The Legends Trail follows the gentle curves of the hillsides and rivers of this enchanting landscape which comes to life and tells its tales as you move through it.

You join the Chevauchée route in the Pays des Lacs region starting from the French border in Brûly. After a few metres, you are immersed in the Ardennes forest, which is the true green lung of the Walloon region, and the heart of an ecosystem inhabited by various wild species and an incredible biodiversity. After this gentle forest stretch lasting around eight kilometres, you reach the refreshing village of Oignies-en-Thiérache, which is known for its slate quarries and pretty stone houses. The ‘sentier des contrebandiers’ is a hike starting from Gespunsart on the French side and Bagimont (Belgium) that crosses the Ardennes Regional Nature Park in France and the Semois Valley National Park in Belgium.This 16 to 20 kilometre walk, which is also accessible by mountain bike, takes in a beautiful mix of flora and fauna, and allows you to discover the various practices of the smugglers and to see the famous barracks.

Come and breathe in the pure atmosphere of this small valley in the heart of the Élan national forest. 

On mainly paved forest roads, this walk crosses the southernmost part of the municipality of Vresse sur Semois. Discover the village of Pussemange located on the border with France and an impressive view from the watchtower of the vast forests in this remote corner.

The start of this walk is on the Bohan road in Hérisson. It is possible to park your car at the start. This is a short but difficult walk. After a gentle start on a wide forest road, the path descends towards the Semois. A short rest is necessary before the steep climb that awaits you. The narrow path climbs steeply next to the Sautou, a stream with beautiful rock formations along the water. The walk then returns via a path on the crest of the hill. Sturdy shoes are recommended

Inaugurated in 1989, the Elena Issatchenko Skating Rink, named after the Belarusian figure skating coach, is located in the Manchester district, near Lake Warenne. It allows the practice of free sliding on a 1300m2 track. A kindergarten is set up every Sunday morning, with an inflatable structure for families. Numerous ice sports are also available in the ice club, such as figure skating, hockey, speed skating and curling.

Located 4 km from Charleville-Mézières in the village of Prix-les-Mézières, the 150m² gîte sleeps up to 8 people. The building was constructed in the first half of the 16th century (according to the choir bays and the north-capital pier in the forechoir bay); the south aisle must have been added a little later. As the pillars and vaults were not built during the first campaign, they were erected in several stages: 1557 for the north aisle (date inscribed on an abutment) and 1622 for the crossing and chancel. The classical-style portal was built in the 17th century and the sacristy in 1717, as the date on the washbasin indicates. It was probably fortified in the late 16th or 17th century. The church of Saint-Martin, located in the centre of the village, has an elongated floor plan. The nave has three aisles and three bays and is preceded by a bell tower. A forechoir bay is flanked by a chapel to the north and a sacristy to the south. The chancel comprises a straight bay and a three-sided apse. The limestone rubble walls have ashlar bays. The central aisle has a limestone flagstone floor, while the choir has a black and red marble chequerboard floor. The walls are pierced with semi-circular and pointed arch windows. The interior is rib-vaulted, with gunshot openings in the walls. The church is covered in slate, with long-sloped roofs for the nave, chapel and choir, and a square spire for the bell tower.

Located in the small village of Cliron, the Charroué washhouse is a perfect place to relax. Not far from Charleville, this washhouse was, many years ago, an important part of the village where many families used to wash their clothes. It is still in good condition today, and the green space surrounding it means that everyone can come and enjoy a break.

