Overlooking La Vaunage, the sea and the Pic-St-Loup, this site offers a magnificent panoramic view. The chapel was restored as part of the 2012 / 2013 heritage plan. The first mention of the building dates back to 1188, in the Franquevaux cartulary. It is probably part of a series of fortifications built at the end of the 12th century by the Count of Toulouse and his allies. At the time, Gard was a frontier zone between the possessions of Toulouse and Provence. Corconne belonged to the de Sauve-Anduze family, allied to the Count of Toulouse. The building took on its religious vocation in 1858, when Corconne's inhabitants transformed the remains into a chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, in gratitude for sparing the village from the cholera epidemic of 1854. The walls have been partially rebuilt, the vault restored and roofed. A stained-glass window depicting the Virgin Mary is commissioned from the Louis Pagès workshop. Situated on the route of the Pont du Hasard, it is now a place for hiking and an annual pilgrimage on September 8, the feast of the Virgin's nativity. Today, the building takes the form of a vaulted room, the chapel, extended by the remains of walls. The chapel opens onto a courtyard enclosed by rough-cut walls. The rusticated stonework is reminiscent of many 12th- and 13th-century buildings, including the Château de Beaucaire, the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes and the nearby Tour de Môle in Sauve.

The ruins of the ancient Saint-Pierre d'Aspères church, built in the 9th century by the Benedictine monks of Psalmodi: a thousand-year-old site bearing witness to a rich religious and agricultural past. The ruins of the old Saint-Pierre d'Aspères church, located near the old disused cemetery, bear witness to a rich past. It was probably built by the Benedictines of Psalmodi in the 9th century. This small priory prospered until the 13th century, when it was home to nearly 150 monks. Throughout this period, the monks cleared and cultivated the surrounding land and woods. Associated with the powerful Abbey of Psalmodi, located near Aigues-Mortes, the priory was one of the stops on their trade routes leading to the Cévennes. At its peak, Psalmodi owned numerous estates, but an overly ambitious expansion policy led to its decline. With the secularisation of Psalmodi in 1537, the Benedictine priests were replaced by secular priests. The land was leased out, changing the local economy. The parish was then attached to others, and it was not until 1854 that a new church was built in the village. The old church gradually fell into oblivion after more than a thousand years of history. Did you know? St Pierre d'Aspères is located on one of the trade routes developed by the monks of Psalmodi. These routes were used to distribute the order's produce. Salt, cured meats and, of course, wine were transported here and sold in regions further north.

Comprising two small chapels dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, it is a wonderful example of Romanesque art in all its splendour. Formerly a priory of Psalmodi Abbey, this chapel stands peacefully on the right bank of the Vidourle River. The chapel consists of two distinct parts. The main nave and apse, built in the late 11th or early 12th century, are examples of classic Romanesque style. To the south, a second nave with a polygonal chevet, in late Romanesque style, adds a touch of elegance to the whole. The sculpted capitals, decorated with animal and plant motifs, reflect the sculptor's attachment to the rural world. The walls and chevet of the chapel are decorated with motifs typical of southern Romanesque art, including bands, festoons and cogwheels. The naive sculptures of familiar animals, such as roosters, hens and hares, offer a touching glimpse into medieval rural life. Did you know? The Saint-Julien de Montredon chapel owes its preservation to the mobilisation of the local community. In 1968, an association was formed to save the building from ruin, and thanks to collective efforts and the expertise of architects, this Romanesque gem has been restored to its former glory.
