A route along Rigole de la Plaine, linking Saint-Ferréol and Lenclas lake; a shaded route with steep slopes. Notice to amateurs! Start: from Revel at the Moulin du Roy municipal campsite (departure area of the green route) This route has an ochre-coloured compacted sand surface that is not suitable for rollerblades. With a width of 2m, it is reserved for non-motorised modes of transport (except for horse riders). It is ideal for walking, mountain biking and provides a 17 km link to Lenclas lake from Revel. Once you reach Lenclas, the green route ends. You can then continue for around 25 km on a track to the Canal du Midi. V84 or Véloccitane is a whole itinerary from Béziers to the Canal du Midi at Naurouze threshold, via Bédarieux, Olargues, Saint-Pons-de-Thomières, Mazamet, Castres and Revel. Don't miss a visit to the Réservoir, a kind of museum dedicated to Canal du Midi history at Saint-Ferréol.

Saint-Félix-Lauragais is strategically located overlooking the plain and hillsides of the Lauragais. This former castelnau offers superb views of the Montagne Noire to the east, the Pyrenees to the south (on a clear day), Lauragais hills and Monts de Lacaune to the north.This 8 km walk will give you a good idea of the richness of this medieval village and its exceptional environment. Round the corner from Place Guillaume de Nogaret, turn left into Rue Déodat de Séverac. Enter the park straight along this street and make a quick round trip to the orientation table at the top of a flight of stairs. When you leave the park, turn left and go through the Porte Roqueville. In the bend to the left, continue straight ahead through the grass and turn right to pass below the house. Cross D622 (a busy road) and head down the grassy path. You will pass by an old wash-house. Cross a tarmac road and continue straight on towards Pousseilles Basses. The asphalt gives way to grass. At the crossroads, turn right and climb a gravel path to the crest. Follow the track to the right for about 100 m. Go left down a farm track. At the bottom, leave the track on the right. Go straight up. Continue straight on for 2.5 km. Along the way, enjoy the view over Saint-Félix-Lauragais to the north, Le Vaux to the west and Caraman to the north-west. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead on a tarmac road. After 500 m, turn right at the hamlet of Plaisance. Near a well, leave the tarmac road that climbs to the right towards En Gry Vieux and descend to the left on a grassy path, then continue straight ahead on the tarmac road until you reach the Combelasse screened well. Turn left and head up towards the village on another grassy track. Bend right under the cemetery and Saint-Roch chapel. Turn left onto a pedestrian passageway between a garden and a house, which leads to a street. Then climb the steps to the left until you reach the D622 (beware of dangerous bends). Walk on the pavement and use the pedestrian crossings to cross over to the inn and join rue Déodat de Séverac leading up to the church. Return to the square around the covered market.

Saint-Félix-Lauragais is a village of breathtaking views - and what views! The village overlooks the entire Lauragais from the top of its limestone spur. From there, the view extends as far as the Montagne Noire, Monts de Lacaune, Corbières and, on a clear day, the spectacular Pyrenees.This short 5.3km circuit takes you through the hills and valleys of the Lauragais region. Turn left into rue Déodat de Séverac, at the corner of Guillaume de Nogaret square. It climbs towards a little park next to the castle. Enter the park to reach the orientation table on a terrace at the top of the stairs. Return to the street and go through Porte Roqueville. At the bend in the road, continue straight ahead through the grass and turn right to pass below the house. Cross the D622 (a very busy road) and go down the grassy path opposite. Pass a very old wash-house. Cross a tarmac road and continue towards Pousseilles Basses where the tarmac gives way to grass. At the crossroads, turn right and climb a gravel path to the ridge. Continue straight on, following the ridge. Go to the English cemetery (where Wellington passed through in 1814) in the shade of beautiful century-old cypress trees. Beautiful views over Saint-Félix-Lauragais. Continue along the ridge for around 800 m until you come to a ruin on the right. Turn right onto the steep track that descends sharply at the start. Follow it for 700 m to the screened well at Combelasse. Cross the tarmac road and head uphill. Turn right under the cemetery and Saint-Roch chapel. Turn left onto a pedestrian crossing between a garden and a house, which leads to another street. Then climb the steps to the left until you reach the D622. Walk along the pavement, carefully using the pedestrian crossings at the Auberge du Poids Public. Walk up rue Déodat de Séverac towards the Collegiate church until you reach Place Guillaume de Nogaret.

