As surprising as it is beautiful, this hike has plenty of surprises in store for you. The hike will first take you to the Esputs (or Sputs) chapel, nestled on a promontory. Every year in September, a pilgrimage takes place with the inhabitants of Chaum and the surrounding villages. After mass at the chapel, everyone climbs up together and ends with a picnic.

VELOSUD in Haute-Garonne: The route that runs along the Pyrenees, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean by bike! In Haute-Garonne, coming from Lannemezan, you enter via Saint-Bertrand de Comminges and then Saint-Gaudens. Then continue from Roquefort-sur-Garonne towards the Salat valley to reach the Ariège (Saint-Girons). A pleasant route, often on dedicated cycle paths, with spectacular scenery.

Hike around the episcopal city of Saint-Bertrand de Comminges. A stone's throw away is the Lespugues chasm, a geological curiosity. This hike in the Piedmont region includes a fairly steep climb up to the Mail du Hard, but it does not present any particular difficulty for hikers accustomed to this type of trail. Before setting off, please note that you will have a steep climb of about 20 minutes.

Discover the wild Labat valley, a stone's throw from the Occitanie grand site of "Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges - Valcabrère". This route, mainly through woodland, allows you to explore the surroundings of the city of Convènes. Although there are a few technical difficulties, it remains accessible and enjoyable in all seasons.

The climb up the Portillon Pass through the pine trees will not leave you indifferent. It is a Category 1 pass (average gradient 6.8%, maximum gradient 8.2%). From there, you will take From Marignac station, turn right towards Saint-Béat-Lez and then Spain to reach the foot of the Portillon pass at the exit of Bossost. At the top, descend towards Luchon and then return to Marignac via the D 125C and D 125. Each bend in the climb up the Col du Portillon honours one of the Spanish winners of the Tour de France, with a stele summarising their victories. The view is worth stopping for a moment to contemplate.

Pass through Saint-Bertrand de Comminges and you will be climbing towards the Port de Balès. This unclassified pass (average gradient 6.3%, maximum 11.7%) is tough, but at the top you will be rewarded with an exceptional 360° panorama of the high peaks of the Pyrenees. From Marignac station, head towards Loures Barousse / Saint-Bertrand de Comminges, then Sarp to reach Mauléon Barousse. This is the start of the climb up to the Port de Balès. Once at the pass, descend towards Luchon, passing through all the villages in the Oueil valley, before reaching Marignac station via the D125.

The big brother of the PC 19 route, this one will reward you with unobstructed views of the imposing Pic du Gar and the pretty Barousse valley. This route is a little more physically demanding than its younger sibling. It also has some slightly more technical sections, particularly on the descent.

Today we have 1,000 beehives which are located in the Pyrenees and which in the high season will be moved according to the flowering of the flowers and the varieties of honey we produce. An ancient marble quarry: one of the few in the world still in good condition, known for its "Roman breach" (in the township of Lez). Votive altars and marble quarries bear witness to the Roman occupation of Saint-Béat (ex Passus-Lupi). The Roman quarry, one of the few in Europe still maintained in it’s original state, has what is known as "Roman breche" marble, where you can still see signs from the marble quarrying.

Close to many activities and visits: the Garonne and the SNCF station are less than 10 minutes' walk away, so you can come by train from Toulouse without your car, as well as joining the TransGarona (cycling route from the Val d'Aran in Spain to Toulouse) or the ViaGarona, a stage on the route to Santiago de Compostela, from Toulouse to Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, one of France's favourite villages, just 9km away! The Montréjeau lake is just 3km away (30 minutes on foot or 15 minutes by bike) for swimming, water sports and golf. Saint-Pé-D'Ardet natural lake 17km away, formed in an ancient volcano. Bagnères-de-Luchon (skiing and thermal baths), Le Mourtis and Spain are a 40-minute drive away. This old house (1844) offers a splendid view of the Cagire and Gar rivers and has a private garden with a carport under the barn. You will be close to many tourist attractions: Pyrénées Emotions is 6km away (rafting, canoeing, climbing), Aspet is 12km away (shops, restaurants, cinema, market), the Pyrénées-Hô tree-climbing centre is 18km away, and Montréjeau (lake, golf course, train station), Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges (one of France's favourite villages), the Mourtis ski resort and the Ariège department are all within a 30-minute drive. Bagnères-de-Luchon is 36km away. The 12-person gite offers dormitory accommodation (sleeps 8) as well as a large private family room (sleeps 4) and two bathrooms. During the warmer months, the Gîte Tilia welcomes hikers, cyclists, workers and travellers passing through. Each year we have continued to renovate and equip the 90m2 gîte so that we can offer quality tourist accommodation at a low price. Over four seasons, we've noticed that women and LGBT+ people don't always feel comfortable in mixed dormitories. In fact, as we only have one dormitory, we haven't always been able to promise a safe space when asked. That's why we'd like to tell you how our project has evolved, in line with our values and the needs we've identified. A more suitable and cosy space. With a view to reopening in 2025, we are going to reorganise the space so that we have a larger, more welcoming dormitory, as well as a private room that can accommodate a couple/family or a small group of friends. A safer space for women and LGBT+ people. We would like to make our space available for mixed periods for women and LGBT+ people, so that we can welcome them in a more inclusive, respectful and secure facility.
