Go in the direction of Pas de la Clé, which used to be a passageway for the transport of timber between the mountain and the valley. Starting from the Gève car park, head towards Pas de la Clé via Le Refuge, La Patte d'Oie, Le Cyclone, La Vira Gros-Jean and Les Gelinottes (with the option of doing a round trip at La Glacière at 500 meters). At Pas de la Clé, head for Bec de l'Orient via Sous le Pas Brochier and Pas Brochier. After Bec de l'Orient head to La Cheminée, L'Avion, Charbonnière and on to Haut du Canyon. Walk back to the Gève car park via Le Refuge.

This family walk brings you to discover the Molière alpine pastures, an emblematic place of the Vercors which offers magnificent panoramas over the entire Alps.A great classic of the Vercors but so unavoidable! From La Molière, in the car park, take the Col de la Croix Perrin passing through the Pas du Tracollet 1. At Charande 2, you arrive at a remarkable lookout point at the highest point of Autrans (1709 m). Continue to Pas de l'Ours 3 passing by Sous Charande 4 then get off at Gîte de la Molière 5. Continue to La Molière, crossing the alpine pastures where hundreds of young cows graze every summer, go under the Tracollet 6 and join the starting car park.

Discover the viewpoint of the Dent du Loup and the Plateau de Sornin. Perched at 1500 meters above sea level, it overlooks a part of the Isère valley. Departure from the parking of the Leisure Center of Engins. Follow the yellow and green markings at first before taking the GR 9. Take the path that goes up in the forest towards La Croisette 1. At this crossing, follow the GR9 which will take you to Sornin 2 by a forest road, then turn left to reach La Cote 1545 meters 3. Rally the Dent du Loup 5 through Plateau de Sornin 4. From there, a superb panorama awaits you (be careful, cliff edge!). To return, head towards the Hamlet of Sornin 6 passing by the crossroads Plateau de Sornin. Then take the path that descends into the forest towards Fournel 7, then continue for a short time on the road to the Center of Leisure (700 meters approximately).

Explore the footsteps of the priest of Saint-Nizier, who used to walk down to celebrate mass in the village of Engins, through the "Pas" whith that name. Departure from the center of the village of Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte. A little after the roundabout in the direction of Grenoble, head towards the crossroads of the Grande Fontaine 1. From there, follow Le Pas du Curé. You then enter the forest through Le Corba 2 and Sous la Falaise 3. The trail then winds through technical passages along the cliff. You can then admire the parade of the Coulou. At Batardière 4, you follow the road to the Barrage d'Engins 5 which you cross to join the hamlet of Les Jaux 6. At Les Jaux follow the GR9 which goes between two houses. Cross a footbridge over the Furon River, then a field before attacking a strong road twist (slippery in rainy weather) to access the Pas de la Corne 7. The return to the village of Saint-Nizier is done by GR 9 through Le Goulet des Moulins 8.

Take to the skies to discover Voiron from an unexpected angle! From the St-Bruno church by the streets of the 4 paths and the Orphelines you will reach the directional post of the Bavoir and the Garenne: let's go for a nice walk ! A landscape reading table and a picnic table overlooking the city await you. A shorter variant is possible by starting at the College la Garenne. Only 1,9kms and a vertical drop of 139m. A must in the Pays Voironnais! The start is at the foot of the emblematic St Bruno de Voiron church, completed in 1872 and listed as a historic monument in January 2007. Attention forest work in progress from Les Grattons to the road. The route begins to the north-west on rue des Quatre Chemins then goes straight up rue des Orphelines in the direction of the Collège de la Garenne. Under the parking lot of the Lycée de la Martellière, a conservatory orchard ensures the sustainability of old varieties of local nuts. After the small pass, the final slope leads under the shaded canopy of chestnut thickets to Notre Dame de Vouise at an altitude of 735 m. Dominating the site of Voiron, the tower with its 90 steps, supports the statue dating from 1868 and presents a panoramic orientation table on the south of the Pays Voironnais, the Chartreuse and the Vercors.

The GTV (for Grand Tour du Vercors) is the opposite to the very high speed TGV!No high speed here, but one of the many hiking itineraries in the massif, to be enjoyed at a leisurely walking pace, taking in each landscape, mountain and viewpoint. Note, the 23 day duration to complete the Great Crossing of the Vercors by foot is given as an indication, and may be varied according to your hiking level and speed. The Great Crossing explores the trails of the Vercors Regional Natural Park. Created in 1970, the Park extends from 180 to 2,341 metres in altitude, culminating in the Grand Veymont and the Rocher Rond.The region brings together seven geographical sectors: the Quatre-Montagnes, the Coulmes, the Drome Vercors, the Royans, the Diois, the Trièves and the Gervanne. Alongside the Isère, we find the cool Northern Alps, whilst in the Drôme, the Mediterranean climate and fragrant vegetation perfume the paths. To the north and south, the massif is covered by a thick layer of limestone, which, through erosion, has created the spectacular landscapes: gorges, needles, cliffs, lapiaz… And when we say an exceptional environment, we also find amazing flora and fauna.But the Vercors is also a place where people live: 54,000 inhabitants are spread across the region, with the old "Vertacomicoriens" mixing with new residents attracted by the exceptional quality of life. The itinerary goes through numerous villages amongst the 84 in the park, ideal to visit and restock on supplies. After a magnificent day of hiking, who can resist the delicious "vercouline", a local speciality based on Vercors-Sassenage blue cheese? A variant to the main tour is a 60 kilometre trail going through the High Plateaux at the heart of the Nature Reserve. Created in 1985, the reserve nestles at the heart of the Vercors Park, in its highest and wildest area. No roads, no villages. The scarcity of surface water has prevented a permanent human presence. The only activities are grazing, which is still alive, and forestry. Its main task is to preserve and study nature. For this, the six reserve rangers conduct observations of the fauna and flora. Another specificity of this region: very little itinerary signposting, no real refuges, but instead unmanned cabins and shelters. These conditions may seem restrictive at first sight, but they provide the guarantee of total immersion in this rich, preserved natural environment. From the "Grand Tour" itinerary, you can also take a trip to the Vercors Haut-Plateaux at any time. Invent your own "GTV"!

