Camping Les Arolles: Discover Chamonix-Mont-Blanc

A waterfall near the entrance of the Mont-Blanc tunnel. In a lovely green setting, this is the last in a series of waterfalls whose swirling, sparkling waters are one of nature's wonders. From the Grepon car park in Chamonix, on your right take Chemin la Fabrique de Sonnettes, which runs alongside Route Blanche. Cross the bridge over the mountain stream and head up to Les Molliasses. Continue past the forest track on your left. Turn right up to the road leading to the tunnel. Follow it for about 50 metres, then turn left to take a shortcut over a short distance. Continue upwards through the trees, ignoring the path from les Pelerins to your right. Others itineraries are available from Les Pélerins or on the road leading to Tunnel du Mont-Blanc. A very pleasant walk through the cool of the woods at first, then above the tree line with magnificent views of the glaciers, the Aiguilles de Chamonix, Mont Blanc and the Grand Balcon Nord. From point I, go to the start by crossing the Grépon parking lot in the direction of the jumping board. Take the path on the right and follow it through the forest or corridor until you reach the forest track coming from Molliasses. Cross it under the cables of the cable car while going up in front of it, then leave on the left the path of the Pré du Rocher. Continue in the forest by the Plan du Trois. Continue above between big boulders until the refuge. Refreshment bar near the cable car. Private refuge : dormitories - restaurant at the arrival. Possibility to go back down by cable car. Other departure possible from Les Pèlerins. This hike allows you to walk to the Grand Balcon Nord and to reach the Montenvers - Mer de Glace site from the Plan de l'Aiguille (about 2h30). From here you can go down to Chamonix with the cramaillière train. Ascent 2h From the Grépon parking lot at the foot of the Aiguille du Midi, follow the signs for Pré du Rocher to reach the mountain pasture where the chalets of Blaitière-Dessous (1708m) are located. Scenic viewpoint over the Mont Blanc Massif at the edge of the Aiguilles Rouges and Carlaveyron Nature Reserves. From the Route des Moussoux, take the Montée des Moëntieux to the Petit Balcon Sud, cross it and continue on a winding path through undergrowth to the junction with the path from Bois Prin and Les Bossons. Turn right, first into the forest, then through an avalanche corridor to Plan-Lachat (ruins) (1,576 m) 1 h 30. Follow the path into the clearing, leaving the sentier des Gardes on the right, cross a small forest and continue past a large bell tower over the vegetation on a number of switchbacks to Bel-Lachat. View of the Glacier des Bossons. Very pleasant ascent through the undergrowth near the torrents. Easy access. Starting point Route du Téléski aux pèlerins d'en haut. Cross the large footbridge over the Creuse, through the forest to the paved Songenaz road. Go up to the forest path on the left. Continue up a few hairpin bends in the undergrowth. Reach the glacial moraine and the Chalet du Cerro. Other routes are possible from Chamonix, the Cascade du Dard, or Les Bossons. It is difficult to cycle this pass without glancing over your shoulder to take in the views of the Aiguille du Tour, the Chardonnet, the Aiguille Verte and the Aiguilles de Chamonix. Gradient: 3.5%

Green and flowery plateau. Panoramic balcony facing Mont-Blanc. Departure area for free flight and paragliding. Take the path to the left of the gondola and follow it along the parking lot, then leave the path to the left leading to the Pierre à Ruskin. Take the forest track passing under the cables of the cable car. Shortly after, turn left onto the path that crosses a fairly dense forest, but offers pleasant views of the valley. Cross the Petit Balcon Sud. We quickly reach the Plan des Chablettes where some ruins of a creamery remain. Then continue to climb following the signs for Planpraz - Altitude 2000. Halfway between Chamonix and Montenvers, let yourself be transported to the small chalet of Caillet on the historic path leading to the Mer de Glace. From the Biollay parking lot, just a few steps from the Montenvers station, head up towards the Planards business park. Take the 4x4 track. At the intersection, turn right towards Montenvers via Caillet. Continue along the path through the woods, crossing the railroad line. After a few hairpin bends and a traverse, you'll reach Chalet de Caillet (1590 m) in around 1h30. Other routes from Les Bois to Les Praz de Chamonix. Cross the bridge after the mer de glace campsite. Park your car. Cross the bridge and continue on your left. Pass the farms and take the forest path on your right. After 3 bends, cross the 4X4 track and continue along the path to the chalet. Allow 1h30 for the walk. From the Mer de Glace: take the path that starts behind the Hôtel du Montenvers. It takes 1 hour to reach the chalet. For a breathtaking view, take the cable car up to the Aiguille du Midi. On the way back, stop at the Plan de l'Aiguille, cross the Balcon Nord, climb to the Signal, then descend to the Hôtel du Montenvers and rejoin us for lunch or a short break. Allow a good half-day.

