Camping Tohapi La Boissière in Saint-Geniez-d'Olt: Nature and Discoveries

A path in the valley, from St Saturnin de Lenne, in a Causse countryside.1. Take the littel street, just in front of the church until the bridge. When you reach the road D2, turn left.2. At the cemetery, turn right and walk on the road D582.3. 300 m further on, at the cross, turn right, in direction of "Trescanous". At the mill, go straight on, until the hamlet "Orbis" (public bread oven).4. After the hamlet, turn right in direction of "Lenne". Go through the hamlet. The large building was an orphanage. It is now a holiday center.5. At the church, turn right, cross the road D45 and go straight along the path just opposite.  You join the village "St Martin de Lenne".6. Before entering the village, turn right. Go straight on for 3 km.7. 3 km further on, at the cross paths, marked by a cross, turn left in direction of "Grun", an old mansion of the XIVth century. Pass through the hamlet and along the beautiful building. Continue until the road D2 and continue back to the village of St Saturnin de Lenne.

Around Campagnac, go to discover the Causse architecture and smell the scent of boxwood.Borrow the D37 to Saint-Laurent-d'Olt on 300 m. At the Iron Cross, take the left path.It runs along the limestone cliffs of the Ancize (view over the ravine of Courtineaux and Lot valley picnic area).At the junction, follow the right path.It climbs to the house of painter (private property).After the high voltage line, the road descends into the wood.100 m after the ruin of a vine house, turn left into the path that goes back on the shelf.At the top, continue the path in front of 100 m, then turn left.Just before the high voltage line, follow the path left for a few meters, then turn right on the small road lined with big boxwood.Enter the pine wood and then continue through the boxwood  until Campagnac.Cross the village center, then go down to join the gendarmerie.

This physically challenging loop leads from the banks of the river Tarn to the Causse Méjean plateau, and offers  gorgeous panoramic views onto the Tarn Gorges and the Causse de Sauveterre. From the carpark in La Malène, cross the river Tarn and take the path on the right after the bridge. Take the first footpath on the left (after 300 m) and climb onto the Causse Méjean plateau. Go through Rieisse and, on leaving the hamlet, continue straight ahead towards the Roc des Hourtous. At the panoramic viewpoint of Les Hourtous, walk past the snack bar on its right to take a path that runs parallel to the ridge for 800 m. Then take the path downhill on the left to join up with the path overlooking the Tarn. Turn right onto it to return to the starting-point.

Come and explore the Pedestal of Fontaneilles, a medieval fortress built on a rocky peak, dominating the valley and offering a 360° panorama.Leave the parking and go up to the castle, then follow the path on the right that goes along the ramparts, on 400 m.Get on the path that rises on the left. on 100 m, stay on the path on your right. It goes up in undergrowth, reaches the wooded plateau of the Puech de Fontaneilles and ends up on a forest path.Make a round trip on the right to gain in 300m, the television antenna and enjoy the sight on thr valley of Trébans and the village of Bourg. Retrace your steps and continue straight  ahead on the forest path to arrive at a junction.On the left side, go towards the Pedestral, about 400m. View on the valley of the Tarn, the village of Rivière-sur-Tarn and the hamlet of Caylus perched on the hill on the opposite side. Retrace your steps and come down by taking the forest track in wide laces. Once crossing the gate, go along on 100m and foward on the little path on the left. It leads to Fontaneilles, at a big farm.Get on the left path, 500m after yhe wooden barrier. Keep this track until the road which leads to Col. Follow the signage until the cellars of Entre-deux-Monts.Retrace your steps until finding the path common to an entrance of a field. Follow it until reaching the road of Fontaneilles. Go up on the left and take on right site 200m further to come towards the village.Return on the road and go down until Fontaneilles and cross the village. After the church, take the second street on the left. At the crossing out of stones, follow the path that passes bellow an agricultural shed which continues until Louradou.At the crossing of Louradou, take the path going up to the hamlet of Peyrelade. Take time to discover the castle, a fortress of the 12th century, which the visit allows you to retrace the time of the Lords of Rouergue.

Between sky and earth, wander around on the cliffs of the Gorges du Tarn and gain some hight! Between the Griffon vultures and troglodyt hamlets prepare for suprising discoveries.Go towards the town center of the village Liaucous and come down on the cobblestone street then across the alleys to join the road on the left side and follow on about 500m.Take the path on the left that goes into the woods alongside the hill slope under the Roc des Agudes.Go through the hamlet of Eglazines under the cliff edge. This track goes to the cirque  of Saint-Marcellin.Arrive at the hamlet of Saint-Marcellin and continue on the track up to the causse de Sauveterre. Pass the cross and follow on about 200m.Get on the track on the leftside towards the fountain des Paillasses (drinking water source). Follow on the left the "caussenard" path.At the crossroads, come off the path on the right towards Vors and foward the track on the left until the junction with the path of Eglazines. Turn off towards South in direction of Puech about 800m. Leave the path and turn right onto the track going into the forest. This track goes along the cliff and passes below the via ferrata before regaining the village of Liaucous. 

