From the charming hamlet of Chalmieu, take a step up on this moderately steep loop. You'll discover the beautiful Aiguilles d'Arves, towering above the mountain pastures of the magnificent Montrond plateau. An ideal walk for young and old alike! This loop offers a nice overview of the Montrond plateau, and makes you want to continue hiking higher up, from the TV relay. Situated above the hamlet of Chalmieu, it's ideal for a pleasant family outing in a wild and authentic setting.

Starting from the Relais TV parking lot, take a walk through the alpine pastures of the Plateau de Montrond, frequented by cows and marmots. At the end of the climb, you'll be glad to reach the Croix Aigu to enjoy the view. This intermediate-level hike takes you to a small summit on the magnificent Plateau de Montrond. The itinerary is wild and accessible to a wide range of hikers. All along the way, you'll have a magnificent view of the Aiguilles d'Arves. There are three of them: Aiguille Septentrionale, Aiguille Centrale and Aiguille Méridionale on the right. And don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for marmots.

You can already see them in the parking lot... The Aiguilles d'Arves are beckoning you. Answer their call and come and see them up close! As you walk across this beautiful alpine plateau, you may come across their inhabitants, such as marmots, chamois and cows. This hike offers magnificent scenery and a rich history around the plateau and alpine pastures. The gradual ascent allows groups of varying levels to hike together. Along the way, discover the orientation table and spot the Aiguille Septentrionale, which looks like a cat's head. On the way back, cross the alpine pasture where you may see marmots. You'll also be walking on the remains of an ancient glacier beneath the Aiguille de l'Épaisseur. Come and lose yourself on this beautiful plateau!

Round a bend in the path, past the second footbridge, you'll come to them... those funny columns topped with hats. They are the Demoiselles de la Saussaz! Also known as fairy chimneys, they often give rise to legends... Fairy chimneys are natural rock columns. These columns, with their sometimes strange and evocative shapes (giving rise to numerous legends), are created by various erosion phenomena, and can reach several dozen meters in height. Along the way, you'll come across some curious wooden creatures. They are the work of sculptor Sébastien Bizel-Bizzelot, who lives nearby. Take a look at the window of his workshop "Les roses de bois" on your way out... And not far from these fairy chimneys flows the Saussaz torrent, with its many bathing spots. On the way back from your walk, you can stop at the edge of this torrent, next to the climbing school.

This easy-going walk is accessible to all-comers, taking you to the heart of the Montrond plateau, in alpine pastures and amongst abandoned mountain chalets that were once inhabited during the summer months, at the foot of the Aiguilles d'Arves known as "the majestics". From the Relais TV PRM parking lot (above the village of Chalmieu, a hamlet of Albiez), this walk offers breathtaking panoramic views of the majestic Aiguilles d'Arves, and invites you to discover the testimonies of local people. Whether shepherds, farmers, mountaineers, guides or storytellers, they'll share their tales of yesterday and today, and above all their love of the plateau. In the midst of the remains of alpine chalets, sound benches and symbolic objects tell you all about this land of legends and oral tradition, with great sensitivity. Disabled people and senior citizens with special needs are allowed to park in the second parking lot (access strictly reserved for these users).

At the foot of the Aiguilles d'Arves starts 1200d - of happiness. First in alpine pastures then in forest, this route promises to be rich in sensations. Between speed and more technical passages, this descent promises to be memorable. This itinerary covers 1200m of negative altitude difference, from the TV relay station at the foot of the Aiguilles d'Arves to the former Opinel factory in Gevoudaz. This enduro circuit is rich and complete. At the beginning, don't hesitate to let go of the brakes. The alpine trails are ideal for picking up speed. Then you'll find more technical sections with a number of hairpins and banked bends. So don't hesitate, and come and test yourself against these 1200m of negative vertical drop!

