Exploring a must-see site on the Millevaches plateau: the Gallo-Roman remains at Les CarsThis path starts in the granite village of Pérols and leads us to one of the most iconic sites of the Millevaches Plateau: The site of Les Cars. These remains are only one of the many places offering evidence of the life of the Plateau in the Gallo-Roman period. One after another, you will pass through hamlets steeped in history: from Ars and its rural heritage (bridge, bread oven, cross...) to Variéras with its thatched cottages, symbolising the renewal and creativity of the Plateau.

This path leads to the emblematic site of Les Cars. These remains are only one of the many testimonies of the development of the area in the Gallo-Roman period. You will also pass through hamlets steeped in history: in contrast to Ars and its rich heritage (bridge, bread oven, cross, etc.), the thatched cottages of Variéras symbolise the revival and creativity of the Plateau (these buildings cannot be visited).

"Millevaches, Pays des Mille Sources" had many mills. If the current landscape is marked by meadows and forest, cereals were once essential. The particularity of Razel is to have three mills on the same site: while the inhabitants of Razel and Chaumeil built the collective mill in the centre, two wealthier families built the other two.

Saddle up and discover the many sights around Pérols-sur-Vézère with this 20km 100km circuit. The circuit is not particularly difficult and you will be able to enjoy this beautiful cycling trip to the full. From Pérols-sur-Vézère, you head for a village of Gallic indomitability: the village of Variéras. A charming little hamlet with 70 houses, its particularity is its thatched houses, just like the villages of our ancestors. You take the road again in the direction of Saint-Merd-les-Oussines. Enjoy a short diversions to its pond with numerous water lilies. On the way back to Pérols-sur-Vézère, the site of Les Cars is less than 100 metres from your path, the most remarkable Gallo-Roman site in the Limousin dating from the 2nd century AD.

Discover the mills and village of Razel along the Chemin du Meunier. With more than 1,000 kilometres of signposted circuits starting from 17 communes, the Espace VTT Haute-Corrèze is the largest FFCT labelled network in France. The 50 circuits, which are either family-friendly or reserved for experienced riders, range in length from 4 to 51 km with gradients from 10 to over 1000 metres. In the village, take the road going up on the right.At the last house, turn left on a track that crosses a meadow crosses a stream and reaches the village of Coulournat. Go through the village.Join the departmental road, which you follow on the right for 50 m, then take the track which rises on the left. On the flat, where the tracks meet in a Y, turn left. Before reaching the level of the pastures, follow the track on the left in the fir trees which joins a road.Turn right to go to Ambiaud. Turn right in front of the barn at the end of the village and follow the track to the stream. Leave the track to take a path on the left. At the next crossroads, turn left onto a small trail that fords a stream. Continue on to find a path again. Further on, to the right, a footbridge crosses the Rochers stream again. The path rises above the stream. Turn left at the next crossroads and then right at the rocks to reach Le Massoutre.Go through the village, and go over the bridge. Take the road to the left and then go left again at the end of the village. Follow the path straight ahead. At the bridge, turn right and then left to go through the housing development. Follow the track that overlooks the railway to get back to the starting point.

This gîte entirely created by the owners, from the walls to the roof structure, required 3 years of work. From felling to sawing and drying the wood for the joinery and carpentry. Located on the Millevaches plateau, the three Razel flour mills are unique in that they are all on the same site. Possibly dating from the Carolingian period, this bridge was used by the rural road from Varieras to Pérols sur Vézère. It features a single low arch, three water passages on the left side and a small forebay made of cut granite blocks. It is used by several hiking trails.

Located in the heart of the valley, the Petite Vézère floods the ponds of the fish farm built in the 70s. Salmonid production: rainbow trout, brook trout and Farios, smoked trout. Built in the 12th century and modified in the 14th, the early church comprised a rectangular choir with flat chevet, a nave with two square bays and a small portal on the south façade. In the 14th century, the choir and the first bay of the nave were rib-vaulted. A small seigniorial chapel was added to the south, and a gabled bell tower was erected on the west façade.

It is located in the village of Barsanges. Very simple 12th-century portal, two-bay bell tower-wall. Inside, a remarkable Gallo-Roman vat from the Les Cars site has been reused as a baptismal font. A scene of deer and wild boar hunting can be seen around the perimeter.

Built on the site of a Romanesque church dating back to the 12th century, Bugeat's church was constructed between the 14th and 15th centuries. It features a wide bell tower with a small crested turret, a slate roof, a massive base and low supporting walls. It is dedicated to Saint-Pardoux, then Bishop of Guéret. The building features a pentagonal choir, a transept and a 12th-century granite baptismal font, all of which are classified as historic monuments. Also worth seeing are the magnificent stained-glass windows donated to the Bugeat commune

Next to the church, Fly Freeman's granite fountain "Naissance", created in 2001, symbolizes fertility.

The Gallo-Roman remains of Les Cars are composed of two funerary buildings and a huge dwelling located 200 m. below. The presence, in the heart of an agricultural estate, of an impressive villa owned by a landowner linked to two private mausoleums, dating from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD, is a hypothesis that remains to be confirmed. This site, famous for its monolithic granite tank, is open all year round.

The Les Cars archaeological site is one of the most remarkable ancient sites in the Limousin. Between moorland and forest, on the Plateau de Millevaches, a villa and two temple tombs tell the story of a history that goes back almost 2,000 years. The identity of the owners is unknown. But is that the most important thing? Here, for example, the site is undefended and inordinately luxurious: surprising, isn't it? Probably a sign of a long period of peace and wealth? There are surprises for everyone, young and old, history buffs, those curious about construction techniques, agriculture, water management, religious rites, heritage, enigmas? and even hygiene! So, throughout the visit, the Les Cars site tells us almost as much about ourselves as it does about the Roman imperial period.

The establishment was opened in July 2021 by Marty, Esteban and Bastien with the idea of making it a place of life and conviviality with the will to put in the center of the project the local products. The main products are mainly meats (beef, veal, lamb, pork etc?), cooked on a wood fire. The meats are grilled on a "Kamado" type barbecue. Concerts and theme nights are regularly organized.
