The Chai d’Antin is a 17th century wine storehouse, with a monumental timber frame that has stood the test of time. The place is a reminder of the fact that, in 1761, Mugron was the farthest port down the Adour, from which Chalosse wines were shipped to Bayonne by barge. The building is the largest wine storehouse in the style of Béarn, despite its geographic location in Chalosse. It took no fewer than 500 m3 of oak – nearly 6 hectares! – to build the structure of this extraordinary storehouse. Fans of art and culture can head upstairs, where you will be impressed by the amazing rafters and exposed stone walls, as well as by the painters, photographers, sculptors and other artists chosen to display their pieces here. Chantilly Castle was built at the end of the 18th century. It is a capcazalier castle, a property free of rights and not under any lord. Its very sober architecture is characterized by its entrance porch topped by an imperial roof and supported by 2 Doric columns. On the garden side, a horseshoe-shaped staircase adorned with a beautiful wrought iron banister adds a delicate preciousness to this very regular building. Almost nothing remains of the original interior decorations, apart from the general organisation of the rooms, the main stairway and the lounges with wood panelling and polychrome stucco. The old park was redesigned in the 19th century. An 18th century kiosk, of which only the wooden skeleton remains, offers a beautiful view of the Adour. Today, the castle houses the town hall and is not open to visitors. The park has a playground.

The church has a Latin cross plan with a nave, two aisles and an overhanging transept. The four-bay nave is extended by a choir with a straight span and a five-sided apse. Two oriented apsidioles extend the transept The western facade is marked by a bell-tower-porch with a pointed arch portal falling on twin columns. It is flanked by buttresses and surmounted by a first level of twin oculus bays and a second with a single bay. At the top is a double lancet bell tower falling on a small column, topped by a bell-towered spire Each bay of the church opens to the outside through pointed arched windows. The north and south facades of the transept have a portal in pointed arch with scrolls falling on small columns, surmounted by an eight-petalled rose and a bay.

In Terres de Chalosse, kids have the right to explore things, too… A route through Mugron’s town centre gives children ages 6 to 12 the chance to learn about the town and its secrets. Through puzzles, treasure hunts and riddles (in French), your young ones can discover the sporting traditions, architectural heritage and history of Mugron and the inland part of the Landes. On the outskirts of the village of Mugron in Chalosse, discover this beautiful 2,500 seat Lande arena bedecked with flowers, built in 1911. Long before the arena was erected, this spot was already used for courses landaises. Back then, carts were arranged in a circle, for use as benches for spectators watching the competitors try to dodge the horns of bulls or cows (whence the old-fashioned term, “char-à-banc” (literally, “bench cart”)). The arena was formerly known as “the amphitheatre of the course landaise square”. Built using stone from Mugron and Angoulême, it has 400 seats in covered stands. The arena, a stop along Mugron’s heritage trail, still hosts courses landaises in the summertime, for local fêtes. As a curious detail, it has a home built into its outer wall. Bonus: Behind the arena, enjoy a magnificent view of the Adour and its alluvial plains.

The conservatory orchard of Mugron was created in 2014, with the support of the regional plant conservatory of Aquitaine. If you want to know more about fruit harvesting, or learn new techniques on harvesting old varieties, come and discover this orchard in Mugron, near the Peyranet accommodation. It will also be the occasion to discover a stork mast and the ceps of vines. An orientation table at the top of the orchard will allow you to find your way around and discover all the varieties. The signposting at the foot of the trees was done by the painter Stéphanie MICHELET (Steph Pomme) The orchard is open to all throughout the year to serve you, the fruits are waiting for you!

While a decree made the cemeteries the property of the communes and prohibited burials in the enclosure of the boroughs, the town council of Mugron voted in 1804 to enlarge the cemetery. The parish priest appealed to the faithful to finance it; parishioners who contributed could, if they wished, be buried there. The cemetery chapel was built in 1813 and consisted of two separate chapels: the large chapel, with its altar and 61 graves, and the small chapel. Thus, today there are some moving tombstones on the ground. They form an exceptional pavement of large polychrome marble slabs and black slate. The names of important families of Chalosse can be found there, in particular the d'Antin who left many memories in Mugron: castle, wine storehouse, church...

The Saucille site is a 4 hectare lake managed by the AAPPMA of Mugron located on the banks of the Adour. The fishing card is mandatory to practice. It is an idyllic place for nature lovers, relaxation and fishing. You will find a shaded picnic area. On this water level of 2nd category, you will fish with two hooks per line maximum. You will find : pike, common perch, pike-perch, black bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, lippu and hog mullet, eel...
