Unveil the Wonders Around Camping Saint Jean in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie

The Courchon path is one of the most grandiose, the most daring and the best preserved vestiges of a medieval road. 1 - Start the hike by climbing to the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir. Climb by the cobbled staircase and lined with small oratories. 2 - Once at the Notre-Dame chapel, go down a few meters to take the path on the right (yellow markings) indicated chemin de la chaine. Climb the steep path until you reach a first cairn, follow the indication ravin de Notre-Dame. At the next intersection, 100m further follow baisse de Courchon. 3 - Once to the baisse of Courchon, (post with arrow 28) turn right on the Roman road, pass a small pass and then down on Moustiers by the Roman road.

This walk will enable you to discover the village of Moustiers with its terrace crops sustained by dry-stone walls called "restanques" and olive plantations. Coming out the car park of the heights of Moustiers, go straight to the cemetery. Pass it and go towards the Chapel of St. Anne. Now head to the terrace crop area. After the olive groves, continue under the oaks in the middle of the restanques. Walk on flat ground for 1km. 1 - Then gradually go up on the left. 2 - At the crossroads, climb the path on the left and roam through a new decking area. Cross the ravine of Courchon and join after a slight rise in the woods, the rocky outcrop overlooking the valley of Angouire. Follow the signs and stay on the ledge to watch the valley of Angouire below (vertiginous path!). 3 - The same route is used for the return.

The GR®69 La Routo® is a 520 km hiking route that follows the old transhumance drailles, between the Crau plain in Arles and the Stura valley in the Italian Piedmont, 15 stages or 252 km are in the Alpes de Haute-Provence. Through these stages La Routo® allows the discovery of the most emblematic and diverse landscapes of Provence in the Alps, the route joins the Alpes de Haute-Provence by Gréoux-les-Bains, the Valensole plateau, Digne-les-Bains, Seyne-les-Alpes and Barcelonnette to pass by the Larche pass, and continue in Italy to Cuneo, in the Stura Valley. This last stage in the Verdon Regional Natural Park will take you through lavender fields as well as beautiful pine and oak forests. Stage Bras d'Asse - Le Chaffaut (20 km - 608m D+): This stage allows you to reach the Bléone valley via the abandoned hamlet of Lagremuse perched on its rock, and offering a beautiful panoramic view, discovery of large olive trees which bear witness to an important agricultural past. Stage Le Chaffaut - Digne-les-Bains (11,5 km - 190m D+): An easy and hilly stage which will allow you to discover the charming golf course of Digne-les-Bains passing through the pretty village of Gaubert which dominates the surrounding countryside. Then head towards the city center of Digne-les-Bains. Étape Digne-les-Bains - La Javie (20,5 km - 430m D+): This stage begins in the town centre of Digne-les-Bains and allows you to reach wild landscapes. In the second part of the route you will cross a refreshing forest before finishing the stage in the village of La Javie. Étape La Javie - Le Vernet (19 km - 840m D+): the route rises here towards the Col de Boullard in the heart of a green plateau and a sumptuous forest. The mountains are getting higher and higher, this stage will mark your entry into the Vallée de la Blanche. Stage Le Vernet - Seyne (14,5 km - 400m D+): The GR®69 enters here in its alpine part, with the crossing of the Blanche valley, the route is in the middle of the forest from the beginning to the end of the stage in Seyne. It is a very pleasant route, refreshing and always green. Stage Seyne - Le Laverq (21 km - 1360m D+): This is the longest and most difficult stage of La Routo route, but it is also the most beautiful. To shorten the route, a departure is possible from the Maison forestière de Bellevue. Beware of the risk of snow until June.

A beautiful hike from the picturesque village of Saint-Jurs to the summit of Agra and its breathtaking view of the Valensole plateau. In summer, the forest is sometimes closed due to fire risk. From the car park, return towards the village Take rue “Lou pas” opposite, then turn right into rue du Four. Pass under the old castle and join the Col de St Jurs road. Take in front. The marked trail quickly joins the road. Follow it for 500 m. Go up the marked route for another 2 km, alternating along the path in the woods and passages on the small road to the pass. After a final road crossing, join the path at a crossroads of marked routes. Leave access to the St Jurs pass on the left and continue straight on to the pass from where the path leads to the summit of Agra. The path quickly enters a rocky gorge (a little steep but not particularly difficult) then continue the path in bends up to the crest of the Agra. In the middle of the boxwoods reach the summit. Head back towards the summit of Montdenier and go down the path between the rocks to the woods. Turn left along the path and go down in bends, under the pines, to the track. Take in front. The route goes to the left, crosses a valley and joins the Levens track. Return, to the left, to the Col de St Jurs. Then take the path on the left 150 m after the car park and go down to the village.

