In the 9th century, a chapel was built on a motte castrale, which was replaced by a church in the 11th century. It was then fortified until the 17th century. The bell tower was thus transformed into a hoarding. In 1649, Monsieur de Pompadour, the King's Lieutenant in Limousin, ordered the destruction of the fortifications to punish the Seigneur de Chéronnac, one of the heroes of the Fronde. The church door features an attractive 13th-century lock. The building is also home to a 15th-century mural depicting a funeral tablet bearing the coat of arms of Monsieur de Rouziers, Seigneur de Chéronnac.

Situated on the banks of the Tardoire, the Peyrassoulat site, classified as a ZNIEFF, boasts exceptional flora: two enormous plane trees spread their branches over a width of some forty meters, and four yew trees have been present on the site for over 500 years. If you pass through the village of Montoume, you will be struck by the color of the stone of the houses. This red rock is in fact an impactite formed when a meteorite fell some 200 million years ago.

On the banks of the Tardoire, in the Peyrassoulat area, there are hidden treasures. The Peyrassoulat site is classified as a Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest, thanks to 3 western hybrid plane trees, an eastern plane tree and 4 yew trees whose branches form a remarkable canopy of vegetation. One of the plane trees is classified, with a 40 m span and 6 m circumference.

This bridge over the Tardoire dates back to the 17th century. It was located near a mill that no longer exists. It carried the old road leading from Rochechouart to Saint-Mathieu. It consists of two slightly lowered round arches, built in flat stone, resting on a central pier preceded by a triangular forecourt built in large-scale stonework. This bridge had parapets, of which a few traces remain.

Vayres has been occupied since prehistoric times (Puybosse, Merlis), then during the Gallo-Roman period (Chalat) and the feudal period (motte de Merlis). The church of Saint Jean was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century, replacing the churches of Saint Georges and Saint Pierre. This medieval castle from the 12th and 15th centuries, now in ruins, is located in the heart of the village of Lavauguyon. The castle, built on a slope, dominates the Tardoire in a remarkable setting. The interior of the château comprised two vast main buildings and a large chapel. Abandoned in the 18th century, it was dismantled during the French Revolution of 1789. From the outside, you can see the remains of the square porch keep and the curtain walls of the main enclosure, flanked by four corner towers and surrounded by fairly well-preserved moats. This site is maintained and preserved by the commune of Maisonnais-sur-Tardoire and the association "Les amis de Lavauguyon". The association regularly hosts volunteer workcamps, and offers introductory workshops in masonry and stonemasonry for the general public.
