Climb up again to the junction at FONT NEGRE DIRECTION: ALBA Passing through “Serre Leroux” (altitude 400m), continue towards Alba by going down beside the small pond of Font Nègre Steady climb through the marlstones, then the Malavas plain up to BOURBOULET DIRECTION: ALBA You will walk across a prairie invaded with a multitude of blue flowers in the spring up to LA CROIX DE JULIAU DIRECTION: SUMMIT OF LA CROIX JULIAU Allow one hour out and back from Bourboulet to reach the summit of La Croix de Juliau (altitude 553m). Tradition has it that this toponym owes its origin to the passing of Julius Caesar. The etymology of Juliau does indeed point to the name or forename Julius, but really has no connection with Caesar! Then take the St Jean le Centenier direction to reach ARGENCE DIRECTION: ST JEAN LE CENTENIER by crossing the hamlet of Lablachère. Continue, passing through THEOULE The term théoule, from the Occitan teule : tile, means the place where tiles and pottery were fired. Return to the village via the path in the direction of St Jean le Centenier.

On the first slopes of the Cévennes, the hamlets and houses of Ribes are spread along “faïsses” or terraces, home to vines and olive trees. P - Turn left opposite the signpost. Follow the tarmac road for a few metres and turn right onto a dirt track, then turn left down the steps to the Alune stream. Cross the stream at a ford, turn right and walk along the river until you reach a small submersible bridge where you can cross back over the stream. Twenty metres after the bridge, turn right onto a path that leads up to the village through chestnut trees and vineyards. When you reach the tarmac road, turn left to leave the hamlet. Before the bridge, turn right between the houses and go up to the street. Turn left to Mas de Laffont.   Mas de Laffont - Follow Prades 2,6 km, Ribes 0,6 km. Pass the Flaüts fountain and then take the tarmac road to the right. At the hairpin bend, turn right. After a bend, pass the rubbish collection point, take a path on the left that climbs between the vines.  Cross over the tarmac road and take the steps between the houses up to the church in the middle of Ribes.  Ribes - Follow Prades 2 km, Saint André Lachamp 6,9 km. When you reach the first houses, turn left to take a small alley in the hamlet of Les Clots. Take the tarmac road at the hairpin bend. Take the road to the left that goes up to Le Serre.  Le Serre - Follow Prades 1,4 km. The road winds upwards to the last houses. The trail continues via steps on the side of the mountain and then curves right. As you begin to descend, ignore the track to your left and continue along the path. After descending, join the track, and go left until you get to Prades.   Prades - Follow Info Rando 2,7 km, Ribes 1,6 km. Continue along the path on the right. About 100m further on, take the path that leads to the hamlet of Labeaume. Pass through the entire hamlet then carry on until you reach the hamlet of Le Gelly via the tarmac road.   Le Gelly - Follow Info rando 1,2 km, Joyeuse 4,5 km. Take the road and at the first crossroads, go right. Continue straight on until you’re level with a stone cross. After a chestnut grove, at the stone cross, leave the road via a “calade” or stone path down to Le Prat.  Le Prat - Follow Info rando 0,6 km. At the crossroads, go down the steps on the left and follow the path that brings you back to the multi-purpose hall.

At the 1st gate continue up along the basalt cliff to the junction at LA PLAINE DU REGARD DIRECTION: BERZEME Then cross the pastures towards Berzème, crossing the junction at BRASSE NEGRE DIRECTION: BERZEME Follow a little road beside the fields up to the crossroads at FAUGERES DIRECTION: ST PONS You will then enter a typical Coiron pasture in which you will stay well over to the left following the markings. Then take a path that goes quite steeply down to La Roche Chérie. From this point, go back down the road to LA PEYRE DIRECTION: ST PONS From there, climb up through the middle of a field, where you will then continue along beside the fence and then turn right onto a path that will take you back to the village. Variant: at La Peyre, climb up to the left on a path on basalt flow deposits. Once on the plateau, turn right along the fences to cross the Plaine du Regard, with a magnificent view point! You will then come back to the Plaine du Regard pillar, which indicates the descent back to St Pons.

