This stage will lead you from St Saud Lacoussiere to Nontron.

Leave for 6 days and 150 km of horseback riding and discover the heritage of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord Limousin. For this 3rd stage from Le Larret (Champagnac de Bélair), head for St Jean de Côle. You will discover the Romanesque-Byzantine church built around 1083, it has an unusual plan, unique in Périgord. Indeed it seems to be organized in a semi-circle around the apse. You will admire the Château de la Marthonie, a listed monument located in the heart of the village, which majestically dominates the pretty square of Saint Jean. One of the most famous residents of this building was Mondot de la Marthonie, first president of the Court of the Parliament of Bordeaux and then in Paris, adviser to the Queen Mother when Francis I went to Italy. Finally, even if you don't use it because of the very slippery pebbles, you will notice the stone bridge that spans the côle.

This site is classified as a sensitive natural area, and an observatory and a discovery trail are located along the way. Grey herons and great crested grebes fly away, court each other or build their nests in front of you if you are a good observer. Then head for Champs Romain, enter the heart of the valley and discover the Saut du Chalard waterfall between the foliage and the sheer cliffs. Nature reveals its beautiful treasures here: light, water and earth. You can also admire the work of Pierre Rapeau (1935-2007), a painter from the Périgord, on the rocks and trees.

The commune of Abjat-sur-Bandiat has 668 inhabitants. This population is spread over more than 39 villages, hamlets, mills and localities. The village is located in the center of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin, at an altitude of 300 m, on a peak that extends in peneplain towards the south to join the valley of the Dronne. The Bandiat is the stream that runs through the village. Abjat has its own parish church, placed under the patronage and protection of Saint-André, brother of Saint-Pierre, whose feast day is celebrated on November 30. It would have depended on a priory whose vestiges adjoin it to the north. The building, of original construction, is composed of two adjoining naves, on the left a 12th century nave with a beautiful semi-circular portal doubled on the right in the 15th century.

Situated on an organic cattle and apple farm, this independent gîte has been refurbished by Françoise and her family, each of whom contributed to the collective project. From the village, a sign indicates the direction to get to this magnificent natural site.
