Camping Meyssac Collonges: Gateway to Limousin Treasures

Following paths lined with walnut trees, this walk starts in Saillac, a village with a lot of character, with its walnut oil press and the work of the blacksmith. It will then take you to the heights of Ligneyrac where the view extends from Turenne to the Monts d'Auvergne, in the distance behind Meyssac, then to the foot of the château de La Rue, an imposing residence with its four turrets. The walk continues along a small path full of charm, perched on the ridges. A short stop at the village of La Bertine and the arrival is in sight.

During the Middle Ages, the Limousin, a land of saints, saw a growth in the number of pilgrimages in the region and the veneration of relics housed in abbeys and priories built by monks. The area was strongly influenced, especially in the 12C, by the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela. A new path heading towards Santiago de Compostela, the Voie de Rocamadour en Limousin et Haut Quercy, has just been waymarked from Bénévent-l’Abbaye to Rocamadour passing through Eymoutiers, Tulle and Collonges-la-Rouge. Red...will be the colour that will accompany you throughout this walk. Red...like the Permian sandstone of the stones used to build the houses of the villages of Collonges-la-Rouge, Meyssac and Lagleygeolle...Red...like the earth that covers the paths that lead through the mountains and valleys. Covered with magnificent castles, Collonges-la-Rouge also reveals itself through its small heritage. The inhabitants of Collonges had to show ingenuity to tame the water which was very rare. During the tour, you will discover the Bassignac washhouse, which had the particularity of not freezing in winter, or the aqueduct, near Beauregard, made of a single block of red sandstone.

A colorful and surprising ride awaits you on this 14 km 500 circuit. The route is not at all difficult, so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. The starting point of the tour is Collonge-la-Rouge, where the festivities begin?
