The Basque Corniche connects the bay of Saint-Jean-De-Luz and the Bay of Hendaye. This itinerary connects these two emblematic places of the Basque Country, passing by the Fort of Socoa and the Castle of Abbadia. So many names that make you dream! The historical itinerary is no longer accessible for security reasons (landslides). This new path, far from the traffic, allows you to discover beautiful panoramas on the Pyrenees as well as on the Atlantic Ocean. The Basque coast reveals itself to you in the most beautiful way!

From Saint-Jean-de-Luz to Hendaye, the route runs along the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and offers beautiful views of the protected cove of Socoa. Then, the route rises on ridges, spectacular and panoramic, before plunging back down to the large beach of Hendaye.

A 100% safe bike ride that takes you to the departure point of the Train de la Rhune. You'll cycle along the Nivelle valley to the village of Ascain, before taking the old tramway track, now a greenway, to the Col de St Ignace. It's a great way to discover the valley and a responsible way to get to the Train de la Rhune.

Located to the south of Saint-Jean-de-Luz railway station, this beautiful, peaceful, well-landscaped promenade runs along the River Nivelle from the Urdazuri district towards the Chantaco golf course. In the Basque Country, Saint-Jean-de-Luz lies in a bay on the Atlantic Ocean. A seaside resort, the town offers a fine sandy beach protected by three dykes built by order of Napoleon III, wilder beaches suitable for surfing (Lafiténia, Cénitz) and thalassotherapy centres for complete relaxation. Gourmet, it invites you to taste the Basque gastronomy and its products: the macaroons of Mr Adam (1660!), the mouchous and the Kanouga. Saint-Jean-de-Luz writes its history on plates of enamelled lava: the 19th century covered market, the traditional fishing port, still very active, from which the corsairs of Luz left, the Jacques Thibaud promenade facing the large beach, the casino complex La Pergola, the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste where the marriage of Louis XIV and Marie-Thérèse of Austria took place, the Louis XIV square and its 17th century residences.

Built in 1643 by a rich ship-owner, this house welcomed the young King Louis XIV for several months in 1660 when he came to sign the Treaty des Pyrénées and marry the Spanish Infanta Marie Thérèse in the Church of Saint Jean de Luz. The apartments in this splendid private house occupied by the King are open to the public who may admire the furniture and paintings from this epoch. Superb staircase. Since 2006, wax characters from the Grevin museum in St Jean de Luz may be viewed.

One of the most beautiful promontories of the Basque coast, halfway between Sainte-Barbe and Erromadie, at the top of two flysch cliffs, a kind of mille-feuille alternating hard and soft rocks. This place is known under the name of Archiloa which means "stone with a hole" in Basque language; a cross is set up there. The place is classified as a Sensitive Natural Area.

The port of Saint-Jean-de-luz was one of the great fishing ports of France. There was the heyday of whale and cod fishing. At that time, the rich shipowners built the most beautiful houses which today make the charm of the city. Then the port acquired its notoriety with the sardine and tuna fishing. Several boats (baitboats and pole-and-line vessels) have left their mark on the history of Basque fishing. Today, the fishing port is home to a quality artisanal fishing industry concerned with preserving the resource. The Saint-Jean-de-Luz hake is representative of this approach.

A convent was built in 1611 by the franciscan monks of the branch of récollets on a small island in the middle of the Nivelle whose property had never been determined. The chapel was ended in 1613 then the convent in 1643. In the center of the court of the convent, a well-tank was built in 1662 thanks to the generosity of cardinal Mazarin on the occasion of the marriage of Louis XIV. In 1791, the monks were hunted by the Revolutionaries.

The church Saint Vincent becomes parish church in1573, it is distinguished by its octogonal bell tower pagoda-shaped. The main door "end of renaissance era" framed by fluted columns with ionic capitals carried out in 1888 such as the interior restoration of the church.