The Col d'Arves is an historical passage at 1748 meters of altitude, frequently taken before the construction of the D926 in 1894. At the summit : Baroque cross and viewpoint on Saint Jean de Maurienne, Villarembert, Fontcouverte et Jarrier. This bell tower soars upwards towards the Aiguilles d'Arves, guiding you towards a treasure of the Maurienne Baroque. The 17th century church of Montrond, with the famous Aiguilles d'Arves in the background, is certainly one of the most photographed sites in the Maurienne. It was restored at the end of the 1990s. Completely rebuilt in 1674, Saint Nicolas Church has a single nave with a cupola over the choir. The recently restored statues from the rood beam have been hung in the choir. Borrelin and Symond made the main altarpiece in a single piece, and Solomonic columns frame a painting by Dufour (1690) representing the Virgin, Saint Nicholas and Saint Barthelemy. The Rosary altarpiece has fifteen medallions including a 17th century painting of Mary, St Dominic and St Catherine of Siena. This chapel is located in the Cruet hamlet, within walking distance of the Corbier resort centre. It cannot be visited, but you can still see it from the outside. 1627: Foundation and construction of the Chapelle du Cruet, which was renamed Notre-Dame de la Consolation, then Notre-Dame de la Pitié in 1771, to take on its current name of Sainte Philomène. In 1630, a plague epidemic. In 1759: 20 families lived in Cruet, i.e. 60 inhabitants. 1876: Fire. Only 2 houses were spared. 1881: Another fire. Inside the chapel, there is a 17th century tithe chest used to pay the tithe, a tax established for the benefit of the Catholic Church and officially recognised in 779, under Charlemagne. The tithe was levied on crops and livestock. All property, whether that of nobles, commoners or even the personal property of ecclesiastics, was subject to tithing. Collection of the tithe was entrusted to a farmer. As a general rule, 1/4 of the tithe went to the bishopric and the remaining 3/4 to the parish. Peasants had to "offer" a tenth of their harvest, while artisans had to "offer" a tenth of their production. The tabernacle was dug into the wall of the chapel. Outside, the font.

Relic of the neolithic era, this place is visible from the Foncouverte plaza. At the slope located near La Chapelle des Villards, you can see a semi-circle consisting of twelve big free standing and semi-buried stones. As it is facing south, this magnificent monument is said to be used as a calendar or a sundial.

The chapel and its surroundings are a good example of the mountain environment. The chapel was first known as the St Roch chapel. Built in a non-decent manner in 1600, it was rebuilt in 1661. Renovated in 1787, 2 years later £67 were spent to plug holes, bleach the chapel inside and build four columns outside to prevent from disrepair. Nevertheless, 60 years later despite all the care, the chapel was falling into ruins. Therefore, a decision was taken to build a new chapel. Everyone participated in its construction depending on their own means. The chapel was achieved, though, due to financial problems less than 6 years later on September 1851. It was then inaugurated on October 20th, 1851. Nowadays, the chapel is in a very bad state and its conservation is crucial to keep this wonderful Savoy landscape alive.

Unusual bed and breakfast close to the "Aiguilles d'Arves". Snack possible. In Saint Jean d'Arves, at 2150m of altitude, it is an old family chalet used by the grand parents' owner, in summer, to leave the cows in the pastures and make hay. The chalet has been undergoing renovation since the summer of 2016 and is accessible walking from Entraigues (Saint Jean d'Arves) in about 3 hours (900 meters of elevation over 7km) or from Le Chalmieu (Albiez-Montrond) walking by the Basse du Gerbier. The chalet is equipped with spring water and has electricity by solar panels. Dry toilets and water point nearby. Inside, on the ground floor, a kitchen, a large living room, a bathroom (under construction) and the owner's bedroom. Upstairs there is the dormitory with 10 places. These are "baflants" (one big bed for evrey guest) with mattresses next to each other, fitted with bed sheets, duvet cushions and blankets Obligation to have sleeping bags. (blanket prohibited due to bed fleas). Outside, a terrace to enjoy the sunset over the Belledonne massif on one side and Les Aiguilles d'Arves on the other.

