Lagarde is an ancient walled village founded at the beginning of the XIVth century by the overlord of Mirepoix. For more than half a millenium, the primitive fortified castle underwent numerous transformations. With the severity of a medieval fortress, the charm of a renaissance castle and the magnificence of a XVIIth century palace, the home of the Mirepoix Lévis reflects in its imposing ruins the evolution of high quality achitecture through the ages. Lagarde and its castle remained at the very heart of Mirepoix's seigniory up until the Revolution.

From the church beautiful hiking without difficulty that takes you out of the village along the river Touyre before joining the greenway to the village of Dreuilhe. Fit beautiful wood the descend to the hamlet of Campredon before taking the Bastide sur l'Hers which leads you along the ridges to the Chapel St ROC to join Laroque d'Olmes.

Path from Peyrat which leads to the hamlet of Mireval or "mira-valh" which means in Occitan "look at the valley". Until the mid-nineteenth century, Le Peyrat was an industrial center specialized in the manufacture of horn comb and leather goods.

After parking in the parking lot of the town hall of St-Julien, walk on a path between two hills before starting the climb leading you to the Pic d'Estelle, from where you will have a magnificent view of the Pyrenees.

The opportunity to discover three villages during this walk of 12 kms. Organized in a loop, a shorter variant is possible. Rich of small inheritance, it will make you discover the old water mill of Limbrassac and the source of the Lauzado in Troye d'Ariège.

This ride is set in the hilly surroundings of Pradettes. This village located away from the roads is worth a visit for the quality of its heritage and its flowering.

Leaving the greenway next to the Super U store, you will join a path along the woods and a stream in a loop that will take you to the ruins of Quié, a former hamlet demolished.

The architecture of the castle of Léran is a reflection of its long history. Built to be a defensive fortress in the thirteenth century, it was twice damaged during the religious wars and during the Revolution, and each time restored and embellished in the style of the time. What we see today : the slots of the dungeon, gable roofs, turrets, the bartizans evoke medieval architecture, but are actually reconstitutions "à l'ancienne" of 1880. The last squire was Academician Pierre Marie, Duc de Lévis-Mirepoix (1884- 1981), historian and novelist.

Cimbing the steps leading to the top of the observatory affords you a magnificient view over the Tabe massif and the lake.

The statue of the sainte vierge de l'oratoire has a special story behind it : it was, found on the plains between Camon and Lagarde. It was taken to Lagarde on an oxcart. Since it's been classified as an historical monument, the inhabitants of Lagarde are very attached to it.

The church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine was said to be on the Plaine de Magdelaine. It is recorded from 943, but no archives make any mantion of it from the XVIth century. As of today it has disappeared completely.

The name of this hamlet comes from the occitan mira valh meaning "look at the valley".

Come and stop at Lenclas lake ! Ideal for sharing a picnic, spending an afternoon or even a few days, Lac de Lenclas is set in a real green setting. With a surface area of 2 hectares and a depth of around 3 m, fishing is permitted. Children's play equipment is also available. And since 3 August 2023, there has been a Velorail on this tourist site. In 2026, a second circuit (2x7.5 km) with a Quizz game will open, heading towards Castelnaudary. An Accrobranche park is just 3 km from Lac de Lenclas. Please note, however, that swimming is prohibited.