On this walk you will the discover cabins in the middle, fields of lavender, wheat, canola, and sunflower. The beginning of the path is the same as for loop 1, only the way back differs. From the junction, take direction Puimoisson indicated by a hiking sign. Circulating on a rolling trail allowing you to admire a clear landscape, in front of the crest of Montdenier. When you reach a fork, turn left to find the Notre-Dame chapel, in the heart of an oak forest. Go down again to the foot of Puimoisson using a cobble path (be careful!), Where a last effort is necessary to reach the village. Upstream of the fork which leads to the Chapel, a variant is possible (right) to reach the road.

Exceptional views of where Lac de Sainte-Croix meets the Gorges du Verdon. A beautiful, steep, sporty and aerial circuit via the Col de l'Âne and Col de Plein Voir, located on the ridge overlooking the terminal part of the Verdon canyon. From the Félines parking lot, take the path towards the Bois de Félines and then the Col de l'Âne. At the pass, follow the GR4 to the right. At the Col de Plein Voir, continue straight ahead along the Issioule ridge (round trip) to the lookout. Back at the Col de Plein Voir, take a path on the left, which descends to the heights of the Saint-Maurin Regional Nature Reserve. The balcony route features some vertiginous passages, including one with a handrail. You eventually rejoin the original path, turning left to return to the parking lot. This trail is for experienced walkers only and not recommended for families.

Choose a family walk in the lavender fields and in the middle of the olive tree fields, two crops that testify of the glorious past of the agricultural city of Riez. From the hiking panels, at the car park of Pré-de-Foire, reach the Silo de Riez. Take the small road along the Colostre and go around the high school. 1 - At the H. Bourret Boulevard, turn left and reach the Sainte-Croix road. Cross it. 2 - At the police station, go to the right towards the Silo. 3 - On the Revesca path, turn right and head to Millarettes, then right again at the next intersection. Cross the departmental road D11 and go up the paved road across for 1.2km / less than a mile. 4 - Go up the road until the Millarettes plateau. At the ledge, take the second road on the right. Continue on the dirt road in the middle of the lavender plantations and the downy oaks for 1.6km / less than a mile. 5 - At the crossing of 3 paths, take the right trail in switchbacks, go down the valley of the Tailla through the oak trees. At the bottom of the valley, turn right. Go up the gravel path gradually until the road (point 4 -). Come back to Riez via the same route used to go.

The short walk of the "Roman columns" will lead you to the columns, isolated in the middle of their meadow. From the car park turn left.1- Cross the bridge then follow the path along the Colostre on the left bank (GR®4 towards Greoux les Bains). 2- At 200 m, take the bridge to reach the other bank and the 4 Roman columns. Possibility to continue the walk along the Colostre, flat and shaded path, by going up to the health course for about 200 m. The return is made by the same itinerary.

A family walk to discover Riez. At the top of the Saint-Maxime hill you will join after a small climb, the chapel overlooking the village. From the Pré de foire car park, cross the Colostre. 1- Go left to cross the square in direction of the church, to circumvent it by the left. Follow the road towards St-Maxime. After the wash house and the fountain, walk up the Faubourg St-Sébastien for 150 meters. 2- Turn right on the small road to St-Maxime (white and red signposting) .After a crossroads, continue ahead. Go up to the plateau by a small road (passage in front of the cemetery). Pass the Sainte Maxime source. 3- On the last part leave the road and turn right on a small path (yellow markers) to join the St-Maxime chapel. Pass in front of the chapel (point of water nearby) and cross the plateau. 4- 4- The descent on Riez is done by a path. At the foot of the hill, walk along the clock tower, down the stairs on the right, cross a small road and continue in front. After a few steps, the alley joins the Riez wash house. The return to the car park is done by the same route as the outward journey.