Chalet d'la Croë offers you a unique experience: sleeping in a tent at the foot of the Aiguilles d'Arves. There are 2 possibilities: - rent a pitch on your own and bring your own equipment - occupy one of the 3 fully-equipped tents (mattress and comforter) Mountain guide Virginie welcomes you to her summer garden at Chalet d'la Croë*, where you can spend cool, unusual nights camping at the foot of the Aiguilles d'Arves. There are two ways to do this: - rent a single pitch and bring your own camping equipment - rent a pitch with your own tent, mattress, comforter and blankets. Beware: at 2000 m altitude, nights are chilly. On-site chickens, goats, dogs and sometimes cows! There's a toilet block outside, as well as dry toilets and a drinking water point. Crocs are also available. To save water, showers are only available for two-day stays. Le Lys Martagon is a spacious, renovated stopover gîte in an atypical house in Albiez-le-Jeune, a small mountain village. Summer: You are entering the land of the marmots! Look up to see the large birds of prey (eagles, vultures). Easy access on foot in 2 hours from the Col de la Croix de Fer. Access by mountain bike. Bikes can be recharged at the refuge. Capacity during the guard stage: 70 spaces. 10 dormitories with 4 to 10 spaces. Continuous catering during the guard stage. Overlooked by the Aiguilles d'Arves, the Aiguille de l'Epaisseur and the Aiguille d'Argentière, the refuge is set amidst high-altitude meadows at 2260m. In winter, access is difficult and subject to avalanche risk. Go accompanied by a guide.

The mountain hut is located in the heart of an alpine area particularly conducive for hiking during Summer as well as Winter. It also provides an ideal stopover on the GR54 from the well known Tour de l'Oisans. The winter shelter open for 6 people, wood, gas, dishes, blanket. Welcome to "chez Polyte" (nickname of the last inhabitant of the area). The Pic du Mas de la Grave refuge is built on the ruins of the Baraques des Salomons. It is located in the commune of La Grave, 6 km/1h30 from the hamlet of Le Chazelet, at the bottom of the La Buffe valley, facing the majestic north face of the Meije (3983 m). The refuge is the ideal stopover for climbing the Mas de la Grave peak, an "easy 3000" with a magnificent 360° panorama of the Écrins, Aiguilles d'Arves, Grandes Rousses, Savoie and Mont Blanc. It also offers access to the Emparis plateau and its lakes, and crossings between the plateau and the Goléon. We'll be delighted to welcome you for lunch and dinner, and offer cosy accommodation in small dormitories sleeping four to six. We can also advise you on suitable itineraries, depending on weather conditions and your interests. South-facing terrace with exceptional panoramic views, games, books, pétanque, musical instruments (piano and guitar), Finnish sauna... Ideal for relaxing after a hard day's work. The accessible refuge du Goléon awaits you summer and winter alike, in an exceptional setting between lake and Meije. The wardens warmly welcome you to spend the night or grab a bite to eat in this little refuge of character. The hut keepers, Myrtille and Lucile, welcome you, with a big smile, to the hut located near Goléon Lake, facing La Meije. Nestled in the Goléon valley, near the lake (200 meters) and facing La Meije, the Goléon hut welcomes you in an exceptional setting. Made of stone and wood, this building, built in 2009 by its owner will seduce you with its rustic beauty. In summer the place is ideal to spend a night with family or friends in a warm and authentic mountain hut. In winter, the valley lends itself perfectly to ski touring. Don't hesitate to stay several nights to explore the hidden corners of this beautiful valley. Drinks and lunch à la carte, half-board or dinner, breakfast only (booking in advance is required). They cook as much as possible with local, seasonal and organic products. Fishing (in authorized period) : in the lake of Goléon is possible. The lake is stocked with brook & brown trouts by the fishing federation. The lake is classified 1st category. Fishing will be open from the 3rd Saturday of June to the 2nd Sunday of October.
