A walk “by stone and wood”, through time, past ancient vestiges and ancestral know-how. Go uphill on the road and past Meyrannes school. At the bridge over Montagnac gully, continue straight ahead, then fork right. A path starts between the houses at the top of the village. A steep path leads you quickly to Montgrillet, which it enters through an olive grove. Go past the disused quarry above a large lime-kiln. Your footpath climbs on the right to a  dry-stone hut. Continue going uphill to Montgrillet on the same path between two walls, which cuts through an oak grove. Turn left towards La Font-de-Bourboul on a path that is paved to begin with. Retrace your steps, walk alongside the Bourboul brook and then climb the wooden steps. Go uphill and turn right onto your original outbound path.

A short walk to do with the family starting from the hamlet of Chadouillet in the town of Saint-André-de-Cruzières. P – From the Place du Planet, go to the signpost for Chadouillet. Chadouillet - Follow Les Courpatières 1,3 km ().Take the first left on the Chanisse path. Continue on the small tarmac road that becomes a track. Cross the bridge and follow the path bordered by low walls. Les Courpatières - Follow Carissoules 0,5km. Take the path on the right, then on the left to go down through the oak trees towards the Cotepatière resurgence. When you reach the river bed, follow it for a few metres on the left, then go up a path on the right. Carissoules - Follow Chadouillet 0,9km. Turn right onto the path from which you can see the bell tower of Saint-André-de-Cruzières, and return to the starting point

The Concluses de Lussan is an exceptional site, with its rugged, lunar appearance. The extraordinary view of the rocky escarpments and cavities in the river bed give the site its full measure and splendor. Start at the Concluses parking lot in Lussan. Follow the trail downhill to the Portail des Concluses, the trail’s final stop. Return by the same route. The ecosystem, geology, and human settlement are among the topics illustrated by interpretive panels along the trail. From April through October, depending on rainfall, the stream bed may be dry. In that case, you can follow its course on foot and enjoy a beautiful walk in the heart of nature.

The Concluses are long natural gorges and rocky corridors carved out over time by the Aiguillon river. Discover an exceptional panorama and ecosystem. Departure from Lussan from the parking lot at the foot of the village. Head for "Les Concluses" on the D259, following the "Le Vallen" hiking sign for 1.3 km. Then take the right-hand path for 1.6km towards the Prade sign. Turn right and follow the signs for Les Concluses for 2.2km. Turn left and follow the Concluses interpretation trail, which will take you to the viewpoint where you can observe the panorama. Return to Lussan by turning back. From the Concluses parking lot, follow the "l'Espesviel" sign for 1.3km. Go straight on towards "la Grande Croisière" for 300m, then join "la Clapeyrolle" via the D643 for 600m. Turn right to follow "Lac de Mercouire" for 1.4km. Turn left, then right onto the D143 for 1.4km. Take the track on the left to join the "Gammeile" sign, then turn right to take the D143 back up to the village parking lot. Do not venture into the Aiguillon riverbed during periods of high water, thunderstorms or from January 15 to June 30. Some sections are more strenuous than others, requiring you to negotiate rocks. Some slippery passages in wet weather on the lower section.

In the immediate vicinity, the accro-bambino allows the little ones to experience their own adventure on a suspended course surrounded by safety nets. A permanent orienteering course, ideal for families to discover, located in the heart of the Espace Naturel Sensible des Gorges de la Cèze. Discover the Méjannes le Clap plateau, its unique karst geology, the diversity of its flora and fauna, its natural heritage and the way man has adapted to it. The Espace Sport Orientation Dolmen des Fées offers a wide range of circuits. With the help of orienteering guides (Espaces Naturels Gardois collection), you'll find marked routes and precise indications on vegetation, hydrography, relief and planimetry (rocks, buildings, roads...). This activity is designed for everyone, from the initiated to beginners, and includes three trails with questions to deepen your knowledge of the local heritage and environment. The Département du Gard manages this Sensitive Natural Area (one of the largest in France) and implements sustainable forest management.