Path making... A bicycle from one shed to another From Riez, take a small communal road and climb up the plateau; the climb is arduous but promises a striking view of the Verdon mountains. Find a trail that is at first brittle and steep and increasingly rolling. Travel between truffle and lavender to the village of Puimoisson. Go down the plateau by the Moustiers road, between rolling trails and small secondary roads, then follow the Colostre (ford, potentially flooded, caution! possibility of variant while staying on the road) in the direction of Roumoules. Exit Roumoules by the GR4 and, after a few hundred meters, climb up the plateau via a steep and stony path (bifurcation loop 2). Amore accessible variant takes you through the trading estate. There is a straight and rolling trail completely open on the fields of lavender and olive trees that join the chapel of Sainte-Maxime. Take a last stony descent (variant possible by road) until the heart of the picturesque lanes of Riez.

Taking the emblematic Blanc Martel trail without taking your car couldn't be easier, thanks to the shuttle bus and the Zou 450 regional line (ex BV1 )from Riez, Roumoules, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Castellane. Shuttle service resumes on 28/04/2023. How does it work? The Zou 450 regional line links Riez to Castellane via the village of La Palud-sur-Verdon. From La Palud-sur-Verdon, the Blanc-Martel shuttle bus takes you to the Chalet de la Maline, the trailhead. The trail ends at Point Sublime (Rougon). For your return journey, take the shuttle bus to the village of La Palud-sur-Verdon and/or the regional line 450 to Riez or Castellane. Timetables... To ensure optimum operation, the timetables of the Riez-Castellane regional line (450) and the Blanc-Martel shuttle are coordinated. Online booking is highly recommended if you want to be sure of getting a seat! Please note that the shuttle does not return to Chalet de la Maline in the afternoon.

Since 1922, our mill extracts extra virgin olive oil, a genuine fruit juice, only with mechanical means to olive oil amateurs’ great joy. For more than 40 years we have been making cosmetics and soap made in a cauldron just like Marseille soap. The harvest of olives is done manually with hand and automatic combs to preserve olives quality. Then, we proceed to the grinding of the fruit with a simple mechanical method, without the addition of chemicals or change in temperature. At the end of the grinding, we get an extra virgin olive oil with a free acidity lower than 0.8%. Our mill produces a local extra virgin olive oil. Our olive oil is peppery and refreshing which is specific to the aglandau olives (90%). Nearly 400 olive growers bring their olives to supply you with: - Green fruity olive oil - Local olive oil All our products are available at our shop and online shop: olive oil, homemade products, Marseille soaps… We also make basil, mint and lemon oils. Olive oil sold at the Serres, Orpierre, Sisteron and Laragne tourist offices. We offer visits of our soap factory from April to September by prior arrangement.

The chapel was built in the 16th century, in the place of a chapel of the 12th century, with recovered materials from the towers and ramparts which were useless.

The fame of the chapel spread from the twelfth century especially because of the many miracles of the Virgin. The pilgrimage to Notre-Dame quickly gained momentum, encouraged by the Church which granted, or sold, indulgences to the pilgrims. In the 17th century, these pilgrimages took a particular form. Here were brought the stillborn children, who were resuscitated for a few moments, the time to baptise them and thus ensure the salvation to their soul.

The Provençal term "bancau" (pronounced bancaou) means literally "flower bed", "cultivated bed" and in a broader sense "crop-growing terrace" and here in Moustiers, a beautiful olive grove is cultivated. An olive grove is an orchard of olive trees, mainly for olive cultivation and production of olive oil. The olive groves are mainly located in the Mediterranean countries and in the Middle East. Without having the rank of royal road, in the eighteenth century it was an important communication route that connected Aix to Castellane. A battle took place on this Courchon in December 1746, one of the battles of the war of succession of Austria which earned Moustiers the fact to be occupied for a few days by the "pandors" (a word which designated the Austrian soldiers). This historic path, one of the jewels of the Provençal heritage, fruit of the ingenuity and work of the ancients is nevertheless fragile.

At the top of the trail you can enjoy beautiful views, including Lake St. Croix on the left, the Valensole plateau but also Mont Ventoux and Sainte-Baume.
