Hiking trail "The Causses trail" A small village perched on the remains of the old fortress, Montmurat is strongly influenced by the southern climate, which has given it an extraordinary flora: lily of the valley, boxwood, wild asparagus, vines and orchids. Take the time to stroll through the narrow streets of the village, the Mediterranean influenced architecture is remarkable. From the plateau (after the starting point, access on the D345), this path will also allow you to discover an exceptional 360° panorama of the Lot, Aveyron and Cantal. Hiking trail "des Puys". The village of Calvinet has a rich historical past. The first origins date back to 1250 with Eustache Beaumarchais, bailiff of the Mounts of Auvergne. This easy circuit will allow you to appreciate the traditional architecture and to discover superb views: Château de La Mothe, Aubrac and Aveyron plateaux, Rance Valley and the village of Saint-Antoine. Mountain bike route "In the heart of the chestnut trees". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points for €0.50. A tour that will allow you to appreciate many typical villages in the heart of the Châtaigneraie such as Calvinet, your starting point (at the church) or the ‘chestnut village’, Mourjou. There are superb viewpoints on a very varied route, including the Aubrac plateau, the north of Aveyron and the Rance Valley. Numerous rich and varied panoramas due to a fairly long circuit crossing several different types of landscape (forest, plain, countryside, towns).

The interest of this themed trail, mainly in the undergrowth, lies in the creation of a dozen panels, placed along the route, on the marvellous world of bees and in the panoramas that you will contemplate along the way. The campsite is situated near the Lot river at the border between Cantal and Aveyron. Camping Coursavy is situated on the banks of the Lot, surrounded by wooded hillsides. Thanks to its sheltered location and very low altitude (200 m), the climate is very mild from spring onwards. The campsite has 46 spacious pitches and 4 chalets. All pitches have electricity and a picnic table. It is an ideal starting point for many cycling and walking routes, or for visiting old villages. Saint-Santin is an unusual village. It's hard to imagine driving through it, given its modest size, the fact that it is divided into two communes and straddles two départements and even two regions!

The southernmost river of Cantal is the Lot River. The valley is situated at 200 meters altitude. The weather is mild and shows another facet of the Châtaigneraie. Enjoy the beautiful panoramas (Montmurat, Aubespeyre), discover the history of the medieval castle, go canoeing...

Visit of the medieval fortress of Vieillevie (11th-13th centuries) in July and August. Storytelling tours (in French): Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm. Places are limited, so bookings must be made by text message or e-mail. The castle dominates the Lot Valley from its high towers. It is an authentic defensive fortress: sentry walks, archways, and defensive hoardings. Above the lower rooms carved into the rock, you will discover the large Renaissance rooms with their finely sculpted mullioned windows and their monumental 13th century fireplaces, among the oldest in France.

About 30 species of wild orchids are present on these few hectares which gather a quarter of the French flora and more than half of the Auvergne flora in orchids. The climate of the limestone mounds (former lake basin) located between Saint-Santin-de-Maurs and Montmurat is one of the mildest and driest in Cantal. These conditions give the landscapes, agriculture and natural environments a pronounced southern character. Free access on foot from the village of Saint-Santin-de-Maurs. The animal and plant species living on this Natura 2000 site are protected, so be careful.

Saint-Constant and Fournoulès have been a single commune since 2016. Yet two very different atmospheres prevail: Saint-Constant looks a little like Aveyron, while Fournoulès has a more mountainous atmosphere.

The fortress that once overlooked Calvinet must have been quite a sight. Don't look for it, it was razed to the ground four centuries ago, but the village has retained all its character, and it's easy to guess that it knew glorious times:

L'Auberge de Mourjou, with its restaurant and guest rooms, has been open since 18 March 2024. Daily menu (€19,90) from Monday 12pm to Friday 2pm. Chef Kara Asatryan's menu (€39) is available for lunch and dinner on Saturdays and lunch on Sundays. Booking recommended. The chef's menu consists of a choice of two starters, a choice of two main courses and a choice of two desserts. The menu changes every 2 weeks according to the season and her inspiration. You can also make the most of our shaded terrace in fine weather.

Christophe's inventive cuisine combines the flavours of Auvergne with those of the Mediterranean. Meals are served on a beautiful terrace shaded by an octogenarian wisteria with a view of the swimming pool and the River Lot or in the restaurant room. Innovative cooking with flavors of Auvergne and the Mediteranean. Open from mid-April to early November. In July and August, closed on Monday all day and Tuesday lunchtime. Out of season, closed Sunday evening, Monday and Tuesday.