Visit one of France's most beautiful caves on an easy tour. With an inside temperature of 14°C, we advise you to bring warm clothing. The return journey takes a small train through the natural site. Guided and commented along a secure path lasting around an hour, the Cocalière underground tour is accessible to all ages. The temperature here is constant, at around 14 degrees, and you'll discover a living cave, i.e. one that's still forming. As well as the usual calcite concretions, stalagmites and stalactites in a variety of shapes and sizes (including massifs and columns), you can admire discs along the way - circular concretions that defy the laws of gravity. Those at La Cocalière are among the most beautiful and unusual, from the fine draperies (or calcite galons) to the semi-transparent growth streaks suspended from the vault, not forgetting the eccentric budding crystals and the long, slender fistulas or macaroni. All these geological curiosities are most often mirrored in the limpid or bluish water of the gours or natural basins with their scalloped calcite edges. The Salle des Gours, with its staggered staircases, is an outstanding example. As you pass by, a pearl in a cavern in formation will catch your eye, all the more so as it is a visually rare natural phenomenon. Near the exit, you'll see a representation of a prehistoric excavation site, showing objects and bones from the Neolithic and Bronze Age. From here, a little train will take you back to the reception area via a path through the garrigue. Sentier Découverte - The 35-minute walk takes you along a shady path, partially accessible to baby carriages. Access is free. INSOLITE A night for two in the heart of the Grotto, 50 meters underground; in a magical environment of sparkling stalactites precious calcite crystals and concretions. In a vast room, a transparent pyramid 3.50 meters high of 25m2 will welcome thrill-seekers for a night for a night under a vault studded with natural wonders. Our activity centre features a petanque pitch and picnic area, with private river access. We also organise parties for groups. You can choose between various distances (5 km, 7 km, 12 km, 14 km or 19 km) and different levels of difficulty. Some of the trails are challenging, while others are ideal for novices. We propose a private car park, hot showers, a nautical shop, a snack bar and Wifi. Quiet observation, relaxation and sport are all on the programme!

Situated at an altitude of 275 metres, the castrum of Allègre emerges from the garrigue and dominates the middle Cèze valley. Despite being in ruins today, it still contains towers and manor houses, a double rampart, a chapel and a village. The mansions have a number of remarkable features: round-arched doors and windows, cupboards, niches, staircases, loopholes, archways, hoarding holes and superimposed latrines within the walls. Ten centuries of history "The origin of the site remains unknown. A tribute paid in 1163 by the lords of Ferreyroles to Bernard Pelet, lord of Alès, is the first known document attesting to the occupation of the site. In 1209, the Count of Toulouse acknowledged that he held the castrum in fief from the Bishop of Uzès, and King Philippe Auguste confirmed this in 1211. Medieval society, which was very advanced in Languedoc, gave the same rights to boys and girls, which explains why the castrum evolved into a coseigniory. While this was not uncommon in the region, it took on a special dimension in Allègre, where there were no fewer than twelve seigniorial houses, making the area a veritable Village of Knights. In the 14th century, during the Hundred Years' War, the lordship of Allègre fell victim to an attack by “boors and manants”, who took over the castrum in 1383: this was the Tuchin Revolt. The lords then preferred more comfortable residences on the plain. The peasants used the site until modern times, with the occupation of one tower ending in 1910. Today, Allègre castle bears witness to ten centuries of history." Nature lovers, the Gorges de la Cèze will plunge you into wild and intense landscapes. Hiking is the best way to explore this "Natura 2000" listed natural site. The clear, peaceful waters of the Cèze and the song of the multitude of birds nesting along the rock faces invite you to relax and escape. Beaches of the Cèze : If the lapping of the water makes you long for a swim, let yourself be tempted! The Cèze offers 3 beaches in Méjannes-le-Clap alone. The Roy, Terris and Quittard beaches are equipped with picnic tables, bowling alleys, horse and bicycle racks and parking facilities. So you can spend summer days with your family by the river in comfort, in an exceptional natural setting. ATTENTION: These beaches are not supervised. Your children swim under your responsibility. Although accessible all year round, we advise against visiting the river banks in wet weather: the banks are flood-prone.

