On the outskirts of Montardon, this walk is a delightful way to discover the hillsides of Béarn. The landscape alternates between hedgerows, woods, meadows and villages, sometimes with the blue line of the Pyrenees as a backdrop. This varied mountain bike circuit takes you through the valleys and hills of Montardon in a tranquil atmosphere. Few difficulties but a few climbs will prepare you for more challenging ventures other parts of our territory. Did you know that over a century ago, this area was the scene of human activity? Les Marlères were limestone quarries. This rock, extracted with pickaxes, was transported by horse-drawn carriage to private kilns where it was heated to obtain lime which, before the advent of concrete, was used to make mortar for the construction industry. The "chaufournier", in charge of the kiln, built a vault from limestone, under which he placed wood. It took 48 hours of heating and 17 steres.

This is a great, varied and technical mountain bike trail. From the Bastard forest or from each of the villages of Montardon (flood control basins), Navailles-Angos (town hall), Sauvagnon (waterfall) and Serres-Castet (Serres-Castet bus station parking lot) or from the Lac du Balaing parking lot, you can begin this long journey. The variety of landscapes encountered (cultivated hillsides, lakes tucked away at the bottom of valleys, dark forests), the distant views (the Pont Long, half the Pyrenees range) and the quality of this ride (little tarmac, some technical sections, others easier) make this mountain bike route one of the most beautiful in the nearby Palais region.

Heritage walk in Morlaàs, the historic capital of Béarn Situated to the north-east of Pau, this historic capital of Béarn from 1080 to 1260 enjoyed brilliant development thanks to the Fors de Morlaàs, a charter of privileges that made Béarn a true precursor in terms of justice and democracy. On his arrival, Viscount Centulle V built the château de la Hourquie, the exact location of which is unknown. The town quickly developed from south to north in a succession of towns surrounded by moats. This topography, fixed in the 1st quarter of the 12th century, is what we know today, with the main street, 1.5 km long, whose different names correspond to these medieval villages. Many traces of the past remain from this prosperous period, when the Viscounts lived here and minted their coins, including the church of Sainte-Foy, a jewel of Romanesque art.

What a pleasure it is to soar above Morlaàs on this undulating route! It's a great privilege to leave the hustle and bustle behind and quickly find yourself in the peace and quiet of the heights. The view over Pau from this path is beyond compare.

While this stage links two masterpieces of Romanesque art, the church of Sainte-Foy in Morlaàs and the cathedral of Notre-Dame in Lescar, it also boasts a very interesting natural heritage despite its proximity to the city of Pau. The view of the Pyrenees is omnipresent on a clear day, and you can discover the Bastard forest, the green lung of the Lande du Pont Long, trodden by thousands of walkers, pilgrims and shepherds.

The educational area comprises a room and an outdoor circuit, with access to the technical and museographic area. Classified as an Historical Monument in 1841, The Church Sainte-Foy, built in the heart of the historical capital of Bearn, shows very impressive carved capitals in the choir like the Beheading of Sainte Foy and the Piton de Jaca, an architectural motif reproduced on the pilgrimage roads. Original stones of the Romanesque portal, which had been renovated in the 19th century, are exhibited at the Office of Tourism. The original of the remarkable tympanum can be seen in the chapel of the Bienheureux Bernard. Ten stained glass windows have been done by Mauméjean (1869).
