Château et Parc Chantilly

Mairie de mugron

Description

Chantilly Castle was built at the end of the 18th century. It is a capcazalier castle, a property free of rights and not under any lord. Its very sober architecture is characterized by its entrance porch topped by an imperial roof and supported by 2 Doric columns. On the garden side, a horseshoe-shaped staircase adorned with a beautiful wrought iron banister adds a delicate preciousness to this very regular building. Almost nothing remains of the original interior decorations, apart from the general organisation of the rooms, the main stairway and the lounges with wood panelling and polychrome stucco. The old park was redesigned in the 19th century. An 18th century kiosk, of which only the wooden skeleton remains, offers a beautiful view of the Adour. Today, the castle houses the town hall and is not open to visitors. The park has a playground.