Largentière was named after "Argentaria", the silver mining area. It was founded in the11th cent. The 12th century is a period of great development thanks to Emporor Conrad who allowed to town to issue coins. The town It was founded in the 11th century. The Counts of Toulouse, the Bishops of Viviers, and the Lords of Anduze, Poitiers and Balazuc owned the silver mines. In the 12th century, this medieval city retained great cultural and economic development thanks to Emperor Conrad who granted them the right to mint coins. In 1208, Largentière was placed under the authority of the Counts of Toulouse who succeeded the Bishops of Viviers. In 1730, Bishop François Renaud de Villeneuve sold the castle and the Barony of Largentière to the Marquis François de Beauvoir du Roure de Brison. In the 1830s the silk industry reached its peak, and silkmills flourished all around. Take time to explore this medieval city whilst wandering through the picturesque streets. You will discover the sandstone facades, the arcades, the mullioned windows and beautiful ancient doors. The castle overlooks the town. In 1716 the Bishop of Viviers sold it to the Count of Brison who decided to renovate the building in order to make it more comfortable. In the middle of the castle, the square dungeon also known as Bastide de Bonnegarde was built in the 12th century. It was left intact during the Revolution, and it became a Court of justice and a prison, and a local hospital later on. Notre Dame des Pomiers church (from the latin “pomerium” which means “limit”) was built between the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century. It was extended in the 15th and 19th century. Inside Roman influences can be seen, such as a 13th century sarcophagus and a 15th century pulpit. An interesting detail: there lies the skull of the Count of Saillans who fought against the revolutionaries and was beheaded in 1792. The stairs of the Montée Mazon, which lead to the church, were built of stone from the remparts in 1888. The 16th century Recollets city gate is part of the medieval ramparts as well as the bridge over the river Ligne. They are both well preserved. From the bridge, you can see the canal, which would have brought water to the city shops, as well as the 19th century Court of justice, on the hill opposite, which looks much like a Greek temple. Don't miss the town hall: the back of this building is typically Renaissance.

The old village of Balazuc's blue stones grip the heady cliff face overlooking the river. What makes the village magical are its cobbles, steep lanes and squares surrounded by fig trees. To preserve the heart of the village, parking is available on either side of the town. Quartier du Pont : Also called the mercadio quarter or egg market, in reference to the market held since the Middle Ages outside the village walls, the bridge district features a few facades from the 15th century. Before the construction of the bridge, a ferry was used to cross the river. On the right bank we can see the remains of the landing stage.

The Ibie has its source at the foot of Coiron, in Villeneuve de Berg on the edge of St Jean le Centenier, then crosses St Maurice d'Ibie to flow into the Ardèche near Vallon Pont d'Arc. Along the Béalières, old mills, waterfalls and white pebble beaches, discover this superb but fragile valley. It is not uncommon to see it dry in summer, but infiltrated in its limestone bed, it continues to flow underground, only to resurface a few hundred meters further, to hide again a little lower. To discover this superb valley, it is recommended to visit it in autumn or spring, when the greenery of the vegetation competes in beauty with the turquoise waters. Picnic areas are easily accessible for families in the village of St Maurice d'Ibie and in the hamlet of Sallèles. If you discover fossils in the riverbed, take a photo of a souvenir and put it back down: subsequent visitors will thank you and the relief will be preserved. To educate your children about the importance of water, a “Water is Life” game trail is available. For smartphone enthusiasts, the fun and connected route of Les Sallèles is what you need. Randoland trails will help you discover Villeneuve de Berg and St Maurice d'Ibie in a fun way with children aged 4 to 12. On the road to Vallon Pont d'Arc, the valley of Ibie runs for 30 km. It is born at the foot of the Coiron and ends at the entrance of the Ardeche River. The river is usually dry most of the year but well known such as the " Hole of the Moon" (the dam of the old mill of "Noé"). The Ibie valley is full of lush vineyards and rows of lavender, it is the land of limestone as well. Its homes have "couradous" which are well-ventilated terraces, that are a testament to the Golden Age of Silk and its sericulture and thread making artistry. The village is made up of charming stone homes and cobblestone pathways which are perfect for a stroll. The hamlet of Salèlles is a part of St. Maurice d'Ibie. Regardless of the destruction of many of its arched passageways along the road leading to Vallon Pont d'Arc, there remain beautiful homes with beautiful archways with stairs at its exterior and two bread ovens, one belonging to the town and the other to a private owner. The high cypres trees not far from the hamlet, mark a number of cemetaries belonging to Protestant families.
