Albertine Sarrazin a habité Camias pendant que son mari faisait les 400 coups à Montpellier et L'Arboux le berceau de la reine des pommes et de notre cher oignon doux. Après L'Arboux reprendre la route pour ensuite descendre sur la voie ferrée. Cette voie ferrée a transporté tant de gens et de marchandises par ses ponts et tunnels successifs.Attention à L'Arboux de bien suivre le tracé de la fiche pour revenir par la voie ferrée. Arrivé à la grande maison, ne pas remonter sur la droite, malgré les rectangles jaunes, mais descendre tout droit vers le pont submersible en béton. Arphy and the upper Coudoulous valley A lovely tour of the upper Coudoulous valley, the village of Arphy and some of its many hamlets. This varied itinerary alternates small roads, forest tracks and technical trails between the valley floor and the foothills of the Serre de la Toureille, at altitudes of between 400 and 900m. The start is at the foot of the village of Arphy, near the Temple, and involves first heading south, crossing the torrent by a footbridge, and then skirting it first on a narrow path, then on a small country road to the hamlet of Galari, the lowest point of the route. From here, head towards the hamlet, cross it, then cross the Coudoulous again by a picturesque bridge and climb up to the hamlet of La Matte and the town hall. After crossing the departmental road, the demanding climb continues along a technical path to the Col du Minier road (D48). Follow this road for a few hundred meters to take a recently widened track (DFCI G44), and then, alternating tracks and paths, reach the high point at "la Citerne", on the route de la Luzette, with some fine views over the valley. This is the start of the long descent along the Navès stream, to reach the hamlet of Bions after crossing the D48 again, and return to the village of Arphy and its picturesque lanes.

In the heart of the Vallée Borgne, in the village's old mill, the Maison de l'Eau has naturally found its place. Around this witness to the past, a modern and entertaining exhibition presents water in the Cévennes. Mister Beaver, the mascot, invites young and old to a more unusual visit, combining questions, games and experiments... An interpretive trail completes the visit with a presentation of some of the tree species native to the Cévennes. This is a fun walk for the whole family, during which you'll come face-to-face with the birds that pass between forest and river. Equipped with a pair of binoculars, you can follow the signposted path to learn how to observe and recognize birds (also downloadable from our website). In addition to visits, the Maison de l'Eau also offers environmental education sessions for schoolchildren, leisure centers and the general public, as well as nature outings (on the trail of the beaver, the otter, the little people of the water...), walks, visits to the village... Located in the Borgne Valley, in the commune of Les Plantiers, our Fontfouillouse gîte welcomes you to an unspoilt valley at the foot of a 12th-century Romanesque church. In the midst of the Cévennes chestnut grove, we have created our group gîte. The gardeners, Agnès and Nicholas, will be delighted to welcome you and tell you all about the history of their garden, which has been transformed over time. And don't be fooled by their passion, as they love to share their love of gardening with you. Patient as gardeners! "Les fleurs moisissures", a tribute to Hundertwasser, and the mosaic grotto "ne révez pas le monstre qui dort" have been completed, and the planned exhibitions and workshops have been postponed until next spring. A small organic nursery has been set up! The "croq'jardin" are reserved for visitors only. For the peace and quiet of our visitors, our dog friends are not allowed in the garden. Marker 1The mouflon is a ruminant mammal related to the domestic sheep. Its staple diet is herbaceous plants, which it finds in open spaces such as heaths. It also feeds on about a hundred other plants (ferns, mosses, mushrooms, etc.).The horns of the male (ram) are spiral-shaped and grow continuously, which makes it possible to estimate its age. The female (ewe) rarely has horns. The mouflon's life expectancy is around 14 years. Being an excellent climber, it can easily escape to steep areas in case of danger. These rocky zones also help limit the growth of its hooves through wear.

In his works, André Chamson constructed an imaginary Cévennes park. His writings bear witness to his love for the area and his attachment to his Huguenot ancestors. A nationally renowned writer, he was elected to the Académie française in 1956. His final works see time and death become more powerful than work or human faith.

Marker 2Twenty-three mouflons were introduced to this mountain range in 1954. They roamed the ridge rimmed by heath that you can see in front and to the right of you. Since introduction, the population has slowly grown on the Cevenol slopes. In 1999, the Gard Departmental Hunters' Federation in tandem with the Office National des Forêts, the Cévennes National Park, farmers and hunters took over the management and monitoring of the species. Since then, the population has grown steadily in the Aigoual area, and has recently started to settle other districts as well.

Marker 6L'Abeuradou is located on a draille, a drovers' road for shepherds and their flocks to move between the plains of Languedoc and summer pastures on the southern Massif Central. The name L'Abeuradou indicates that it is a spot where the flocks drink and rest before continuing their long hike. Today's domestic sheep is descended from the mouflon. Since being introduced to the slopes of Mont Aigoual, the mouflon has thus been rubbing shoulders with its cousin, which grazes here in summer. Their cohabitation does not seem to be a problem for the livestock farmers.

Marker 5The Cévennes National Park is unusual for a national park in that hunting is allowed in its central zone. In the absence of large predators, hunting is considered compatible with maintaining a good natural balance. Local mouflons are subject to a compulsory hunting plan, which estimates the numbers to be culled every year. There is regular monitoring to check population levels. Knowing that a mouflon group grows by about 25% a year, it is possible to calculate the number of animals that can be culled without compromising the future of the herd.

Marker 4The Pic de Barette is a perfect viewpoint for spotting a great variety of animals, especially the golden eagle. Mouflons like to warm up in the sun and graze quietly on the slope opposite you, near the rocks that stick out of the forest. You will need patience and silence to spot mouflons. In spring and summer, their beige colour stands out against the rather green surroundings. In autumn and winter, it is easiest to make out the females' white 'face masks' and the males' saddles (white mark on the back).

Located in the Borgne Valley, in the commune of Les Plantiers, our Fontfouillouse gîte welcomes you to an unspoilt valley at the foot of a 12th-century Romanesque church. In the midst of the Cévennes chestnut grove, we have created our group gîte. Our accommodation comprises a large living room/kitchen with direct access to the outside, and sleeping areas for up to 15 people. Ideally located, we open our house for a stopover on a hike or a longer stay, a weekend with family or friends. We look forward to welcoming you. We propose lodgings out of stone and wooden of contemporary aspect with a total capacity of 55 peoples.
