Circuit de la Serpentine

A l'origine, les voies romaines n'étaient pas pavées mais constituées de pierres et de gravillons. Leurs profils bombés sont, par contre, caractéristiques. C'est au Moyen Age que l'augmentation du trafic a imposé des mesures pour éviter leurs détériorations. La plupart des franchissements des petits cours d'eau se faisant à gué, il a fallu aussi construire (et reconstruire) des ponts, comme c'est le cas sur ce parcours : le pont Mijéraud actuel date des XVIIIème et XIXème siècles.

Les clédiers font partie du patrimoine bâti du Limousin : ils étaient utilisés pour le séchage des châtaignes, base de l’alimentation en milieu rural.

La serpentine : Une roche particulière. La serpentine est une roche noire souvent zébrée de vert, relique du fond d'un océan disparu il y a 350 millions d'années et riche en métaux lourds. Sur ces sols très basiques et secs, s'installe une végétation particulière, comme la fougère. Capillaire des murailles.

On the banks of the Tardoire, in the Peyrassoulat area, there are hidden treasures. The Peyrassoulat site is classified as a Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest, thanks to 3 western hybrid plane trees, an eastern plane tree and 4 yew trees whose branches form a remarkable canopy of vegetation. One of the plane trees is classified, with a 40 m span and 6 m circumference.

Vayres has been occupied since prehistoric times (Puybosse, Merlis), then during the Gallo-Roman period (Chalat) and the feudal period (motte de Merlis). The church of Saint Jean was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century, replacing the churches of Saint Georges and Saint Pierre.