Beaches in the Gorges de la Cèze at Méjannes-le-Clap Que vous soyez un amateur de calme, de verdure, de baignade, de farniente ou de détente, vous serez ravis de découvrir les 3 plages qu’offre Méjannes-le-Clap : Plage du Roy, Plage de Quittard et Plage de Terris. Vous pouvez partir à la journée avec votre panier repas, 3 plages sont aménagées avec des tables de pique-nique, boulodrome, grands parkings. Vous pouvez vous y rendre en voiture mais également à pied, à cheval ou en VTT. Cependant, même si à l’aller, ce sera facile d’accéder aux trois plages de la Cèze car vous descendrez le plateau par des sentiers balisés, il faudra bien prendre en compte que le retour sera plus difficile avec un beau petit dénivelé qui vous fera suer un peu mais soyez assurés que cela en aura valu la peine! A savoir qu’un carto-guide est en vente à l’Office de Tourisme de Méjannes mais aussi dans de nombreux autres offices de tourisme, il est au tarif de 5€ et regroupe 410 km d’itinéraires balisés sur le secteur de Méjannes mais aussi sur une partie de la Communauté de Communes De Cèze Cévennes. Points de vue, dolmens, Gorges, avens, grottes, … y sont recensés.La baignade est idéale lorsque les chaleurs arrivent, cependant les plages ne sont pas surveillées, alors ne perdez pas de vue votre famille ! Ce sont trois plages de galets où l’eau est régulièrement contrôlée et la Cèze est alimentée tout au long de son parcours par des sources. Si vous disposez d’un parasol, n’hésitez pas à le prendre avec vous car les plages sont peu ombragées!Vous serez heureux de découvrir une partie des Gorges de la Cèze et vous aurez un superbe point de vue sur les falaises surplombant la Cèze. A la Plage du Roy, peut être que vous aurez un peu de chance et pourrez observer la famille de bouquetins abritée dans une des nombreuses cavités. Seul, entre amis, en famille avec vos enfants, vous ne serez pas déçu du déplacement et n’oubliez pas votre maillot de bain lors des beaux jours!Par temps de pluie, nous vous déconseillons de vous rendre sur les berges de la rivière car les rives sont en zone inondable.

The castle of Montalet is the most imposing seigniorial complex in the upper Cèze valley. At an altitude of 275 metres, with a surface area of 1 hectare, it observes several traffic routes known since Antiquity. In the 12th century, the castle of Montalet and its outbuildings were a "bargaining chip" between the bishop of Uzès and the lord of Anduze. In the 12th century, the site was taken over by the army of Amaury de Montfort. Montalet Castle was equipped with a huge cistern in the central courtyard, fed by all the rainwater that flowed towards it, which made it possible to hold out for a long time against the besiegers. Despite the reorganisation of the fortress in the 15th century, the castle still has a number of architectural features: round arched doors, cross vaults, mullioned bays, loopholes, fireplaces, corbelled latrines, and internal staircases leading to the covered way. The south-western façade had an entrance door surmounted by a bretèche which collapsed in 1980. Medieval festivities at the beggining of August.

Le Montgrillet is the hillock above the village. The population of Meyrannes used to be overwhelmingly farmers, who lived on what they grew. Le Montgrillet is exposed to the sun and close to the village, and was the ideal spot for farming. Evidence for this can be seen all along the path. The grove of olive trees above the path indicates one of the crops once grown in Meyrannes, along with grapes and mulberry trees (for leaves to feed to silkworms). (B. Mathieu)  

Archaeological Exhibition from the Neolithic Period to the Middle Ages. The exhibition brings together archaeological objects found in various locations around the village, which tell us about the evolution of the population and the history of Meyrannes.

This structure was built using dry-stoning techniques (i.e. without binder) and was once used by the farmer to store his harvest, tidy away his tools or take shelter when a storm about to burst did not leave him enough time to return home. The builder chose to make his hut back onto a terrace, so as to economise on one wall and save space. On this sloping land, efficiency is of the essence: the farmer has to make the most of every cultivatable square metre. Terrace walls built from stones serve to create horizontal plots, remove stones from the land and prevent erosion. (B. Mathieu)
