Lacapelle Sainte-Lucie circuit

From the hills of Mouzieys-Panens, the northern profile of Cordes commands attention: the medieval city stretches out like a sleeping dragon above the Cérou Valley, imprinting its presence on the walker who eagerly awaits the moment when the city's silhouette will reappear around a bend. Departure from Place Saint-Félix. Take Rue des Tanneries towards the Théâtre du Colombier and the bioclimatic primary school. After about 250 meters, join the old railway track on your left. When you reach the road, turn right towards Mas de Tulle. You will now follow the GR® 36 (white and red) for 2 km. At the fork, leave the GR® 36 and take a path on your left that will lead you to a small paved road. Turn left and join the D30 road. Pass the Cantarrane-Le-Haut lake and the bridge, then follow the path that ascends to Mouzieys-Panens. Cross the village, and at the Calvary, turn left towards "La Védillerie." Continue on the road until you reach the hamlet of Lacapelle-Sainte-Lucie. At the crossroads, continue left along a path that leads to the old Sainte-Lucie Chapel (private property). Go back up the road to the right. Behind the Camp de Besset house, turn left. Follow the path through the woods until you reach the road. Turn left (the route is shared with the GRP® Cordes-Penne). Téroundel path (Sentier du Téroundel)

A peaceful walk along the hillside with a beautiful viewpoint opening up to the Cérou valley and the city of Cordes. The oaks lining the path provide light and pleasant shade. The walk starts in front of the castle entrance, heading into the countryside along the beautiful tree-lined avenue recently named "Lice des créneaux." You will see several dovecotes, including the one on the right at the large farm "La Peyrière." Continue straight on the path through the fields. At the end of the path, before turning right onto the Chemin des Plaideurs, move towards the left to discover a beautiful white stone cross hidden in the embankment. Descend the Chemin des Plaideurs and take the small hillside path to the right, which overlooks a private agricultural path. A bit further on, follow this agricultural path for 40 meters. Then, turn left onto the small path that descends to the bottom of the hill. Along your route, you will pass an olive grove and catch glimpses of the striking profile of Cordes-sur-Ciel through the trees. This relatively flat and shaded area offers you the chance to take a break before starting the return journey to the village. Follow the small path that climbs halfway up the slope. You will come across numerous installations for olive cultivation. In the distance, you will see the Château de Mouzieys and the arched bridge. This rather unique bridge was built 150 years ago to support the new road between Cordes-sur-Ciel and Mouzieys-Panens. When you reach the road, if you wish to finish your circuit directly, continue straight and then turn left at the intersection to return to your starting point in front of the castle. Discovery detour: from point 4, turn right to take the road towards Térondel, then the small path to admire the magnificent panorama of Cordes and the Cérou valley at the southern end of the plateau (about 1 km - 15 min round trip). Returning on your steps, continue a few meters towards the village, then turn left to arrive below the castle. There you will find the Thouron washhouse. Its three clear water basins will allow you to refresh yourself before returning to the starting point via the stony path that runs along the castle

The museum is recognised internationally for the works of this artist from Albi. TOULOUSE-LAUTREC, A UNIQUE COLLECTION IN THE WORLD The world’s most important public collection of the works of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, including 31 posters by the lithograph painter, is to be found in Albi. There are also no fewer than 219 paintings, 563 drawings and 183 lithographs displayed in the museum. Early works, major portraits, paintings of brothels, prints from the world of entertainment, advertisements and later works are presented there, giving this museum an exceptional collection. Each stage of the production is represented, highlighting his gift for observation, his talent as a draughtsman and his quality for capturing significant detail. The route around the museum is enriched with information panels. To visit the museum is to meet the man, this native of Albi, of whom this city is so proud. The first rooms are devoted to his early works representing his family, his friends and his favourite theme: animals. Gradually the visitor is taken into the Parisian world: the brothels, especially the world of entertainment and the circus. Room after room, we follow the evolution of this unusual artist.

