This 208km riding route links the Bay of Veys (Géfosse-Fontenay) with Falaise. The route runs partly along the road that was taken on horseback by William the Conqueror in 1047, as he galloped his way in just one day from Valognes to Falaise. This riding route takes you past many sites to discover, across the landscapes of the Bessin and the D-Day Landing beaches, the hollow paths of the Normandy bocage and the picturesque Suisse Normande area, to finally arrive at Falaise Castle. Discovering the nature of the Bessin through the Isigny marshes and then its history by going up to the German cemetery of La Cambe will allow you to appreciate the diversity of this territory The loop is marked in both directions by the red dot bearing the number 11.

From the town of Longueville which overlooks the marshes of the Aure, discover Canchy and walk in the heart of the marshes of the Aure. During your walk you will be able to observe the numerous hydraulic works that regulate the water level in the marshes and cross all the watercourses that meander and shape this landscape.

A 15 km stage with sandy paths, earth tracks and asphalt roads on the way to the famous town of Sainte-Mère-Église. Starting at the Musée du Débarquement, follow the departmental road along the sea, then head off towards the dunes. A stop at the shop “Aux Viviers d’Utah Beach” is a must, to try or take away some of the special Utah Beach oysters. Farmed on the foreshore, they have a delicious characteristic flavour. The company also farms bouchot mussels, which you can see on the stakes in the bay. After this tasting session, head back to the coastal path; from there you have a striking view of the first beach stormed by the Allies on 6 June 1944. Today, this 5 km long beach is a top spot for sand yachting. If you fancy having a go at this exhilarating activity, contact Utah Mer Loisirs. Once you get to the Leclerc monument, it’s time to head away from the coast and follow more stable paths through wetland landscapes. This monument commemorates the Allied landings of 6 June, but also the landing of the French 2nd Armoured Division commanded by General Leclerc on 1 August 1944. You can see a Sherman tank, a light armoured vehicle, a half track and the n°1 marker of the Route of the 2nd Armoured Division. Next, leave the memorial behind you as you head towards Saint-Martin-de-Varreville then Turqueville. The spire of the church in Sainte-Mère-Église can be seen in the distance, meaning your destination is close by. To finish this day of walking, head to the brewery in Sainte-Mère-Église and choose from blonde, brown, red, white, or IPA ales, as you sit comfortably in the pub and watch the brewers at work behind the window.

Grandcamp-Maisy is one of the largest fishing ports on the Normandy coast, with no less than 45 boats. Every day, the fishing boats bring home a vast selection of fish and shellfish, including saltwater clams, whelks, sole, plaice and pollack. However, Grandcamp’s greatest star is, without a doubt, the scallop! Every morning, head for Grandcamp-Maisy’s covered fish market and choose your own fish, fresh from the day’s catch!

Commandant Philippe Kieffer will be remembered for his key role in the Normandy Landings. At the head of a 177-strong commando unit, the only French soldiers to take part in the D-Day landings (1st Battalion of Fusiliers Marins Commandos, later to become the famous Bérets Verts), he landed on Sword Beach, at Colleville-Montgomery. Despite significant losses, he reached his objective, albeit wounded, and was instrumental in the liberation of Ouistreham. After the war, the Lieutenant-Commander settled in Grandcamp-Maisy. He became a general councillor and then a member of parliament in 1946. He lies facing the sea in the Grandcamp-Maisy cemetery.

Buried for 60 years, this German battery was an integral part of a military zone, used for opening fire on Allied troops across the beaches of Utah and Omaha. The final assault of the 5th and 2nd Battalion of American Rangers on 9 June 1944 lasted 5 long hours. Visitors can explore 3 km of trenches, as well as tunnels, 6 155mm artillery platforms, and other underground constructions now open to the public. Visits take 40 to 60 minutes. From growing to maturing, Eric will reveal all the secrets of the oyster farming cycle, taking you to the foreshore and then to one of the oyster workshops. There, you'll learn the subtle art of opening oysters and, to reward you for all your efforts, you'll be able to taste them. Bring a windbreaker and waterproof shoes. Continuing the family farming tradition, Simon Lemarie has been developing since 2015 a production of ciders and spirits made with the apples of his orchards. The farm is entirely managed in Organic Agriculture and is composed of 4 Hectares of thirty year old trees and 8 Hectares of trees planted since 2015, that is to say a total of 5000 trees! The apples used to make the ciders are all old and local varieties. The flagship product of the range is the Cidricchus Original, a cider with a balance between brut and demi-sec.

In the early 20th century, the Café de la Marine was already a meeting place for villagers. The café still exists, but has now become the Brasserie de La Marine. Neighbor of our center "Les Aigues-Marines", the center of "Quiéri-Quiérettes", ideally located in front of the sea, has activity rooms and a terrace facing the sea.