Le Dard is a superb waterfall towering 20 meters high at an altitude of 1,233 meters. It offers a beautiful viewpoint about 45 minutes from the centre of Chamonix. View over the Aiguilles Rouges range, the Les Bossons glacier and Mont-Blanc. From Le Grepon car park in Chamonix, turn right on the "Chemin à Batioret » path that leads to the Fabrique des Sonnettes Devouassoud bell workshop by Route Blanche. Cross the footbridge over the torrent and climb up towards Les Molliasses. Ignore the forest track on the left, and turn right as far as the Tunnel access road. Follow it for 50 meters or so then head left along the short cut for a short distance. Continue uphill through the woods, ignoring the path on the right that comes from Les Pélerins. Take the footbridge over the Dard stream and carry on up to the chalet.

Located at the bottom of the Valley, Lac Gaillands is just a few miles from Chamonix and the ideal place for a little family walk as you contemplate Mont Blanc and Bossons glacier. A small but splendid body of water, Lac Bleu enchants hikers who are fond of mountain lakes and also impresses visitors who stop off at the Plan de l'Aiguille on their way up to the Aiguille du Midi. An easy trail that starts from the arrival point of the Plan de l'Aiguille cable car (about 15 minutes), Lac Bleu is set in a beautiful verdant landscape enhanced by the rocks and crystal-clear waters. A natural site, the glacier descends in a direct line from the summit of Mont Blanc (4807), the highest Alpine peak, by a cascade of ice in levels up to the altitude of 1180 meters, the lowest in the Alps for the terminal tongue of a glacier. The vertical drop of 3670 meters is the largest in the world, for a glacier descending in one piece from the top of the summit to its base. Numerous viewpoints allow to admire the color and the purity of the ice, the lateral moraines, the seracs and sometimes the serac falls.

Come and watch the mountain animals roam freely in this animal park in a magical setting, at an altitude of 1500m, just opposite Mont-Blanc. RESERVATION ESSENTIAL RESERVATION REQUIRED WALK UP TO MERLET : From Les Houches or the Balcon Sud, let yourself be tempted by the ascent to Parc de Merlet on foot. The aim is simple: signs placed halfway up the Balcon Sud and the ascent from Les Houches station via Christ-Roi will present you with a code to memorize, which will change regularly, and will enable brave customers who decide to climb on foot to benefit from a discount at the Park entrance (on pronunciation of the code when purchasing the ticket). IN JULY AND AUGUST, TAKE THE SHUTTLE, FREE OF CHARGE: The 4 parking lots have around 150 spaces, but are quickly saturated in July and August! Parc de Merlet offers you a return shuttle service, so you don't have to worry about the 6 km climb, manoeuvring or parking! Leave your vehicle in the parking spaces provided at the Les Houches SNCF station and follow the sign to the shuttle departure point. 22-seater shuttle - no reservation required. The chalets of Chailloux are built in the middle of a mountain pasture. An exceptional green landscape allows you to admire the Mont Blanc massif as well as the Bossons glacier, located just opposite.

The natural site of the Mer de Glace comes from the glaciers of Leschaux and Géant. The Mer de Glace is the largest glacier in France: 7 km long, 40 km2 in area, 200 m thick, altitude 1913 m. Soak up the high mountain atmosphere of the place, contemplating the Drus (3754m), and the Grandes Jorasses (4208m), mythical summits that have seen so many mountaineers illustrate themselves in their faces. In 1741, the Englishmen Windham and Pocock, ignoring the local superstitions, visited the famous "glaciers" of the Chamonix valley, considered at the time as haunts of demons. Despite dire predictions, they came down alive and described for the first time what they called the Mer de Glace. 1880, the Grand Hôtel du Montenvers was inaugurated, the time when mules and sedan chairs brought the first tourists to the site, at an altitude of 1913m. In 1892, the project to build a railroad to reach Montenvers was launched. It aroused fierce opposition from Chamonix residents who feared the alteration of their valley and wanted to protect the jobs of the guides and muleteers. 1908, on August 9th, the line opened up to the place called "Caillet".

The Cascade du Dard restaurant offers a varied menu featuring home-made dishes based on local produce (cheese, charcuterie, wine...) and recipes from our region: Fondue, reblochonnade, and the famous "Farçon de mamie", a recipe handed down from generation to generation. Welcome to the Buvette du Cerro! Accessible on foot, the Buvette du Cerro is located on the right bank of the Bossons glacier, between the Dard waterfall and the Plateau des Pyramides. Signposted path from Les Bossons and the various access parking lots (Dard and Cerro). Local, organic and zero-waste cuisine! La Buvette du Cerro offers home-cooked, organic, local and zero-waste food. In summer, the buvette is open every day until September 17, from 10.30am to 6pm, then will be open for the All Saints' vacation. No reservation necessary for lunch.