Breath-taking, dizzying… the reference hike in the gorges of the Tarn and the Jonte, with the emblems of the Vase de Sèvre and the Vase de Chine, astonishing natural creations.1. Walk along the main street towards Meyrueis. Before the fish farm, climb to the left about ten steps between the houses and continue on the path that leads to a pin of the road. Turn right on the climbing path. Arriving at the second pin, follow the road towards the climb, which continues on concrete track.2. Arriving at Capluc, possibility to make a round-trip (30 minutes) to climb the Capluc rock. Wonderful views of le Rozier/Peyreleau and the Tarn valley. Back at the intersection, follow the path and pass the rock refuge, an old bread oven.3. On the left, stairs indicate the direction of the path Jacques Brunet, more steep variant, with more diffuse signs, which joins the circuit after the Francbouteille pass (4). This option will delight the biggest climbers and the youngest. Otherwise continue the path and climb in laces, along the ravine of Echos. Ignore the path that goes down to the right. At the crossroads, take a left to the Francbouteille pass (altitude 765 m).   4. On the Tarn side, after a kilometre walk, reach the Teil fountain (200m to the left below). The path widens and climbs regularly. At the pass, leave on your left a descent leading to l’Ermiatege St-Pons.5. In a pin, leave to the left the path leading to the rock of Cinglegros, and continue towards the Cassagnes pass (altitude 874m). At the first crossroads, go straight, and then turn to the second right in a southerly direction. At the bottom of a slight descent, go right, then left at the next fork. At this point, the path transforms into a track. Here begins a dazzling journey overlooking the cliffs of the Jonte.6. Pass successively at the Balcony of Vertigo (lookout point equipped with a bodyguard), then the Pas du Loup, a narrow way leading at the foot of the Vase de Chine and the Vase de Sèvres.7. The path joins the Echos ravine. Go down to the left towards Capluc and follow the same path as the way to reach the village. 

Discover a pleasant stroll along the Tarn in family!From the parking, foward on the road about 200m, then join the river banks by taking the MTB route on the left side . At the first junction go on the left side of the cross then straight ahead to go along the Tarn river until joining the RD 187.Go along the road on the right about 100 m then fork on the left onto the path that goes up joining the hamlet des Crotes. The path goes along the hills until Paulhe.Reach until the road in a hairpin bend. Take it on the right side about 100 m before turning right towards "rue des Eglantiers". Fork on the right towards "rue de la Forge" then left towards "rue de l'ancienne fontaine" to get back to the departure. Finish your walk by visiting la Maison de la Cerise (the Cherry house) and/or the orchards conservatory to discover different variaties of cherries in the valley.

In the 13th century Lagarde was Commandery of Knights templar. The little chapel in this village is the last remnant of this once important property. The castle of LA BORIE is a good example of military architecture of 15th century. It is private property and can not be visited. Panoramic view to the Tailladès valleys and the Truyère river.

An easy hike, ideal for hot days, the path is shady the most time. From the departure point possibility to follow for 2 km the Peatlog of Vergnes des Mazes with information display boards (in French language). D – DEPART: From LIEUTADES take the car for 4 km in the direction of LACALM. Big parking at your right. Take the path, which goes to your left into a beech wood. Follow it for 2 km. 1 - At the end of the wood take the path at right until the village BURGUERETTES. 2 - In BURGUERETTES take left into the village. Typical architecture and old farmhouses, beautiful view on the volcano massif. Go back and follow the asphalt road to LES MAZES. To see: beside the road a memorial cross, called “Cross of the soldier”. 3 - In LES MAZES in front of a big farm house turn at right. The path crosses the wood and takes you to the departure point. Bramabiau is one of those grandiose and bizarre works of nature. A veritable cradle of French speleology, the tour is 1 km long and very accessible. This fortified farm depended from the monastic barn of Galinières, next to Pierrefiche d'Olt.Its buildings close an indoor court, which the vaulted unique entrance is protected by a gatehouse (small rectangular room situated above the door, with pierced holes in the floor for shots).

Mansion from the 17th century and its pigeon house.Its corners have turrets allowing a defence of the fronts.In 1755, it was one of the most important domain of the region: 4 pairs of oxes, 31 animals with horns, 4 mares, 408 animals which produced wool. The domain produced wheat, rye, barley, oats.

The small Gothic church of Lenne was built at the end of the 15th century.Inside, there is a copy of the statue of the Enthroned Virgin, coming from Luganhac. The original, sculpted in the wood, from the 12th century, is, with the one in Estables, one of the oldest of the Rouergue. The statue, as the reredos of the church, are classified in the inventory of historic monuments.