In the heart of Lauragais, from the small village of Saint-Félix-Lauragais, 5.2 km of trails through fields once used to grow woad. You'll see plenty of reminders of this glorious past along the way! The GR®653 crosses 10 départements, including Haute-Garonne, over a distance of 140km. This section of Via Tolosana arrives in Toulouse via the Canal du Midi and Lauragais hills and plain. Starting in Arles, Via Tolosana or Via Arletanensis heads towards the tomb of the Apostle James the Greater. From Camargue to Toulouse, GR®653 first follows Via Domitia, an ancient Roman road, then enters the foothills of Haut-Languedoc. This historic route runs through a vast landscape, enhanced by a rich architectural heritage. After Toulouse, GR653 crosses Gascony, northern Bigorre and Béarn. At the foot of the dyke of the water-supply lake of the Canal du Midi, the interpretation centre is dedicated to the discovery of this exceptional UNESCO-listed structure. Inside, you'll discover the titanic project of its designer, Pierre Paul Riquet. Linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean... a dream that has been alive since Antiquity. Pierre-Paul Riquet made it happen in the 17th century! Along with the Château de Versailles, the Canal du Midi is the most important achievement of the reign of Louis XIV. The dam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the keystone of the canal's water supply system. At the foot of the dam is LE RÉSERVOIR, a discovery area for the Canal du Midi. A life-size presentation of the history of the canal, its engineering structures and its ingenious supply system. EXHIBITION The Saint-Ferréol dam was first filled with water in 1673. At 32 metres high, it is now France's oldest large dam in operation. To mark this anniversary, LE RESERVOIR, the Canal du Midi's discovery centre, is looking back at the history of these giants of wood, stone, earth and concrete that now dot our landscapes. The exhibition explores the role and place of these structures in our regions, and our relationship with water at a time when 'blue gold' is more precious than ever. TAP GALLERY The Reservoir regularly organises tours of the Tap Gallery. This tour takes you deep into the bowels of the Saint-Ferréol reservoir, through a 70-metre-long vault, complete with light and sound effects. At the very end of the tunnel are 3 19th-century taps. Facing Montagne Noire, the ancient Saint Felix castle has dominated the edge of Lauragais plateau for more than seven centuries. Overlooking the plain, this castle has been destroyed, rebuilt, modified and enlarged over the centuries according to the wishes of its successive owners. You can enter the courtyard, terraces and ground floors of the castle. Let's see the superb mosaic room, the old kitchen in the dungeon, the guard tower, the lounges. One of them houses our Tourist Information Centre. Here, superb Louis XVI stucco adorns the panelling above the doors and the mirrors. Each salon has its own type of parquet flooring. The rooms are open to the public from April (from the Cocagne festival onwards) until the end of September. Afterwards, enjoy the panoramic view over the countryside (photos highly recommended) and stroll around the castle in the manner of the nobles. In the heart of the village, the medieval market hall shines with its beams and belfry crowned with a statue of the Virgin Mary. Don't miss the weekly Friday market. In the centre of the castelnau, the hall was built in the 13th century. In 1557, the common house was built above the hall and was accessed through the tower that contains a beautiful stone staircase. It was erected to commemorate the erection of Saint-Félix as a barony by King Henri II (the date of foundation is engraved on the frontispiece of the front door with the city's coat of arms). In 1862, the population of Saint-Félix and the surrounding area was decimated by a cholera epidemic. The town decided to offer an ex-voto to the Virgin Mary in gratitude for her protection. This 3m-high bronze statue was installed on the belfry in the heart of the village. At her feet, a plaque with a Latin inscription says ‘they established me as the guardian of your city’.

