The GR® de Pays Tour du Revermont offers seven days of hiking on the limestone hills of the Revermont, the foothills of the Jura Massif. It can be shortened thanks to a number of itineraries. The GR® de Pays Tour du Revermont allows you to discover the Revermont, or southern Jura mountains, a transition zone between the Bresse plain and the Bugey. This massif is made up of two mountain ranges, culminating at the Signal de Nivigne (758 m), which frames the Suran valley.

There are 8 interpretation points along this loop. Not only will you be able to get some height, but you'll also be able to discover a range of unspoilt natural environments: the La Balme caves and cliffs, the forest and the dry grasslands. The site is home to a remarkable array of flora and fauna. Keep your eyes peeled! You may be able to spot the red pulsatilla and the Carthusian carnation, which flower in early spring, or the many birds of prey that like to nest in the rock faces of this sensitive natural area.

In the heart of Bugey, this section of the ViaRhôna moves slightly away from the river and heads gently towards the authentic villages, châteaux and vineyards of the Balcons du Rhône region. The River Ain flows into the Rhône at Anthon, where a remarkable natural site marks a sharp contrast with the urban area nearby. Then comes the small village of Jons on the outskirts of Greater Lyon, the Jonage canal and the park, Grand Parc de Miribel-Jonage. There is a temporary section on small roads.

Hike to discover the Ain river gorges. Distance : 25km - Hours : 7 - Slope : 654m From 1st June to 30th September 2015, the Serrières-sur-Ain bridge will be closed for works. The hike can not be followed in totality : the round trip will be necessarly by the same bank.

The GR® de Pays "Tour de la Vallée de l'Ain au Pays du Cerdon" starts on the banks of the Ain, passes through Jujurieux and its thirteen châteaux, then visits the Cerdon wine-growing region. The GR® de Pays "Tour de la Vallée de l'Ain au Pays du Cerdon" offers a wide range of landscapes: banks of the Ain, vineyards, undergrowth, valleys and panoramic views. The route also reveals the region's rich past, with its barns in the vineyards, bread ovens, washhouses, watering places and stone fountains.

A family walk with little difference in altitude. The majority of the walk is in the shade and offers a spectacular view over the valley that joins Ambérieu to Belley. The path runs along the cliff and children need to be supervised. Along the way, you will meet climbers and via-ferratists coming up from the cliff.

Created 30 years ago, the Railwayworker museum proposes to discover the past of Ambérieu en Bugey heritage. With the help of videos, functional life-size models, a switching station, a canteen, a dormitory together with an infirmary, it retraces the life of the “railway people.” We can also admire the uniforms and a very handsome collection of caps…These are all pages from the history of the town, reminding us that the railroad appeared in Ambérieu in 1856 and in its wake a change in the landscape and in village life. These installations are there to awaken buried memories through the work achieved by the museum’s archivists and volunteers.

The occupation of this superb site dates back to the 7th century (funerary chapel). During the time of the Delphino-Savoyard wars (1272-1355). The chateau was among the most important “chatelleries” (lordships) and was behind the commissioning of the chateaux of Saint-Denis and Allymes. These three sites thus formed a line of defence expected to prevent the Savoyards’ expansion to Bresse. For a number of years, the committee to safeguard old St.Germain (Comité de Sauvegarde du Vieux St-Germain), formed in 1996 under the impetus of Armand Decour, has been ensuring the upkeep of the site backed by the support of the town. What remains today of the Medieval chateau are sections of the surrounding wall (including two “false towers”), the wall that separates the upper court from the lower bailey, and a very lovely ogival door.

Perched high up in the hills overlooking Ambérieu-en-Bugey the Château des Allymes has stood guard over the town since the 14th century. The château was built by the Dauphin of Vienne in 1310. It fell into the hands of the Duke of Savoy in 1335 and became part of France again in 1601. The Chateau des Allymes (Allymes Castle) has preserved intact many features of medieval military architecture that defended the territory during the Middle Ages. The Chateau des Allymes is made up of two sections. There is an upper courtyard which is formed by four curtain walls linking the keep (donjon) to the round or watch tower. Secondly there is the outer bailey with the remains of a large fortifying wall and a small watch tower. In 1960 the Château des Allymes was listed as a Historic Monument and was saved from total ruin. It has been open to the public since 1966. The château is managed by the Association des Amis du Château des Allymes (Friends of the Château des Allymes) and today it houses exhibitions, concerts and conferences. Since 1984 the château has officially been the property of the town of Ambérieu-en-Bugey. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the listing of the château, an exhibition room was opened in 2010. It is named in honour of René de Lucinge (1553-1624), Lord of Allymes, who was instrumental in the integration of Ain into France in 1601 with the Treaty of Lyon.

1000 years of history are waiting for you to visit ! The abbey can be visited freely throughout the year and is open daily. There are guided tours available in French and English. Take a dive in History ! Ambronay Abbey was founded in the early 9th century by St Bernard de Romans and was home to a community of Benedictine monks until the French Revolution. The abbey is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with some of its buildings dating between the 11th and 15th centuries. Today the abbey is a centre for early classical and religious music and is well known for its annual baroque music festival which takes place during September and October. During the early Middle Ages, Ambronay Abbey was self-governing, answering only to Rome. From 1282 onwards, it fell under the protection of the Dukes of Savoy. The abbey became involved in the border disputes between the Dukes and the King of France. This resulted in the abbey being heavily fortified. Today one can discover the Dauphine Tower, the Archives Tower, Saint Jacques and Saint Catherine’s Chapel and the cloister which houses a magnificent renaissance staircase. One can also see the chapter room and the sacristy which were central to monastic life. The abbey is home to the Ambronay Cultural Centre which promotes religious and baroque music, with several concerts taking place throughout the year.