The first church of St Saturnin de Lenne, which dominates the Serre valley, was built during the 11th century. It had been reconstructed during the 12th century, then enlarged during the 13th.During the 11th century, Bégon de Calmont gave the churches of St Saturnin and La Roque to the abbey of Conques. Around 1100, monks started to reconstruct the church. But works stopped.During the 13th century, the tower was completed by the building of a bell room lighted by 4 bays and covered by a dome with shale tiles.The 19th century brought numerous transformations : bays were opened in the east end, 2 bays were added between 1852 and 1856. Finally, an architech of Mende proposed to elevate the bell tower and to add a roof light of 8 small columns, of the Neo-Byzantine style.Outside, sculptures represent historiated scenes (birds, horsemen, ...) from the end of the 11th century, in particular on the modillions of the east end and the transept.

In 1988, during the creation of a subdivison, a part of ruins of a important Gallo-Roman villa in activity during the second part of the 1st and the 5th century, was discovered.The remains are the western side of the urban part. The thermal baths, for the owner and his family, are situated in succession, for the coldest to the hotest, as required. Built on the Causse, next to a Roman road, the small chapel dominates the hamlet of Lenne.This small oratory is dedicated to the Virgin. A Way of the Cross goes from Lenne to the small chapel, in addition to a roadway. A lot of pilgrims and visitors go to this site all along the year. Private property.

This fountain is situated on a on a walking path named "Lou Camin del Picalhas", starting from the hamlet of Bonneterre. It would have been built by the inhabitants of the hamlets of Campselves and Ajas, in the 1880's or 1890's. This fountain was used by pupils of the school of Bonneterre to keep fresh water between their classroom and the village of Campselves, during high heat days. Every day, children walked on this path to go to school.Bad drained and not enough known, this fountain was restored with the help of the department With a grant, the townhall can restore the fountain. Members of a local association, "Causses et Vallées", will lead the projects, with the material help of the townhall. At the foot of the watering place, a drain has to allow the flow of the water. A cleaning of stones will also take place.The first part of the works took place on september 2016, the 24th, with the contribution of elected people of the village, members of the association "Causse et Vallée", inhabitants of Bonneterre and a child, for the symbolic aspect. Stones of the fountain and the water place were cleaned up and a drain was created. During the spring of 2017, a pavement will be put in front of the fountain to complete this restoration.

Sur le Pic de Mus, en regard du Roc des loups, et en contrebas de la statue de la vierge, un second projet a été réalisé avec les élus locaux, le paysagiste concepteur Xavier Bonnet de A3-PAYSAGE et Emmanuel Hebrard, tailleur de pierre. L’idée ? Un bloc basaltique sera creusé, telle une géode, pour permettre des pauses méditatives face au paysage ou sous le ciel étoilé, et offrir un nouveau lieu d’harmonie avec la nature. Sur la commune de Saint Laurent de Muret, le Pic de Mus propose une vue panoramique remarquable sur un promontoire marqué par un volcanisme singulier sur l’Aubrac. L’accès au sommet est relativement court, permettant une sortie facile à destination des habitants et curieux. Le site présente une charge religieuse, historique et matérielle forte. La présence d’un hôtel sur un plateau en contrebas du sommet, et d’une statue de vierge ainsi qu’une table d’orientation en haut, apporte de la symbolique au site.La GéODE de l’Aubrac est disposée sur le chemin menant à ce sommet et est gravée aux noms des lieux emblématiques de la commune de Saint Laurent de Muret, renforçant le lien entre patrimoine local et création contemporaine.

The village counts for its attractions among the "Small cities of character". The ubiquitous granite frame marries wonderfully with the natural setting of the high plateau of the Aubrac that welcomes it. Saint-Urcize stands at an altitude of 1000 m on a basalt rock dominating the valleys of the Hère and the Bes, on the plateau of Aubrac. The old houses, narrow alleys, small squares embellished with fountains, the remains of fortification and the ruins of the ancient fort give to the city its medieval character and attest to its ancient origin. The roofs of grey slates and shales merge with the remarkable 12th century Romanesque church whose comb bell tower dominates the city. Its small bell dating from 1583 would be one of the oldest in France, and its ambulatory guarantees that the city was in the Middle Ages a stage of the pilgrimage of Santiago de Compostela.

Nestling in the charming stone-vaulted dining room of L'Auberge de la Tour and on the pretty terrace overlooking Marcolès, the bistronomic Oxalis restaurant serves local cuisine meticulously prepared by chef Renaud Darmanin. Local produce and fresh vegetables from the kitchen garden are naturally given pride of place. The fries are homemade too!
