The road is a dead-end, so you will see very few cars on this climb above Lake Annecy, opposite the Tournette. The start can be reached via the Annecy greenway.

This route starts along a way of the cross marked by colourful bas-reliefs depicting the life of Christ. Leave the route for a moment to visit the shrine and cave at Notre Dame du Lac, overlooking Duingt and the Château de Ruphy. In the Middle Ages the peninsula on which the Château de Ruphy was built was actually an island. The view opens out to take in the whole of Lake Annecy, the second biggest natural lake in France, after Lake Bourget. One of the cleanest lakes in the world, Lake Annecy was formed around 18,000 years ago when the great Alpine glaciers melted. It is fed by several small rivers running off the surrounding mountains, and flows into the River Thiou and the Canal du Vassé, both of which flow through Annecy.The Château at Duingt marks the boundary between the “large lake” to the north and the “small lake” to the south. Inhabited by the same family since the 11th century and built between the 12th and 20th centuries, it still contains its rich variety of furniture and period decoration. Nestled on a rocky outcrop, it offers a sublime view of the lake and the landscape. In the 12th century, the castle had only three high square towers linked by sentry walks and a large courtyard where the villagers found refuge in times of trouble. During the Renaissance, the austere castle was transformed into a place of residence. Then, at the end of the 18th century, a facade was built, opening up a view of the lake. Then, at the end of the 19th century, under the impetus of the great-grandfather of the current owners, René de Menthon, the castle began its great metamorphosis towards that romantic subtlety which makes up its charm and even its mystery...

The Bout du Lac nature reserve is a rare, unspoilt area on the shores of Lake Annecy, inviting you to discover a protected natural area. The site is accessible to the mobility-impaired and hearing-impaired. The Bout du Lac nature reserve is a wetland area crossed by two rivers, the Eau Morte and the Ire, which feed Lake Annecy. This marshy area to the south of the lake is an exceptional habitat. Wet forests, reedbeds, wet meadows and alkaline peat bogs make up this ecosystem, offering a diversity that is conducive to the establishment of a large number of common, rare or sensitive animal and plant species. The site's major interest lies in the presence of the underwater herbarium, which supports the development of a fauna of invertebrates and fish, and also in the reed bed, which is a refuge for the common toad, a protected area for the European beaver and for the reptiles of Haute-Savoie. Breeding birds such as the reed bunting, spotted locustella and three warblers can be found in the higher parts of the reedbed. The bittern sometimes completes this list. Wintering birds (tufted duck, common pochard and ruddy duck) spend the cold season here in good conditions. Next on the list are the willow and alder thickets, the pedunculate oak woodlands, the arable and hay meadows and the gallery forests along the watercourses. The remarkable diversity of these biotopes supports a remarkable flora. Protected species include gentian pneumonanthe, snake's tongue, water ragwort, sweet-smelling orchid and Swiss woodruff.
