigands" post. Continue until the "Cugnet" post and return to the starting point, by the outward journey route.

427 ha, that is 10 % of the city of Lyon, were classified UNESCO world heritage on December 5th, 1998. Founded by the Romans in the 1st century B.C. as the capital of the Three Gauls, the city has continued to play a major role in Europe's political, cultural and economic development ever since, and is vividly illustrated by its urban fabric and the many fine historic buildings from all periods. In all, 500 hectares have been listed and in particular four districts which superbly represent Lyon's history. Fourvière, the first of the historical sites, gives us a very accurate idea of the ancient world in Lyon thanks to its Gallo-Roman site. Old Lyon is a magnificent mediaeval and Renaissance district. La Croix-Rousse was listed for its industrial heritage, concerned mainly with the silk industry. Finally, the Presqu'île area features an architectural style typical of the 19th century. UNESCO chose Lyon as this is a city which has been faithfully preserved throughout the years. Nothing has been destroyed in these districts.

It is since 1964 the 1st conservation area of France and one of the vastest groups Renaissance of Europe, 24 ha. At the foot of the slopes of the hill of Fourvière since V °, there is of medieval period an archaeological garden towards the cathedral. During the Renaissance, its peak, neighborhoods are organized around three religious buildings: in the south, Saint George with the craftsmen; central location, Saint John, area of the upper clergy and aristocracy; in the north, Saint Paul district of the "bourgeoisie", financial and commercial center. Large families of Italian bankers and merchants have established themselves, by building sumptuous residences. In 1960, the Old Lyon was in a sad state. Many buildings were threatened and urban projects planned destruction and mutilation. With its 30 exhibition rooms, the Lyon history museum invites you to discover the key stages in the city's history. Drawing on the 80,000 items in its collection, for anyone keen to discover Lyon, this is a place to begin your exploration of the city. Located in the heart of Vieux-Lyon, the Gadagne ensemble is a magnificent Renaissance structure that houses two major museums: the museum of the history of Lyon and the museum of puppets of the world. Thanks to an approach that presents the overall picture, from the capital of the Gauls to the 21st century, the museum of the history of Lyon is a resource that encompasses the city and all its facets. The visit starts with the "musée de l'oeuvre" that evokes the history of the setting: the Gadagne buildings, the largest Renaissance ensemble. The visitor then travels back through Lyon's history: Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. A presentation of the landmarks in Lyon's territorial and urban development enable an understanding of changes and specific features in the city's economic, social, religious and cultural landscape. Free audioguides and multimedia devices complement the visit and explain different aspects of the collections presented. Young or old, come and wake up the puppeteer who lies in you! The puppets? An art! The only museum in France devoted to this living art, the museum invites you to discover the mysteries of puppetry! From Guignol to Kermitterrand of the Bébête show, how do these objects come to life in the hands and imagination of puppeteers? Around a new selection of forty puppets, immersive scenography alternates discovery and experimentation. The visitor discovers, listens, remembers, manipulates. The new path of the Puppet Arts Museum is designed for an audience of all ages and to bring dialogue between generations.

Its 3000 hectares of undeveloped land, 2200 hectares of natural park, 850 hectares of forest and 600 hectares of protected environment make it one of the largest peri-urban natural parks in Europe. The 350 hectare lake and its beaches offer delightful opportunities for bathing. There are more than 1,000 species of animals and plants represented, including 230 bird species, 25 mammal species, 40 types of dragonfly (studies of bats), and 800 plants (including more than 33 types of wild orchid). The Grand Parc de Miribel Jonage has been given "Lyon Ville equitable and durable" ("Lyon, a town devoted to fair and sustainable practices") approval. A third of the 400 hectares of crops are certified organic, including 6 hectares of hemp. There is also a wide range of sporting activities available at the Grand Parc of Miribel Jonage with marked paths, nature discovery trails, tennis, table tennis, badminton, archery, climbing, trampolining, golf (9 hole course) and a golf practice putting-green! You can also enjoy the rollerblade and mountain bike paths, rope bridges and a 212 m descent above Eaux Bleues Lake. Hire of catamarans, sailing boats, windsurfing and surf boards, canoes, rowing boats, small boats etc. Grand Parc also has riding centres that offer horse-drawn carriage rides in July and August. There is a gym and a sauna. Refreshment stalls and picnic areas are also available. Dogs are allowed in the park if they are kept on a leash.

This aqueduc, which was collecting water from the Gier river in Saint-Chamond, transported it along 86 km to Fourviere. Built in the 2nd century AD, it supplied Lyon with water. Guided tours in English on reservation for groups. Several remains are still visible nowadays, such as in the towns of Brignais and Chaponost. The "Site du Plat de l'Air" (siphon of the Yzeron river), in Chaponost, is the longest section of aqueduct to see in France. 72 arches are still standing. The site is a french classified historical monument (administrative procedure to protect a monument that is interesting from a historical, artistic or achitectural point of view).

Located at the highest point in Francheville, the fort is nestled in the heart of a 10 hectares wooded site. It was built from 1878 to 1881 and is part of the Séré de Rivières system, named after its designer, also known as “Vauban de la Revanche”… The fort was an ammunition compound during the second world war, and was acquired by the town of Francheville in 1979. In 1989 it became a cultural area, with art workshops in the 'Cité des Artistes'. Today it is known as the Contemprary Art Centre. In the park, discover the nature of the area with the nature trails created for the purpose.

These grounds once owned by Lyon's painter Anthelme Bergeron have now been turned into a municipal park. Here you'll be able to stroll or walk and discover the many species of century-old-trees or enjoy a picnic on the banks of the lake.
