
This walk will take you to the heart of the forest at Les Cammazes to discover the artificial works created by Vauban in the 17th century to complete Pierre Paul Riquet's innovative network. On the programme: crossing the Vauban vault, walking along the Rigole de la Montagne through the forest. Les Cammazes is part of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park.

Departure - From the picnic area above Vauban tunnel
1 - Go as far as the railing overlooking Rigole de la Montagne. Walk down Chemin de la Passe on the left bank. Go aloong the other bank, pass the vault/tunnel, cross D629 and take the Rigole path.
Follow the track or go down the narrow path at the railing that takes you to the Vault, on the entrance side. Walk upstream alongside the Rigole and continue along the watercourse.
2 - Cross the road and follow the artificial stream.
3 - 40 m after the second stele, leave rigole de la Montagne and take the narrow path on the left down through the woods. At the crossroads, take the lakeside track on the left that runs alongside Cammazes reservoir, in the direction of the dam. At the crossroads, leave the rising track on your left and continue straight ahead until you reach the road.
4 - Turn right down the road to the reservoir. Go to the dam. Admire the panorama and take the time to read the information panels. Follow the same road for 500m to the bridge.
5 - Follow rigole de la Montagne on the right to the starting point.
