Section A10 of the GR2013. From Ranquet beach south of Istres to Port des Heures Claires (Istres). A 3.2km route to discover the coastal path along the Etang de Berre, with its beaches and creeks. This route runs along the sea of Leo by the coastal path to then reach Istres and discover the pond of the Olivier. Beaches, coves, cafes, restaurants and small ports will scroll over the trail.

The Parc de Figuerolles Mediterranean gardens are located on the site of the former Sunhary de Verville family estate. The plantations are organised in 6 gardens, grouped by their resistance to drought. The site of about 2 hectares includes almost 300 plant species representative of flora adapted to the Mediterranean climate, as well as 27 native plant species such as Aleppo pine and evergreen oak, and other species introduced by the Sunhary de Verville family including yucca, crepe myrtle and oleander. Rural houses and other buildings built by farmers, which featured on the land registry from 1817, can still be seen in the park. The houses were used by the owners and/or in some cases for the larger houses, their farming staff. The largest stretches over 3 plots. It had a surface area of 279 m2. It is the large farm that belonged to the Marine Captain Ytier in 1817.

A 12.3km route to discover the Etang de Berre, then the Etang de l'Olivier and the hill of Saint-Etienne, with panoramic views of the surrounding massifs. Section A07 of the GR2013. From Gare de Croix Sainte (Martigues) to Port de Bouc. A 3.7km route to discover a natural and industrial landscape. The border between the two districts, Martigues and Port de Bouc is marked by the Rivière de la Gafette which is the official border between the two cities. Note: the expansive industrial wasteland of the former Azur Chimie factory, a bromine treatment site, which closed in 2010.

This is stage 03 of the itinerary "In the footsteps of Marie-Madeleine" dedicated to Sainte-Marie-Madeleine. The circuit will make you travel to discover the religious heritage of Martigues. Departing from the town of Fos-sur-Mer, you'll be near its canal lounge and will follow the canal to Port-de-Bouc. Charmed by the gentleness of the South of France, it's the perfect place to take a break on the beaches you'll pass. You'll also follow part of the GR®2013 hiking trail to reach Martigues. You'll be captivated by the Provençal beauty of this town perched on the water. The In the Footsteps of Mary Magdalene trail takes you north of Martigues. You'll cross the Grand Parc de Figuerolles to enter the Martigues region. You'll follow the banks of the Étang de Berre to reach the town center. Discover the ruins of Figuerolles, Figuerolles Beach, the Cercle de Voile (CVM) water sports center, and then the archaeological site of Tholon and its washhouse. Following the marked trail, you will pass through the Jardin de la Rode, the Jardin de Ferrières, and then the Place des Aires. You will then be in the city center of Martigues. If you feel like it, you can deviate from the trail before entering the gardens and climb the hill to the Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Marins. It offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city. From the Place des Aires, cross one of Martigues' two blue bridges to reach the Ile district. Walk along the edge of the pond to cross the drawbridge and stop in the Jonquières district, which is the end point of this third stage of the In the Footsteps of Mary Magdalene in Provence trail. Here too, you can deviate from the recommended route to enter the Ile district and discover Martigues' most popular tourist attractions: the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene, the Miroir aux Oiseaux, the canals, and the colorful facades of Martigues. Marie-Madeleine's journey continues with stage 4 which takes over from the town centre of Martigues, heading towards Carry-le-Rouet.

That the entrance to Martigues began at the intersection of Avenue Frédérique Mistral and that part of the Jonquières district was nothing but marshland? Our house is located in a green valley on the edge of the Etoile massif north of the city. The site is particularly cool, calm and quiet. The soap factory opens the doors to its workshops and museum dedicated to Marseille soap. Marina with over 200 moorings on the west side of the Etang de Berre. Facing east and backing onto the Heures Claires plateau, this site is home to a nautical base for sailing and windsurfing on the vast Etang de Berre. The educational farm gives children a chance to learn about nature and the animals that make up a Provencal farm. Local staff are on hand to provide further information. The Roches Blanches Park is a peaceful place for relaxation and fun for locals and tourists. It is an integral part of the town’s history as evidenced by the fossilized oyster beds in the eastern part of the park. Dating from around 15 million years ago (Miocene), according to some, these oysters gave the town its name, ‘Ostreion’ designating a bed of oysters in Greek. These oyster beds show that this park was under an immense sea for a very long time. It is a crossing point for the ‘Amongst town and nature’ and the ‘From one great view to another’ hikes.

A listed historical monument. The Portail d’Arles was constructed between 1771 and 1773 on the site of the old entrance in the collapsed ramparts. The portal of Arles was built by the master masons Jean Tabusteau of Istres and François Peytrau de St Mitre with stones from a local quarry. Slightly concave in shape, its anterior surface of great sobriety, is decorated with two flower garlands. Our house is located in a green valley on the edge of the Etoile massif north of the city. The site is particularly cool, calm and quiet. We have hives in a very large garden on the edge of the hill and are always happy to introduce people to the world of bees and honey. The North Hospital is nearby and easily accessible (less than a half hour walk, five minutes by car).