The highlight of St-Félix-Lauragais. The Collegiate Church dates from 1317 and contains a magnificent organ from 1781, classified as a historical monument and completely restored. Built in the early 14th century, the collegiate church of Saint-Félix-Lauragais replaced the castle chapel as the parish church. Built on a rather small plot of land, it is 50m long, 26m wide and 19m high under the vault. The 42-metre-high bell tower reaches for the heavens. The architecture of the building is in the Southern Gothic style: a single nave, chapels between the buttresses, mitre arches on the levels of the bell tower, completed by decorative elements typical of Flamboyant Gothic (high-relief sculpture). The church of Saint-Félix became a collegiate church in 1317 during the pontificate of John XXII. This honorary title established a chapter of canons whose mission was to preach the Catholic faith during the Inquisition and in the aftermath of the crusade against the Albigensians/cathars. Saint-Félix had a little help from the Lord of the village, who was none other than the Pope's brother. One of the masterpieces of the Collegiate Church is without doubt the organ and its superb Louis XV case. The organ was built in the 18th century, between 1780 and 1781. It underwent an epic restoration! It was classified as a Historic Monument in 1967. The first restoration took place in 1930, so that the organ could play Romantic music! The restorers added keyboards therefore notes to the organ. So Déodat de Séverac was able to play his romantic compositions. In 1989, a restorer from the Monuments Historiques came to Saint-Félix-Lauragais and discovered this magnificent 18th-century organ, still in all its original materials. Many organs today are mechanised and modernised for greater convenience. The organ at Saint-Félix still has its large bellows made of rabbit skins, glued together with ‘fish bone’ glue. So it was decided to remove them all! The organ was restored for the second time between 1990 and 1992, losing its romantic style but regaining its original appearance.

Built in 1667, Riquet's water reservoir was planted with ornamental trees in the 18th century. The first plantings stabilised the structure of the reservoir. A pine forest was planted all around the lake. Even the air smells good here, thanks to the pine trees that line the beaches. You're warmly invited to take advantage of this green canopy to relax, picnic or even snorkel! A seventeenth-century dyke, as well as a magnificent English-style park, a spray and waterfalls built in the nineteenth century, enhance the site. Gentlemen used to invite ladies to come here for a gallant stroll in the shade of the trees. Taking advantage of the force of the wind blowing across Lauragais hillsides or the water flowing through the valleys, several mills have been built in our destination to grind grains from local crops or make textiles. Today, some mills are still part of our landscape, carefully preserved as witnesses to another era. Among the mills still standing, you can admire the following from the road: - Mourvilles-Hautes mill, a windmill and tower with two pairs of millstones, whose roof was restored in 1997. A second, more recent mill in front of the miller's house has a tiled roof. - Three mills in Le Vaux are located below the castle, a little further south. One of these mills is among the eldest in the area, dating back to the 16th century. - the windmills of Saint-Félix-Lauragais, located on the aptly-named ‘butte des trois moulins’, visible from the Rue des Nobles, the Moulin du Chapitre at the foot of the Montfort tower and the Moulin de la Croix (on the Route de Toulouse, next to the chemist's shop), which was given a state-of-the-art wooden roof in autumn 2024. - There are also mills along Sor stream between Revel and Durfort. These are private properties. Moulin du Chapitre and Moulin de l'Abbé offer bed and breakfast accommodation. - Durfort town council has created a heritage trail upstream from the village, along Sor. The town of Revel was founded by the French King Philippe VI in 1342. This bastide is organised around a central square where the streets converge in a grid pattern. This square with its polychrome galleries and arcades of brick, wood and stone is a real setting for a splendid medieval market hall. The 14th century market hall is one of the largest in France. It is 39 m each side and is supported by 79 oak pillars. It is the heart Revel citizen life, especially on Saturday mornings when one of the 10 most beautiful markets in France takes place. Revel Belfry, neo-classical style, dates from 1834 replacing a half-timbered and bricks architecture. The belfry rings the bell for the whole town. The country guard and town crier lived there until 1965. It had several functions: watchtower, town clocks and bells, prison and town hall. These two intertwined buildings are subject to a major restoration campaign scheduled to run from late 2024 to spring 2026. Climbing up the belfry will no longer be possible. The roof will be re-tiled, fragile beams replaced, some pillars reinforced, the bell tower masonry restored. The dome covered with its original mateial: fish-scale slates. The clocks will be settled in their original height and the terrace cladding removed to reveal the terracotta floor tiles of it conceals. The terrace door will be returned to its original position. The interior of the tower will also be refurbished to provide the best possible conditions to welcome the public after the works. In the meantime, the Tourist Office will be moved to the Musée du Bois et de la Marqueterie.
