Description

Chéronnac is located in the Périgord-Limousin Natural Park. The Charente river rises here, hence the village?s ancient name: Carentenago. The church is built on the site of a chapel, itself built on a motte castrale. The church was fortified until La Fronde. Not to be missed: the 13th-century portal and latch, and a 17th-century funerary liter painted with the Rousiers coat of arms.
Situated on the banks of the Tardoire, the Peyrassoulat site, classified as a ZNIEFF, boasts exceptional flora: two enormous plane trees spread their branches over a width of some forty meters, and four yew trees have been present on the site for over 500 years.
If you pass through the village of Montoume, you will be struck by the color of the stone of the houses. This red rock is in fact an impactite formed when a meteorite fell some 200 million years ago.