The capital of a castellany, Saint Sorlin and its castles became a winegrowing town in the 18th century. The stone houses adorned with rosebushes, the 16th-century fresco depicting St. Christopher and the view of the Rhône River invite you to travel back in time. The village of Saint-Sorlin-en-Bugey and the hamlet of Collonges are now united in a single, charming Bugiste village. As you stroll through the village, you'll come across winegrowers' houses, a sober 12th-century church that has since been remodeled, beautiful 19th-century washhouses, the ruins of the grand château and the château de Cuchet, the château du Molard perched at the end of the village, and the 18th-century château de la Durandière, just below the ViaRhôna. Built on the municipality of Saint-Jean-le-Vieux, in the hamlet of Varey, do not hesitate to discover the Castle of Varey, which bases are medieval. The Château de Varey is located a short distance from the village of Saint-Jean-le-Vieux. There has been a fortification on this site since the 12th century. The magnificent building which can be seen there today dates from the 19th century when the château was completely rebuilt.

Referred to locally as the "diamond of Le Bugey", a picturesque, listed village which has the peculiarity of being built in a circle. Fine view from the cross of Evosges. The Evosges cross, just a few kilometers above, offers a perfect vantage point over the unusual village and the superb valley that surrounds it.

Due to the diversity of monuments and curiosities of the city, such as the XVIIIth century cooler, the two castles and the bucolic garden called "jardin des simples", Vertrieu is an unavoidable milestone in the Balcons du Dauphine territory. Vertrieu owes its development to its location, in a Rhone's hollow, which helped it grow its maritime activity during centuries. Its highly strategical position stands from the High Middle-Age, as the tombs in the Rue des Juifs testify. Vertrieu's architecture in the end of the Middle-Age is as urban, with its narrow lots alongside the streets, as it is rural with outside stairways typical from the winegrowers' houses, and agricultural commercial activity. Wherever, if the Rhone is linked to the town's History, so are the castles called "new" and "old" that shape the landscape. « Le gîte » has been designed to welcome groups. It includes all the equipment you need everyday… It is composed of 2 floors : upstairs, there are 6 rooms of 4 beds, one room of 2 beds (with bunk beds in each room), showers and toilets. Please bring your sleeping bags, pillows and toilet bag. We provide fitted sheets. The cottage of Espace Eau Vive is a friendly and functional accommodation, ideal for sports groups, associations, kayak clubs or families looking for a simple and practical place in nature. With a capacity of 26 beds, it consists of rooms equipped with single bunk beds and common areas designed to facilitate group life. You will find a large fully equipped kitchen, a spacious refectory, a relaxation room (living room), as well as two sanitary blocks. Bed linen is not provided: each participant must bring their own duvet and/or sheets. Located right next to the artificial river, the cottage offers privileged access to whitewater activities, technical internships or multi-activity stays. In order to ensure the comfort of all and preserve the tranquility of the place, the cottage does not host festive events (EVG/EVJF, birthdays, rugby clubs or similar). It is mainly aimed at groups seeking calm, sport and cohesion in a natural setting. Not provided: sponges, dishwashing liquid or dishwasher tablets, dish towels, toilet paper... The cottage is available from 2pm on the day of your arrival and must be vacated before 11am on the day of your departure.

The campsite, certified Accueil Vélo, is located right next to the ViaRhôna cycle route. It is ideal for cycle tourists, kayakers and nature lovers. It offers traditional pitches as well as unique accommodation such as Trapper and Domino tents. Located in the heart of Île de la Serre, between nature and artificial white-water river, Camping de l'Espace Eau Vive is a 2-star campsite designed to accommodate athletes, kayakers and all those who are looking for a simple, authentic stay. Its green environment and friendly atmosphere make it an ideal stop along the ViaRhôna or a perfect starting point for a weekend of sports. The campsite offers 37 pitches, suitable for tents, vans and small motorhomes. A few shaded pitches are available, but the majority are in sunny areas: it is therefore advisable to plan something to protect yourself from the sun. For an unusual stay, 7 atypical accommodations are offered : - 3 Domino tents: At the heart of the white water space site, the 3 domino tents have a capacity of 6 beds each. A dining area with two refrigerators and 2 gas hobs as well as a common tent with tables and benches for meals is available. - 4 Trapper Tents: The trapper area is composed of 4 wooden tents with 6 beds each, a 3m x 3m kitchen tent with two refrigerators, 2 gas hobs as well as a 32m2 common tent with tables and benches for meals. For all tents: Provide pillows, fitted sheets, sleeping bags (only the mattress protector is provided), toilet paper and all kitchen essentials (pots, dishes, cutlery...). There is no heating or lighting in the tents (lighting in the kitchen and meal tents only). The campers have a common toilet block, functional and maintained (toilet paper not provided). At the entrance of the campsite, a sheltered 200 m2 barnum equipped with tables and benches allows to meet, shelter or share meals. The services include: free Wi-Fi, possibility of electric connection 5A for a fee, and a snack bar open in season offering ice creams, cold drinks and hot drinks. There is no catering on site. The campsite particularly appeals to kayakers thanks to its immediate proximity to the artificial river of the Espace Eau Vive. The evening atmosphere is generally calm, with campers mainly coming to train, recharge or attend sports camps.

A simple stopover on the banks of the Albarine to enjoy nature activities or simply relax in the heart of the Bugey region: fishing, canyoning, hiking or just enjoy being a stone's throw away to admire the Charabotte waterfall (110m). Nearby there's a soccer pitch, a playground and a bowling alley. The ideal starting point for hiking trails and thrilling activities in the Albarine Valley. Light housing is available for rent, ideal for fishing enthusiasts or families on vacation.
