Mountain bike route "From Montsalvy to the Goul Valley”. Starting near the castle built on the ancient ramparts of the medieval village, this itinerary offers the opportunity to discover Montsalvy. This is an accessible and fairly easy route which offers beautiful panoramas, in particular that of the Puy de l'Arbre, which dominates this area from the top of its 830 m. This route will then offer mountain bikers beautiful views of the mountains and valleys, with several forest passages punctuating the route.

This path allows you to discover a past full of history and magnificent views of the Don Gorge. You will discover the ruins of a castle built in the Middle Ages: legend has it that in the 13th century there lived a very beautiful lady who, abandoned by her knight husband, began to write marvellous poems which made her famous: the Lady of Castel d'Auze. Hiking trail "The Goul Valley". Lapeyrugue overlooks the beautiful Goul Valley: the view of the Mounts of Cantal and the Aubrac Plateau is remarkable from the village. Hiking trail "The Chestnut trees". This walk will help you discover the hidden treasures of the traditional architecture of the Châtaigneraie, from the 16th century church to the beautiful farms with closed courtyards and entrance porches. The chestnut is celebrated every year in October during the famous Chestnut Fair which attracts thousands of visitors. You can also visit the Maison de la Châtaigne, a museum dedicated to the fruit of the “breadfruit” tree. Mountain bike route "In the heart of the chestnut trees". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points for €0.50. A tour that will allow you to appreciate many typical villages in the heart of the Châtaigneraie such as Calvinet, your starting point (at the church) or the ‘chestnut village’, Mourjou. There are superb viewpoints on a very varied route, including the Aubrac plateau, the north of Aveyron and the Rance Valley. Numerous rich and varied panoramas due to a fairly long circuit crossing several different types of landscape (forest, plain, countryside, towns).

You need to be in good physical condition to visit the keep, and the visit is not recommended for people suffering from claustrophobia or extreme vertigo. The southernmost river of Cantal is the Lot River. The valley is situated at 200 meters altitude. The weather is mild and shows another facet of the Châtaigneraie. Enjoy the beautiful panoramas (Montmurat, Aubespeyre), discover the history of the medieval castle, go canoeing...

Visit of the medieval fortress of Vieillevie (11th-13th centuries) in July and August. Storytelling tours (in French): Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm. Places are limited, so bookings must be made by text message or e-mail. The castle dominates the Lot Valley from its high towers. It is an authentic defensive fortress: sentry walks, archways, and defensive hoardings. Above the lower rooms carved into the rock, you will discover the large Renaissance rooms with their finely sculpted mullioned windows and their monumental 13th century fireplaces, among the oldest in France.

The scenographic space of the Lot Valley will take you into the life of the men of the valley at the beginning of the last century, through dynamic and interactive staging! In the square, note the wrought-iron cross depicting the various instruments of the Passion. Although the date inscribed on the granite base is 1800, the cross was actually made in 1750 and hidden during the revolutionary turmoil. It was made by Jean de Séguy, provost from 1745 to 1776. The statue of the Virgin Mary in a red sandstone niche (probably reused) on the façade, rebuilt in the 18th century, is a reminder that the church is dedicated to Notre-Dame de l'Assomption. However, the cult of St Bernard, the monastery's first abbot, quickly developed in the hearts of the first Montsalvy residents. This popular beatification, accepted by the ecclesiastical authorities, led to the dedication of a chapel in the church in 1258. St Bernard is therefore considered the patron saint of the parish (celebrated on the Sunday following 11 October). In the church, discover the exceptional polychrome wooden Christ, listed as a historic monument, the 20th-century ciborium (or baldachin) installed in the Romanesque choir, the shrines containing the relics of St Gausbert and Saint Bernard and two of the four boundary crosses: the cross of St Anne and the cross of Cambon. An adjoining vaulted room houses the Treasure of Sacred Art, a collection of priestly objects from the various churches of the St Joseph en Veinazès parish.

A medieval town founded in the 11th century by the monk Gausbert, who established a sauveté surrounded by 4 crosses, which guaranteed ecclesiastical immunity to those who took refuge there. Montsalvy, a Petite Cité de Caractère® almost a thousand years old, has retained the austere atmosphere of those ancient fortified villages, huddled in on themselves and still imbued with their medieval splendour.

Overlooking the village of Montsalvy, Mount Puy de l'Arbre offers a magnificent natural observatory stretching from the Mounts of Cantal to the Rouergue, passing through the Aubrac Plateau. Near the toposcope, a granite stele reminds us that in 1798, Jean-Baptiste Delambre and Pierre Méchain measured here an arc section of the Paris meridian between Dunkirk and Barcelona. This arc measurement served as the basis for the original definition of the metre. This stele is therefore a survey marker. Picnic tables.

Sénezergues is located South of the natural region of Veinazès, in the Southern part of the Châtaigneraie. The village above the Auze river is connected to two important hiking paths, crossing the diversity of the Châtaigneraie landscapes.

The site of the Devil’s Rocks has a great geological interest: it is a granite vein present in the commune of Junhac. This makes it one of the rare climbing sites in the Châtaigneraie.

L’Auberge Fleurie is a charming Cantal stopover in the area of the River Lot and the River Truyère, at an altitude of 800 m. Inspired by London pubs, Au Bureau is a pub, brasserie and restaurant all rolled into one. We offer a rich and varied menu, which changes twice a year, as well as delicious suggestions from the chef. The Anglo-Saxon decor is friendly and warm, like the team, always taking care of our customers. On Thursday evenings, we offer activities twice a month: Blind tests, karaoke or concerts and activities are put in place throughout the year.
