Immerse yourself in the lower Cévennes, between sweet-chestnut groves and maquis scrubland, as you explore the Galeizon valley and the plains of Languedoc. From the car park, go downhill on the road. A few metres after the first bend, turn left and go downhill on a path to reach the road to Peyraube. At the reservoir, go downhill on the road and take the track on the left before entering Peyraube. Continue on this track and pass in front of Les Pièces. Before Les Combes, at the sign for Le Flaquier, take the path on the left towards Les Cabassettes. Go uphill into the chestnut grove, walk in front of Le Flaquier to the second ruin and continue on the path to join up with a track. Turn left onto this track to reach the D 632 road. Turn left onto the road and continue to its crossroads with the D 32. Turn right onto the D 32 for 400 m, then take the path on the left to climb to the Col des Cabassettes pass. At the pass, take the path on the left that leads you through the Roc Troué (notched rock), past the dolmen of the same name and to the D 32. Take the lane towards Peyraube to return to the car park.

A walk “by stone and wood”, through time, past ancient vestiges and ancestral know-how. Go uphill on the road and past Meyrannes school. At the bridge over Montagnac gully, continue straight ahead, then fork right. A path starts between the houses at the top of the village. A steep path leads you quickly to Montgrillet, which it enters through an olive grove. Go past the disused quarry above a large lime-kiln. Your footpath climbs on the right to a  dry-stone hut. Continue going uphill to Montgrillet on the same path between two walls, which cuts through an oak grove. Turn left towards La Font-de-Bourboul on a path that is paved to begin with. Retrace your steps, walk alongside the Bourboul brook and then climb the wooden steps. Go uphill and turn right onto your original outbound path.

The walk takes you to the centre of the old village using the former Royal road, which was once the only track from Chamborigaud to Saint German-de-Calberte. This walk has eleven numbered information panels.

This trail gives you access to panoramic viewpoints on its mountain ridges, as you follow in the footsteps of the men and women who left their imprint on the schist. A few clarifications:• As you leave the car park, turn right and continue on the road for 150 metres, then go left towards Mas de la Tourette / La Borie.• After Marker 4, take the path that goes uphill on the right. Be careful, some sections are slippery.• At the road, continue left to the hamlet. Then take the path on the right. • At the junction of paths, continue right. • Turn right towards the castle (there-and-back) to reach Markers 6, 7, 8.• Return to the car park on the path.   

Immerse yourself in a history as you walk from the banks of the river Gardon to Mas Soubeyran, a museum of French Protestantism. You will be able to enjoy far-reaching views onto the Puechs, Mont Aigoual, Mont Liron and, on clear days, even the Alps. From the car park, turn right onto the D 50, cross the Pont des Camisards bridge and turn left towards Le Travès / Paussan. Then head for Mas Soubeyran via La Roquette. At Mas Soubeyran, take the path on the right to reach La Baumelle gully, which leads to the mas (farm) of the same name. Walk past the mas on its right and continue on the track to join up with the road. Turn right onto the road and after 250 m turn left on a path towards La Rouvière. At La Rouvière, turn left onto a fire road (DFCI) and take a path on the left that goes downhill into Roquefeuille gully. Cross the bridge, take the road on the left and then a small path on the right that will lead you back to Mialet.

A short walk to do with the family starting from the hamlet of Chadouillet in the town of Saint-André-de-Cruzières. P – From the Place du Planet, go to the signpost for Chadouillet. Chadouillet - Follow Les Courpatières 1,3 km ().Take the first left on the Chanisse path. Continue on the small tarmac road that becomes a track. Cross the bridge and follow the path bordered by low walls. Les Courpatières - Follow Carissoules 0,5km. Take the path on the right, then on the left to go down through the oak trees towards the Cotepatière resurgence. When you reach the river bed, follow it for a few metres on the left, then go up a path on the right. Carissoules - Follow Chadouillet 0,9km. Turn right onto the path from which you can see the bell tower of Saint-André-de-Cruzières, and return to the starting point

Quittez l’agitation de la route nationale pour plonger dans la quiétude d’un ravin rafraîchissant. Lorsque vous sortirez du labyrinthe de terrasses, laissez vous guider par une voie ferrée rendue à son évolution naturelle. Le sentier descend vers un petit cours d’eau avant de le franchir par une passerelle. La remontée se fait dans les anciennes terrasses et rejoint l’ancien chemin de fer départemental (CFD). Le parcours se poursuit sur le tracé du CFD et emprunte le viaduc. Après le dernier point d’interprétation, le sentier bifurque sur un chemin plus étroit pour redescendre vers le Pont de Champernal.

Petite boucle autour du Luech dans une zone de faille entre schiste et granit, riche en minerais, près d'anciens sites miniers. Take the road for 1.5 km after the retirement home (maison de retraite).  At the fork, take the lower road, below Polimies, at the foot of La Fare mountain. Walk past 3 cypresses – trees traditionally planted in Cevenol cemeteries – then past a burned-down chestnut grove taken over by broom bushes. Cross the bridge over the Dreiléirède. After the bridge over the Rieutort, take the path that goes uphill to Soleyrols. In Soleyrols, at the fountain, follow the road on the left to the end, then take the narrow tarred lane below, go down a few steps, and walk past former orchards towards the torrent. Cross the Luech at the gué (ford). The path goes uphill in a steep and narrow valley between a low wall and, on the valley side, some standing stones. Use the ford to cross the Villaret and take the track that runs downstream along the Luech. The track joins up with the road to Castagnols. Go downhill for 1.2 km before taking the small path on the left into the undergrowth of a chestnut grove. Near the riverbanks of the Luech, there is an area maintained and fitted out for bathers. After crossing La Planche bridge, take the path on the left that goes back up to Vialas.