The Bois de la Rosière monument stands on the edge of the wood from which it takes its name, in the commune of Tournes near Charleville-Mézières (Ardennes), where thirteen Resistance fighters were executed without trial on 29 August 1944. On 29 August 1944, a few hours before their departure, the Germans resigned themselves to releasing the patriots held in Charleville prison, Place Carnot, around fifty men and women. But at the insistence of the Gestapo and the French Militia, they decided to shoot some of the hostages beforehand. So it was that the thirteen unfortunates, chosen at random, were taken from their cell and transported by lorry to Rosière Wood (in the commune of Tournes), where they were immediately shot. They had been led to believe that they were going to be freed; among them were two women. The Bois de la Rosière monument was inaugurated on 30 August 1947 in the presence of many prominent members of the Ardennes Resistance and Pierre Schneiter, deputy for the Marne and brother of André Schneiter. The monument was erected on the site of the massacre at the initiative of the commune of Tournes, which had called for public subscriptions. It was designed by Gustave Maily, a sculptor from Reims. It consists of a marble stele erected on the site of a wooden Cross of Lorraine erected the day after the Liberation. Above the names of the thirteen Resistance fighters executed are engraved a Cross of Lorraine and the inscription : ‘Here on 29 August 1944, on the eve of the Liberation, thirteen patriots were shot by the Germans’.

Mont Cornu is a stone colossus that rivalled the power of the fortress in Bouillon. Although the entrance to the castle demonstrates humility, as you make your way around its contours on foot, Montcornet reveals the full extent of its power.

The Tournes mill, dating from the 15ᵉ century, belonged in 1582 to Nicolas Dancourt, a Mézières merchant. Renovated in 1837 by Jean-Louis Willième, its activity ceased in 1907. During the First World War, the buildings housed German prisoners. Converted to residential use in the 1960s, the site is arranged around a courtyard. To the east, the one-storey, square miller's house is adjoined by a sheepfold. Opposite, the employees' accommodation, with an adjoining stable, rises to one storey and an attic. To the north-west, the mill building, dating from 1582 (date visible on the metal ties), has three square storeys. The buildings, built of sandstone rubble with limestone surrounds, have no surviving milling equipment.

Saint-Martin church: a historical and architectural overview The round tower at the base of the bell tower could be the remains of a former castle, reused when the church was rebuilt. It is the oldest part of the building. The nave and chancel probably date from the late 15ᵉ century, based on the chancel bays. The vaults, completed in the 17ᵉ century, have blocked certain bays, such as the one in the south aisle, and feature ornate hanging keys, including the Argy family coat of arms. In the same century, fire hydrants and braces were added, along with the raising of the tower. The north portal, dated 1567, leads to a small building. The large bays in the nave date from the 19ᵉ century. A major restoration took place between 1924 and 1931. The church, located in the centre of the village, follows an elongated plan. It comprises a nave with three vessels and three bays, a projecting transept and a chancel with a straight bay ending in a polygonal apse. The bell tower has a round base and a square top. An imposing sacristy rests on the south arm of the transept. The interior is rib-vaulted with sculpted hanging keys. The limestone rubble walls are pierced with bays from different periods and numerous defensive openings. The floor is in black marble or black and grey checkerboard, and the slate roof has different pitches depending on the volume.

The church was rebuilt according to plans drawn up on 20 April 1844 by the departmental architect Delerue. However, the first third of the porch of the old church was replaced as a forebuilding, but its portal was still rebuilt; this part must date from the 18th century. In an initial project dated 16 March 1844, Delerue wanted to retain the old building and enlarge it by adding side aisles and a new choir. The church of Saint Arnould is located in the centre of the village and is westernised. It has an elongated plan. The four-bay, three-vessel nave is preceded by a forecourt, the ground floor of which is occupied by the timber-framed spiral staircase, the first floor by a gallery supported by two cast-iron columns and the ridge by the square timber-framed bell tower. The choir consists of a straight bay, framed by two sacristies, and a three-sided apse. The building is built of limestone rubble with a Dom-le-Mesnil ashlar chain. The floor of the nave's central aisle is covered with black marble tiles and the rest with concrete, and the choir with a black and white marble chequerboard. The walls are pierced with semicircular arched windows and the western doorway has a flat band and is topped by a triangular pediment supported by two brackets. The side aisles have ceilings, the central nave and the right choir bay are covered by a false barrel vault and the apse by a barrel vault. The nave and right choir bay are covered in synthetic material, while the apse and bell tower are covered in slate. The central nave and the right choir bay are covered with a pitched roof, the side aisles with shed roofs, the sacristies with gable roofs and the bell tower with a polygonal spire.

