A visit to this remarkably restored English bastide is a must, from its central square to the Escoubet and English fountains, via the shady banks of the Canal.

This route is designed for beginners, both for its low relief and its relatively modest distance. It links the Garonne to its canal through a cereal-growing and arboricultural plain. A single climb takes in the valley, the hills of the Landes de Gascogne and the nearby forest. In 1259, the Count of Poitiers decided to build a fortified town in Damazan. It is surrounded by a rampart and numerous turrets. Its four gates mark the direction of the four cardinal points. Today, it enchants visitors with its colorful facades!

In Gascon, this toponym means the end of the wood. This trail overlooking the Garonne valley leaves the vineyards to enter the moors. It alternates between panoramas and the muffled atmosphere of the forest.

Saint-Pierre-de-Buzet has a well-preserved Romanesque church with few alterations. From this rural sanctuary, one reaches the vineyards and then the forest where the pines sometimes mix with a Mediterranean species, the holm oak.

Buzet is spread out over the wide plain where the Baïse meets the Garonne. The castle, seen from different angles along the route, crowns the first hillside that marks the boundary of the valley: it reigns over the vines and woods of the commune. The hillsides are home to great vineyards, including that of Buzet, whose red wine has been classified A.O.C. since 1973. Planted on 2000 well exposed hectares, the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grape varieties are the guarantee of quality wines with character. The cooperative cellar of the Vignerons de Buzet is the showcase. You can discover it during this tour. You can visit the vine and wine museum and the 4000-barrel ageing cellar and enjoy a wine tasting.

The port of Buzet is at the crossroads of river navigation in Lot-et-Garonne. A double lock allows you to pass from the canal to the Baïse. Going down the river, you reach the river and then very quickly, the Lot.

Here, the Canal Latéral runs alongside the Baïse. It crosses the river on a three-arched bridge-canal. A double lock allows the boats which circulate there to go down towards it and to gain the Port of Buzet.

Puch means "small eminence". From there you can see the landscapes of the valley and the hillsides of the Garonne. The green dominates: tobacco, corn, meadows and woods on the steep slopes.

Starting from the bastide of Aiguillon, squeezed between the Garonne and its tributary, this loop allows a soft start in the plain of the Lot, via Lagarrigue, Bourran and the church of Colleignes. After Téoulès and the valley of Chautard, the circuit rises gradually towards the old windmill of Paillères. The second ascent leads to Galapian, a small village clinging to the hillside on the Lot side. The crossing of the plateau offers a panoramic view on the two valleys. The tour then turns towards the plain of the Garonne and Port-Sainte-Marie (crossroads of ancient Roman roads and ancient port).

The GR® 654 crosses France from Vézelay in Burgundy. It crosses the Lot-et-Garonne from north to south for almost 150 km, from the plum trees of the Haut-Agenais to the sands of the Landes de Gascogne, passing through the Lot and Garonne valleys.

Measuring 75 m², it features a well-equipped kitchen opening onto the dining room, a living room with TV, two bedrooms (ch1 : 1 bed 140, ch2 : 2 beds 90x200 convertible into a king-size bed) and a bathroom with bathtub. For a cozy winter, the gîte is heated by a central pellet stove. Outside, you'll find a partially covered terrace with garden furniture and barbecue, as well as a 1000 m² private garden. A 13th-century bastide that has retained all the charm of its medieval arcaded houses and Château Comtal, Damazan will dazzle you with the shimmering colors of its facades. While legend has it that the village took its name from a comparison with the beauty of Damascus, its exoticism is embodied by its link with the British. The fountain of the English, its washhouse and its proximity to the Canal Latéral à la Garonne make it an ideal place to recharge your batteries. This is the oldest half-timbered house in Damazan, dating from the 15th century. It comprises a first floor with a store and a second floor with exposed beams and braces. The entire first floor is trimmed with wooden braces. The windows have molded surrounds and some have mullions. The second floor is also overhanging, with herringbone or lattice woodwork.

Originally a fortress, the "Château-Comtal" became the mansion of a Damazan family in the 17th century. The building was modified again in 1864, and the stone lintel of the portal, dated 1681, was moved. Unfortunately, most of the French-style painted ceilings were destroyed shortly after the tobacco store (which had been housed here since 1832) burned down in 1989. Today, the building is still undergoing restoration and, although not open to visitors as such, is a remarkable architectural landmark!

To the south and outside the walls, the "Fontaine des Anglais", whose construction date is unknown, was rebuilt in 1731 and restored in 1998 by the Association des Amis de Château-Comtal. It successively fed a wash-house, a drinking trough and a basin (not yet cleared) where horses were washed. In 1998, paving repairs enabled the Bastide well to be re-established.

The Damazan multi-purpose hall is the ideal venue for your private and professional events. With a surface area of 429 m² and a 61 m² stage, the hall can accommodate up to 245 spectators for a show, or 280 people for a meal. It is equipped with 49 6-seater tables and 240 chairs, allowing different configurations to be adapted to your needs.

The canal runs 87 km through the Lot-et-Garonne region, shaded by century-old plane trees. Never troubled by the risk of flooding or drought, it winds its way through the wine-growing hills of Marmandais and Buzet, orchards and sunflower fields. In Agen, it spans the Garonne on the famous canal bridge, 540 meters long and with 23 arches. Numerous stopping points and river bases. Thanks to the Voie Verte along its banks, it's a great opportunity to combine the pleasures of navigation with those of discovery by bike. Boaters, touring cyclists and walkers can all enjoy a friendly get-together! In the Confluent and Coteaux de Prayssas area, the canal passes through Damazan, where you can recharge your batteries at the nautical stopover, and Puch-d'Agenais, where you can watch the boats at the Écluse du Berry.

The 8 hectare Lac de Damazan is a fishing lake. Jet 47 Location also hire out jet skis. Swimming is not permitted in the lake.

Situated in the heart of Lot-et-Garonne, the Damazan family farm lives to the rhythm of the seasons by growing its fresh fruit and vegetables on its 10 hectares of land. "Strawberries and Company" practices sustainable agriculture and does everything possible to respect the environment and the produce by growing only seasonal produce. We have made strawberries our speciality (Gariguette, Ciflorette, Cléry, Charlotte and Mara des Bois) but "Fraises et Compagnie" is also a wide variety of fruits and vegetables!

The infrastructure consists of 2 ski lifts, a two pulley lift and a 5 pulley lift. The 2 pulley lift, for a return trip in a straight line, is perfect for beginners to make their first steps and discvover the joys of water skiing under close supervision and with an adjustable speed. The 5 pulley lift, which completes a loop at a constant speed of 30km/h, is equipped with different modules allowing the more advanced skiers to try figures and glide, a good way to perfect technique and style.