Ce petit sentier familial conduit le visiteur à la découverte de hameaux cévenols: le Villaret et le Massufret, tout en surpomblant les gorges du Luech. Take the path that goes downhill from the car park. After 50 m, take the path on the right. At a fork, take the track on the left and, some 20 m further, the path on the right. Two granite boulders open the path that goes downhill between birches in a north-easterly direction. Above the village, take the track leading to Le Massufret. The track overlooks the Luech gorge with its sides of sheer jagged rock. It joins up with the Massufret road amidst former meadows now invaded by young ash trees, growing straight and close together. The road goes past a covered fountain, through the hamlet of Le Massufret with its schist houses with granite lintels, and a few ruins. As you leave the hamlet, take the track that leads back to the Col de la Baraquette.

For 4 generations now, this family campsite welcomes you in the heart of the Cevennes between Anduze and Saint Jean du Gard, in the Mialet valley. The repeated passage of flocks of sheep over the millennia – first wild, then domesticated – has dragged a path to this summit. Under the impetus of the monks of Cendras, humans enlarged the path by hand to make it easier to use by convoys of saddled mules and by sheep. In 1689, the King's Intendant in Languedoc, Monsieur de Basville, implemented a royal order to organise the road network in the Cevennes in such a way that canons could be pulled along it and enable troops to hunt down Protestant rebels more easily. […] The dry-stone retaining walls and especially the giant breach cut into the rock that gives it its name – Roc Troué or Notched Rock – showcase the colossal efforts of our ancestors. Complexes of dolmens were built 4,000 years ago; the ones that collapsed were re-used up to the 6th century BC to deposit the ashes of the deceased and a few last offerings [dolmens furent bâtis il y a 4 000 ans puis effondrés et re-employés DONC, on les a effondres expres avant de les re-utiliser? Un peu bizarre comme formulation/idee ? Revoir la V.O.)]. Some seem to have been more elaborate, such as this one: a round base supports a dolmen built like a small house with a rock table for a “roof”. In fact, it is not certain that, in the Cevennes, prehistoric tombs were covered in this way. Archaeological excavations have uncovered pottery shards, bronze bracelets, hewn flints, a few cremation deposits or, in some cases, nothing at all! (B. Mathieu)

This is a scrubland of tree heaths, evergreen (mock) privets, sage-leaved rock roses and strawberry trees, between which frolic two-tailed pashas. This butterfly can be identified by its tan and brown colour, its underside which is ocellated black and white, and by the two tails it has at the bottom of its wings. It can only be found where there are strawberry trees, and for a good reason: they are the only plants that host its eggs, nourish its larvae and provide twigs for its chrysalis to hang from. The pasha likes to feed on ripe fruit as well as fermented and even alcoholic matter! It is also known as the foxy emperor. (B. Mathieu)

Nicknamed the Vessel of the Cevennes because of its spectacular stone prow and unique in Europe. True gateway to the High Cevennes at the foot of Mont Lozère, it is located on the outskirts of the Cevennes National Park, which was declared a World Heritage Site in June 2011 and defies more than 10 centuries of history. Built in the 11th century to protect the Regordane Way (today's GR 700), the castle of Portes is the marriage of a medieval fortress and a Renaissance bastion. Remarkable for its rich history and its atypical architecture, unique in Europe, it is classified as a historical monument. The spur which forms an angle of 42° constitutes its originality and earns it the nickname of "vessel of the Cevennes". It offers an unobstructed view at 32 meters high on the surrounding valleys and many possibilities of hiking in the surroundings.

(Private property) You enter the ruins via a staircase chiselled into the rock. All the buildings - sheepfold, bread oven, clède (building for drying chestnuts) – are built on the bare rock. Long ago, a spring above them was tapped and fixed for the hamlet's needs. The large water retention basin carved into the rock has since dried out. (B. Mathieu)

Pierre André Benoit (PAB), printer, poet, sculptor and draughtsman, donated his collection of modern art to the city of Alès to create the museum that bears his name. Exceptional collection of modern and contemporary art, donated by the publisher Pierre André Benoit: paintings, drawings and engravings by Aleschinsky, Braque, Picasso, Miró. The works are presented in the old castle of Rochebelle. The museum also houses 450 books by PAB combining poetry and paintings in an exceptional collection unique in France.

Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology. Archaeological pieces from the Middle Paleolithic to the Bronze Age and the Iron Age are on display. There is also a collection of paintings from the 16th century. Founded in 1889 and installed in the Hôtel de Pellerin since 1967, the Musée du Colombier presents collections covering a vast period from prehistory to 20th century art. Important donations of paintings and sculptures in the 19th and early 20th centuries have enabled the museum to build up a collection of works of great importance, including the Triptych of the Holy Trinity by Jean Bellegambe and two allegories by Pieter Brueghel de Velours. In the second half of the 20th century, the archaeological collections were considerably expanded, until today they constitute a remarkable collection, testimony to the human occupation of the Alès region from prehistoric times to the medieval period. The Dovecote Museum is nestled in a beautiful 18th century mansion, with a French garden decorated with a beautiful rock garden.

At the exit of Mialet between Anduze and Saint Jean du Gard, the Restaurant Les Plans will make you discover a simple and traditional Cevennes cuisine of the most surprising. Located in the valley of the Camisards, this old silkworm farm transformed into a restaurant in 1999, will seduce you by its charm and its setting. On the terrace, in the shade of the plane trees or in the dining room, you will have at your disposal a simple but varied menu with the maximum of local products as well as musical animations in July and August. You will be able to take advantage of the petanque ground, the games room as well as the access to the river at a few minutes.
