On the way, discover ancient quarries.Depart from the village hall. Take the D35 to the village of Chersoubre.In the centre of the village, where the D35 narrows, take the right-hand path. Don't miss: after crossing the wetlands, on the left, on the edge of the wood, old rough granite watering holes. On the left, a beautiful beech wood with important granitic outcrops overhanging. Further along on the left is the "Berny quarry" with its loading dock.Another 150 m on, at the three paths, take the one on the left and continue on the left for 80 m.Continue to the right. Don't miss: on the left, the remains of the quarry "at Dollo" with its loading dock.Go back up the track to the left.At the top of the track, go back down to the right above Chersoubre.

The village of Saint-Georges-Nigremont, perched on the Nigremont (Black Mountain) at an altitude of 746 m and at the end of a small, winding road, offers an exceptional panoramic view of the Crocq region and the Monts d'Auvergne from its orientation table.Depart from the church square. Go down the terrace steps, cross the municipal road, and to the left of the cross take the "schoolchildren's path" which runs alongside the cemetery.Once on the D35, follow it to the left until you reach the village of La Cour.At the entrance to the village, turn right onto the tarmac forest track and follow it for about 2 km.At the intersection with the D90, take, opposite, the track that leads to the village of Monteix.After the village, follow the path on the right.Turn right again onto the path that leads to the Grancher brook.Cross the brook and go up to the next crossing to turn left towards the village of Grancher.As you leave this village, take the right-hand path, and then the left one.After the wood, turn left onto the path that goes back up, and go through the village of Les Ecures.Cross the D35 and take the path between the houses that goes upwards and leads to the entrance of the village of Saint-Georges-Nigremont.

This hike follows the River Dejoune up to the sources of its many streams, on the edge of the La Courtine military camp. As you make your way along the upper reaches of the valley, you'll come across a succession of small hamlet heritage features and viewpoints. The "grand bois" communal forest offers a variety of forest atmospheres, with hardwoods dominated by oaks, beeches and various conifers. On the way back, the 14th-century church of Saint Pierre and Saint Paul and the lime tree known as "de Sully" invite you to stop off. This circuit includes a 15 km shortcut. To the opposite side of town heading towards Croze then Magnat.Take the path before the cemetery. Go on alongside the meadows, and go through a wood. The path becomes a trail. Crossed a stream and find a path that rises through a logging area.Follow the road to the left for 800 m. Go right at the next crossroads, and go through Pierrefite. Take the path on the right opposite the La Gane crossroads.Go up into the woods. At the end of the meadow, turn left then right to find a path that goes up into a plantation. At the top, follow the path to the right. At the Y-junction, go straight ahead until you get to Lachaud.Keep to the left in the village. After the water tower, take the path to the right. Continue for 300 m. then fork right onto the trail. Turn left at the next crossroads to cross a stream. 50 m. after this, on the right, take an inconspicuous trail that goes into the woods. Follow the markings carefully. Find a path that goes back to the road. Turn right to Queyriaud.Keep to the left in the village. The road becomes a trail that you follow as far as La Somme.Cross the road, follow the track for 1.2 km. In a bend, take the path on the right, continue to Le Moussard.Turn right at the entrance to the village. Go down alongside the meadows. In the forest, go right at the wooden cross. A little further on, turn left to cross the Dejoune by the bridge. Go up to the road on the right and return to the starting point by going through the village.

Follow the trail straight ahead past where the charcoal is burned. Shortly after logging area, turn left; the trail goes down to the road.Follow it for 1 km. At the crossroads, turn left but stay on the abandoned road.  The road becomes a path that goes uphill into the forest and then arrives at the Poussanges church. Go through the town to get back to the start.

In 1179, the Viscounts of Aubusson donated the land of Pontcharral to the monastery of Blessac. A chapel with a three-bay nave was built in the 14th century. From 1564 to the French Revolution, the parish church was an annex of the Chambon abbey. Extensive restoration and alterations were carried out in the 19th century (two chapels, sacristy, paintings). The church comprises a nave, the first bay of which serves as the choir. The bell tower is pierced by three semicircular arches housing the bells, and buttressed by two buttresses, one of which contains a staircase. IMH in 1987

The village of Saint-Georges-Nigremont testifies to the mastery of the old stone-cutters. Don't miss: the church (commented tour inside) with its typical local belfry, terraced landscaped gardens, and the panorama from the orientation table.

Built in the 13th century on the promontory of the hilltop village of Saint Georges-Nigremont, the church is well worth a detour. The nave, flanked by two chapels, is leaning against a slender bell tower-wall pierced by 3 bells. The bell tower overlooks a Romanesque porch and houses on the first floor a very rare mechanical clock which is accessed by a spiral staircase. Inside, recent restoration work has uncovered a painted funerary band with an exceptional degree of preservation. The history of the building is told to the visitor by a soundtrack coupled with progressive lighting.

The village of SAINT GEORGES NIGREMONT, perched at an altitude of 750 m, offers an exceptional panorama of the Haut Pays Marchois and the Auvergne mountains from its panoramic viewpoint. The 13th-century clochermur church, the presbytery's bakery, terraced gardens and orchards, and dry-stone walls make this village a jewel case. Below, the course of the Rozeille, a fario trout river, is dotted with stone plank bridges. Visits, walks and hikes all year round

The bakery of the former presbytery, restored and very complete, with its oven, its bujadier (ancestor of the washing machine), and its vegetable garden cut in granite is characteristic of the know-how of the masons of the Creuse.

Built in the 14th century, then remodeled in the 18th, this recently restored building boasts a remarkable collection of wall paintings (late 16th - early 16th century), as well as an original, naive wooden altarpiece (late 17th century).

This 12th-century Romanesque chapel features a bell tower with 2 arcades and modillions. Restored in the 15th and 19th centuries, it is the only vestige of the hospital house inhabited in 1258 by the nuns of Fontevrault Abbey. The hospital and chapel were part of the Blessac Priory. It was built near a so-called miraculous spring. The chapel was a refuge for pilgrims on their way to Clermont-Ferrand and Le Puy-en-Velay, or to Santiago de Compostela. Today, the chapel is open once a year for the pilgrimage on September 8, the day of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The procession takes a path through the woods to the Polish Cross. This is an opportunity to see the 16th-century pietà.

The public weighbridge is an architectural structure. In the Creuse region, it is usually located in the center of a village, or near a church or market place. It was used to determine the weight of any road vehicle or animals such as pigs or cows, or hay and straw etc., and then sell them at a price based on their weight. The Creuse region has preserved a number of these, sometimes even in working order.

The church was built in the 18th century (1762-1775). The building, with a straight chevet, is composed of a nave with three bays. A chapel is built on each of the north and south walls.

This building dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary dates back to the 12th century and was part of an old hospital run for centuries by nuns. Several restorations were carried out in the 15th and 19th centuries. It houses a polychrome wooden pieta from the 16th century.