Puech Mignon Church

Puech Mignon, founded in 972, was destroyed and rebuilt several times between the 14th and 16th centuries. After suffering severe fire damage in 1821, the church has been undergoing restoration since 1999, including the renovation of its altarpiece. Listed as a Historic Monument, it is open to visitors by appointment. Puech Mignon's time The High Middle Ages Puech Mignon made its first appearance around 972, in the will of a high personality of the southern nobility, Garsinde, widow of Raymond, dit Pons, count of Toulouse. This controversial text clearly reflects, however, the existence of a dense and ancient parish and monastic fabric in this portion of the Aveyron valley. The Benedictine monks of Varen, beneficiaries of this pious donation and themselves dependent on the abbey of Saint-Géraud d'Aurillac, founded a rural priory there which depended on their deanery until its secularization in 1561. The time of wars and reconstructions The Hundred Years War and the Wars of Religion hold their share of destruction ... and reconstruction. The decade 1380 ends with the capture of Laguépie by the men in arms in the service of the English and the repurchase of Puech Mignon (1382), that is to say the payment of a real war tax, to dislodge them . The visitors sent in 1419 on behalf of the bishop of Rodez could collect only from the dean of Varen two books for Puech Mignon. The lords of the place, Lautrec well established in the surroundings from the twelfth century and Puech Mignon in the fourteenth, rebuild the castle and perhaps the church after 1460. From this time probably dates the north side chapel, traditionally designated as stately chapel. Despite this, the bishop estimated in 1495 that reconstruction was necessary. In 1561, new havoc. Cardinal d'Ossat, dean of the Varen chapter, in 1603 allocated a sum of 60 pounds to repair the vaults of the nave. With the resurgence of plague epidemics, Saint Roch experienced an increase in devotion. A chapel, that of Lautrec, has been dedicated to it at least since 1635. From the 18th to the 21st century In the 18th century, the work had to be taken over by the parish priest. However, the serious fire of February 19, 1821 necessitated a complete redevelopment. Overshadowed by its parochial title, the church of Puech Mignon, from the early 1870s, lost even its liturgical furnishings, which the locals strived to reconstruct. In the meantime, it had acquired the superb tabernacle which constitutes its most prestigious ornament. Listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments in 1997, it has been the subject of a restoration campaign since 1999. Many rich and exceptional decorations compose it. The restoration of the altar and the altarpiece was done by Françoise Vorms, established in Mas-Grenier. she is a restorer of golden and polychrome woods, graduated from the Boule school in Paris. The altarpiece was in very poor condition, it stayed a year and a half in her workshop, and after a lot of worries, she did a magnificent job by repairing the joinery and restoring the altarpiece and gold leaf. Château de Mayragues, Monument Historique

The Château de Mayragues (12th - 17th century) and its pigeon loft built on 4 columns, both listed as Historic Buildings, surrounded by its bio-dynamic vineyard, sit proudly in the midst of the magnificent rolling countryside of the Bastides Albigeoises. The Château de Mayragues is one of the few remaining examples of the regional fortified architecture with a half-timbered, overhanging gallery surrounding the top of the château built of the light-coloured local limestone. The splendid pigeon loft sitting on 4 stone columns, typical of the Languedoc region, the formal box parterre, the vineyard ( cultivated in bio-dynamics since 1999), the surrounding woods and fields of sunflowers and corn, make an ideal setting for the summer concerts which have been performed in front of the château for the last 20 years. The château and the pigeon loft have undergone an extensive 35 year restoration programme using traditional meterials of stone, wood, lime and sand, and in 1998, during the course of the restoration, were awarded the Grand Prix of the Vieilles Maisons Françaises. The half-timbered gallery provides a unique setting for the guest B&B bedrooms and an extensive view over the garden and the surrounding countryside. Visiting the winery, tasting the bio-dynamic wines of the domain, or simply relaxing in the garden are the ideal complement to discovering the treasures of the Bastides Albigeoises.