The parish church of Saint-Lambert in Arreux, in the Ardennes, is a religious building of ancient origin, dedicated to Saint Lambert, bishop of Maastricht in the 7th century. Built largely during the 16th century, the church is a blend of Gothic and Romanesque styles, reflecting the different phases of its development. Its sturdy bell tower and thick walls bear witness to a time when churches also served as a refuge for the inhabitants in times of conflict. Restored over the centuries, the church remains a central part of Arreux's religious and cultural heritage.

According to the date on the back of a painting in the choir, Saint-Nicolas church was inaugurated in 1831. Saint-Nicolas is located in the centre of the village and is a western church. It has an elongated plan. The three-vessel, four-bay nave is preceded by a western section comprising an entrance vestibule, surmounted by the organ loft supported by two cast-iron columns and the timber-framed bell tower, framed by the spiral staircase and the confessional chapel on the left and by a storeroom and the baptismal font chapel on the right. The choir consists of a straight bay and a semicircular apse with a polygonal volume against which the sacristy is built. The building is built of small and medium cut stone. The interior walls are plastered and the floor is paved with a checkerboard pattern of black and grey marble. The building has a single storey with semi-circular windows. The nave's three sections are separated by Ionic columns: the nave's central section is covered by a barrel vault, the side aisles by ceilings and the apse by a cul-de-four. All of the building's roofs are slate. The nave and choir are covered by a pitched roof, the apse by a polygonal hipped roof, the sacristy by a pitched and hipped roof and the bell tower by an imperial roof topped by a polygonal spire.

Saint-Luc church, in the centre of the village, has a chancel dating back to the 16th century. In 1843, the nave was enlarged by the addition of side aisles, work carried out by Jean-Louis Nonnon, a carpenter from Renwez. In 1854, the architect Delerue proposed demolishing the Romanesque tower of the bell tower and rebuilding one at the ridge of the nave, with the installation of the bell in 1862. In 1869, the sacristy was built under the supervision of the agent voyer Druart and the mason Jules Drouart. The church also served as a military hospital during the Second World War. The church has an elongated plan and faces north-east. The three-vessel nave has four bays, with an organ loft in the first bay and a spiral staircase in the north-west corner. The chancel comprises two straight bays and a three-sided apse, with a sacristy adjoining the south side and a storeroom on the north side. The timber-framed bell tower is located on the ridge of the nave, on the west side. The building is constructed of limestone rubble and Dom-le-Mesnil ashlar. The interior walls are rendered, and the floor is paved with limestone. The church is single-storey, with round-arched windows in the nave and pointed arches in the chancel. The nave is divided into three naves by Ionic columns. The central nave is covered by a pointed barrel vault, and the side aisles have ceilings. The chancel is rib-vaulted with seven quarters in the apse. The roofs are slate, with long-sloped roofs for the nave and choir, a hipped roof for the apse, long-sloped and hipped roofs for the sacristies, and a polygonal spire on the bell tower.

As we are familiar with travelling with babies, we provide the necessary equipment: changing table, cot, booster seat, nappies, baby towels, sheets, baby dishes. To make your journey easier and to lighten your suitcase, we provide hygiene products (soap, shampoo, cotton wool, cotton buds), shower towels, sheets, pillows, household products, table linen. To complete the picture, the exterior has been fitted out for even more relaxation: chiliennes, barbecue, petanque court, wooden terrace suspended over the water, games for children. All you have to do is enjoy the moment! For fishing enthusiasts, it is possible to fish on the pond on request (trout, roach). Equipment not provided. Here are some of the terms and conditions required for the rental: - The supervision of children in the chalet, at the playground and around the pond is the responsibility of the parents. - For reasons of hygiene and safety, swimming in the pond is not permitted. - Please note: The accommodation is not equipped with an internet box.
