Between the currents of Huchet and Contis, nature has remained rough and wild. In the heart of the Landes coastline, men have sometimes tamed the elements, without ever really succeeding in domesticating them.

A long stage links Hagetmau, in the south of the Landes department, and Orthez, an emblematic village in Béarn, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Via a succession of country roads, it passes through the villages of Chalosse until it enters Béarn via the crossroads town of Sault-de-Navailles. Portions of the road finally take over and bring you closer to Orthez, a stage of great historical and architectural interest.

Welcome to Coursayre country, where men can be as stubborn as the black cows that the spreaders come to challenge in the arena.

From the church of Saint André (12th century), dating from the viscounty of Louvigny, to the Baille mill on the Landes, the circuit offers you a crossing in the north of Béarn on the commune of Malaussanne, at the limit of the Landes.

From the 12th-century church of Saint André, dating from the Viscounty of Louvigny, to the Baille mill on the Landes, the trail takes you across the northern part of Béarn to the commune of Malaussanne. The church is the main feature of this trail: with its elongated plan, it was remodeled in the 14th or 15th century, when a low side was built on the south side. The east aisle features a ribbed crossing, with pedestals resting on Gothic bases. Mullioned windows and polygonal chevet. South aisle separated from nave by three semicircular arches. Out of Béarn until the French Revolution, this building was remodeled in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The circuit is a nature trail along the water and forests of the Soubestre... With its source near Limendous, north of Pau, the Luy de France crosses the territory for almost 20 km. Bordered by large areas of forest and farmland, it is one of the waterways managed in a way that respects the natural environment. Calm and tranquil in appearance, this watercourse can rise rapidly, spreading over plots of land during heavy rainfall upstream, and fall just as quickly downstream.

The circuit, with the church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Cabidos, offers you a beautiful view of the countryside and the vineyards of the Manor of Trubessé (Château de Cabidos) Before or after your walk, don't hesitate to go to the domain of Cabidos (road to the town hall) and the domain of L'Escudé (behind the church) then let yourself be guided in the world of oenology.

Halfway between Dax and Mont de Marsan, only 10 minutes from St Sever, you are in Toulouzette village on the outskirts of Adour. These products are branded “Monastic”, which guarantees the quality of products made exclusively by monks. Take advantage of your visit to stop by the grand Gothic church (1875) displaying ancient and contemporary works of art and the chapel, a former Maylis sanctuary renovated by the monks in 1980. A bucolic stroll through the monks’ park and gardens is sure to delight you. Based here since 1946, the friars will share the secrets of making herbal teas and polishing waxes with you. Bonus: The abbey overlooks the scenery of Chalosse. On clear days, you can even see the Pyrenees in the distance.

In the Landes, foie gras evokes festivities, conviviality and the land. Christian LABAT, one of the most awarded producers in France (32 gold medals), demonstrates the economic relevance of an approach that favours quality and control of marketing channels. On his property of 22 hectares of corn, he raises, feeds and processes ducks and geese.

Go through the corn to find Mr. Green, a crazy farmer, lost in his maze. Can you lead him to the exit? Built in the 12th century, the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is one of the most beautiful in Chalosse. The Romanesque apse is decorated with 4 fine arcatures. Four of the five bays located above are now walled. The apse is supported by four buttresses. Like many Landes churches, the church was fortified in the 14th century. In 1435, a funerary and votive chapel was built against the north side of the church. A true Gothic masterpiece, the stone lacework of the arcatures and lancets preciously decorate this austere entrance. Its furnishings are remarkable: a stone pulpit and a wooden staircase, capitals and vaulting on cul-de-lamps illustrated with finely sculpted figures, a majestic altarpiece and high altar of polychrome wood... and even a well. Note also the beautiful sculptures of the tombs and keystones which are stored in the nave.

The Tauzia farm, near the Romanesque church of Brocas, stands on the slopes of the Chalosse, of which it is a proud representative. Discover the open-air breeding of goslings and geese with foie gras, watch the feeding of the ducks before stopping at the shop to buy foie gras, confits, duck breasts stuffed with foie gras and other rillettes, all produced on the farm. A small farmer's museum with the old tools of the former gourmets serves as a showcase for this unmissable shop.

The Ferme du Haza is a traditional duck farm which is typical of the Chalosse countryside. Benoît Justes is the heir to precious know-how. He respects the recipes and methods handed down to him from his parents and grandparents. This means you will have the pleasure of savouring stew, pâtés, rillettes, foie gras, confits, duck breast and more at their spacious inn with its panoramic view of the farm. After proving himself in the Haute Landes area, Chef Fabien Réniche relocated to Mugron, in the heart of Chalosse. He serves simple yet high-quality set menus made with fresh products, plus a seasonal à la carte menu. Each evening, this anti-waste advocate also sells trays of unsold goods from the lunch service for €3 (by reservation only). He also offers pizzas (by advance order) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings.

For food lovers !!!! After 9 years of delighting the taste buds of Capbreton's residents, Corinne from Wok a Koko has settled in a pretty little village, Passan. Here, she concocts tasty dishes from a variety of horizons. Her specialty is wok cooking (Thai, Indian, Creole), with recipes brought back from her travels. She also does snacking with homemade nuggets, burgers and kebabs (meat or veggie) and, of course, homemade fries. She also offers homemade bites, samoussas, accras, falafels and cheese rolls. All homemade! You can eat in (outdoor tables) or order takeaway! All you have to do is enjoy!

Across from the church on the village square, near the lookout point, you can’t miss the lovely façade of Café Central! In the heart of the village of Mugron, starting from the church square, walk a few steps down Rue Frédéric Bastiat to discover La Grange à Pizzas, where Luc, wearing the chef’s hat of a pizzaiolo, will serve you a wide variety of artisanal pizzas cooked on stone. You can choose from a wide range of pizzas, either dining in or to take away.

If you like beautiful landscapes, you will love to walk in Chalosse and you will see fields of corn, hillsides as far as the eye can see, flowered villages, and here and there, some cattle farms of eggs, poultries and fat ducks. A few kilometers away, the monks of the abbey in Maylis will welcome you and show you how they make wax and grow herbal tea. Going up, you will discover Mugron with the art gallery Rouge Garance, Montfort-en-Chalosse and the Museum of Chalosse.

When you arrive on the property of 7 000 m², you are in front of their house which can welcome guests with its 4 bedrooms. Your furnished rental is on the first floor. Equipped with an independent entrance, the owners wanted to create, in addition to the kitchen, bedroom and shower room, a relaxation area where you can take your time. You will also benefit from the outdoor facilities such as the summer kitchen bodega. Visit their animals and take the opportunity to improve your English and French with their courses. The 2 lodgings together can accommodate 12 people on the site.
