In 1099 the bishop of Poitiers, Peter II, gave the church of Romans to the abbey of Saint-Maixent. The church is dedicated to Saint Symphorien, martyred in Autun in the middle of the 3rd century for having refused to sacrifice to idols. Aware of the importance of pollinating insects in the food chain, she took a training course at the Magnerolle apiary school in Soudan (79), before setting up CaRo Les Ruchers. A hobby beekeeper in Sainte-Néomaye, her apiary consists of 3 to 10 hives from which she extracts 3 harvests of all-flower honey a year. Present at farmers' markets, she also educates young people and adults through workshops and exhibitions on domestic and wild bees. Her products, such as old-fashioned beeswax polish and handmade candles, are on sale at the Haut Val de Sèvre Tourist Office.