The tourist and cultural site of the Caves de la Chartreuse invites you to discover the world of liqueur, the exceptional heritage and the know-how of the Carthusian monks through a new series of guided tours. As you enter this new museum space, you will stroll through the old production site in 7 spaces that symbolize the major periods in the history of Chartreuse liqueurs. From the origins of the Elixir to the birth of the liqueur or the foundation of the brand, you will be able to see nearly 1200 original pieces, never before exhibited. The tour continues through a space entirely dedicated to the plants that represent the basis of the manufacture of the monks' liqueurs. Here, all your senses will be awakened, you can taste, see, touch and smell. Before entering the historic cellar of Voiron, you will cross the atrium which gives pride of place to the Chartreuse massif, where the monks have been living for nearly a thousand years. Your visit will end with a tasting of traditional green and yellow liqueurs or non-alcoholic herbal tea.

The museum, created in 1989, is located in an old house in the Saint-Bruno district. It presents the studio fund of the painter Lucien Mainssieux and the collection of works he built up throughout his life, mainly paintings from the 19h and 20th centuries. Throughout his life, Lucien Mainssieux (1885-1958) collected works dating from the end of the 19th century, as well as those of his fellow students. He had an obsession : to create a museum for these works and to be its custodian… This collection is the testimony of the glance of the artist on the art, so its interests for the landscape painters of the XIX° century, for the Orientalist works as well as for his contemporaries and friends.

Les Gorges du Furon, framed by steep limestone cliffs, have been shaped by the torrent which today flows at the bottom of the gorges.

A rare 11th-century Romanesque church listed as a Historic Monument, open to visitors and hosting one of France's oldest Chamber Music Festivals, free concerts and temporary contemporary art exhibitions. Restored in 1964 by the artist Roger Lorin, the church has since been dedicated to the visual arts and music. The international festival is one of the oldest chamber music festivals in France, offering the chance to hear the best French and international ensembles in this venue with its exceptional acoustics (full programme on the website). Finally, the site of the 11th-century Romanesque Priory, adorned with frescoes and listed as a Historic Monument, is open to visitors (self-guided tours or guided tours for groups by appointment). Free concerts are given by top students from the region's conservatoires on Sundays at the Priory.

In 1944, following the Normandy landings, the call to arms went out in the Vercors. A watch was kept over the mountain passes across the entire massif to warn about a German attack. The Pas de La Clé was kept under surveillance by eight C3 fighters. In days gone by, the wood from the villages of Autrans and Méaudre was transported to the Pas de la Clé, where it was hurled into a purpose-built corridor before sliding down to Montaud and Veurey. The trunks were collected together on timber rafts on the Isère before being floated towards Beaucaire and the coast.

You are at one of the northern extremities of the Vercors, overlooking more than 1200 meters Grenoble and the valley of the Isère. A superb panorama over the Chartreuse awaits you, as well as a beautiful view of the northern barrier of the Vercors, including the cliffs of the Buffe and the Sure on the left.

The Autrans cooler is a cavity where snow accumulates in the winter and persists for much of the year. It has been traversed by cave explorers for a long time, since 1936 the speleo club of Paris arrives at the depth of -45 meters and it is in 1988 that the siphon terminal is explored in diving to -221 meters. Its karst network develops thanks to an enormous fault. Its resurgence is the Goule Noire (in the gorges of the bourne) distant of 18,5 km!

Herds have been kept on the Sornin for a long time. The communal shepherds already kept oxen and bulls, and from 1935 to 1985, 6,000 sheep grazed in the summer. Today, the 1,800 sheep that still make up the herd liven up this mountain pasture where the panorama is truly exceptional. It was in 2004 that the first wolf attack took place in the Sornin, and since the mountain dogs stand guard.

During the night of 2 February 1944, the Lancester aircraft of the Royal Air Force refueled the resistance of the Camp de Gève. The plane flying at low altitude is caught in a snowstorm, it crashed with its 7 men. The explosion was heard until the village of Autrans. The men still rest today in the cemetery of Autrans.

Beneath your feet is one of the largest subterranean networks of the Vercors, that of the Gouffre Berger. His discovery in 1953 by J. Berger led to a formidable human adventure which led in 1956 to the crossing of the coast -1000 meters, the first of the world speleology. The adventure is not over because the connection with the Cuves of Sassenage is always actively sought!

Summer billeting of the C3 Resistance members in 1943 and 1944. A makeshift hut built of sheet metal and branches gave the fighters shelter. Their days were made up of physical exercise and weapons training before the first battles of June 1944. The hut fell into ruin before being renovated in 2023 by the Cabane 44 association.

The black grouse takes its name from the superb tail in the form of a lyre which is provided by the male. It frequents the edge between the upper limit of the forest and the alpine lawns. It is a fierce and very discreet bird for much of the year. It remains hidden in the vegetation cover, moving by walking in search of small invertebrates, berries or seeds. In winter, this varied diet leaves room for coniferous needles and buds. It is in spring, with the nuptial dancing of the male, that these birds are more visible and noisy.
