St-Michel l'Observatoire on horseback

A horseback ride in full which reveals the diversity of the landscapes and the harmony of the rural heritage of the Luberon. Turn left at the back of the parking lot, pass the town hall and follow the street to the right for 300m. 1 - Take two rights. Pass in front of the cemetery, take a left at the 1st intersection and turn right after the steep path. Further down, climb the narrow path to the left. At the top, take the track to the right, then continue straight. At the crossroads "Tour de Porchères", turn left, pass a house, then turn right. Head into the woods (stony passages) and go around by the right the old quarries (private property). Take a right at the Y-shaped fork. 2 - At the crossroads "Petit Sauvan", turn left towards Saint-Jean. Turn left after 150m and continue straight (low branches). Continue the track, pass a house and turn left on the small road. Descend on the D305 and follow to the left for 200meters (traffic!). 3 - Turn right, go past the shed and ascend calmly (pebbly section). Turn left at the first crossroads, go along an old wall and go down to go up on the plateau. At a series of crossroads, continue straight. Reach to the D5 (traffic!), descend 50m to the right, then turn left. At the crossroads "Le Roure", continue straight. then pass over a home. Take two lefts and reach the D205. Continue on the right until Lincel (traffic!) 4 - In front of the church, turn left and continue straight when exiting the village. Leave the GR on the right to continue on the small road. At the end, go across and pass under a rocky ridge (source) and continue on the path into the woods (smooth slope). After a steep path, take the path on the right going down until the D205. 5 - Follow the road to the right that leads back to St-Michel-l'Observatoire (traffic!). At the entrance of the village, do not turn across the narrow one-way, but continue on the right. At the stop sign, go straight to reach the car park of the starting point.

A stroll around the Observatory

From the Earth to our star! Between harmonious landscapes and a rural heritage, to be paired with the astronomy centre of Haute-Provence. Turn left at the back of the car park, pass the town hall and follow the street to the right for 300m. 1 - Take the little road that goes to the right below the D305 and then take a quick right and go past the cemetery. Go left at the first intersection. After a steep hill, turn right on the small road which turns into a path 200m further. Behind a well marked shift to the right, climb the narrow path to the left. At the top, take the track to the right, then 70m further, continue straight. Turn right again and then left. At the crossroads'Tour de Porchères'', turn left, walk along the tower, go past a house then turn right. Then, from the right, go around the old quarries of Porchères (private property). Take a right at the next Y-shaped fork. 2 - At the crossroads ‘"Petit Sauvan", turn left towards Saint-Jean. Turn left after 150m, then continue straight through a path that narrows down and enters the woods. Reach a track and continue straight along a beautiful house and continue the track. When you come out on the track, turn left on the small road. Go down the road and reach the D305. Continue on the left for 200m. 3 - Turn right, pass between a farm and a shed, then rise slowly. At the first apparent crossroads (transformer) turn left. Go along an old wall, take a slight descend and go up the opposite side of the valley. After a marked turn on the left, turn right and come out on the plateau. Continue straight for 500m. 4 - At the crossroads (point 632), take the path going down to the left and thus reach the D5, a kilometre below. When you come out on the road, take a quick left and take the small road. Continue straight at the next intersection and go down to the village. After the wash-house, turn right and return to the starting point through the streets used to go.

Tour of the Plan des Aires on mountain bike

Tour No.11 of the site VTT FFC Pays de Forcalquier - Montagne de Lure. A short but nice getaway, not strenuous but varied. Back towards the tourist office, go right, pass in front of the Notre-Dame du Bourget gate and weave into the Rue Mercière. 1 - Turn left and then right unto Rue Passère. Continue left unto Rue Violette and Avenue Jean Giono. Ascend unto the road and reach the plateau. At the stop sign, continue to go left, on the 3rd departure route, keep left (direction Charembeau) and reach the summit of Plan des Aires. 2 - Just after two cypresses that mark the entrance to a path, turn left between two sycamores and go down the road in the big field. Down below, go straight unto a wooded path. Leave a ramp to the right and continue the single track in dirt (two beautiful banked corners on the left trace). 3 - Reach the road in front of the hotel Charembeau, go right. Turn right at the 1st intersection and take the next left track. Take a right unto the D216. 4 - Up to a pumping station, turn left and go down the Cléoux track. At the 1st left turn, go across on the edge of the field. Continue a little further down the path to the right of the field. Cross a large cultivated area and then go up a path that passes between two beautiful dry stone walls. Go straight on the path of the Grand Oratory said of Chasseou. 5 - Come out on the D216 and take a right on Rue Paradis. Continue straight on Rue Saint-Pierre, Rue Marius Debout, Rue Grande and Rue Planchud. Then, in the Rue des Cordeliers, turn left on Rue Mercière to return to the starting point, Place du Bourget.

Forcalquier and its fortress

A stroll in the heart of the characterful town, to discover its rich heritage and its troubled history! With your back towards the tourist office, take a right, pass in front of the Notre-Dame du Bourget gate and go into the Rue Mercière. 1 - Turn left and then right unto Rue Passère. Continue on Rue Saint-Mary to the right. Climb the calade (cobblestone path), pass 3 curves and leave the Chemin de Croix to engage in front on long walks on the plateau. Pass another 3 switchbacks and go into highest chamber to the left. Walk around, come back out and turn left. At 1st intersection, continue straight down, through the gate and below the calade, do not miss the entrance of the narrow passage to the left. 2 - Take a sharp left and reach the St John church. Retrace your steps to point 2, then continue straight on the Rue Saint-Jean. At the corner of the Esplanade Marius Debout, turn left on Rue du Collège. Come out at the Jeanne-d'Arc fountain to the right. 3 - Go to the left and reach a little further to the right, the former Recollects Convent. Retrace your steps to point 3, then continue straight on the Rue Marius Debout and the Rue Grande. Turn right and reach to the left the Place du Palais. Continue on the Rue du Palais, reach the Place Saint-Michel and its great fountain, then turn right on Rue Eugène Planchud. 1 - Take again the Rue des Cordeliers, continue straight down and after two curves, cross the Porte des Cordiers. A little further down, turn left. 4 - Cross the street and step into the underpass of the Grand Carré. Go into the convent's cloister. Come out through a small door, on the opposite side to the left. Once in the garden, turn left to come out on the Impasse des Cordeliers (dead end). Return to point 4. From there, turn right on the Boulevard des Martyrs de la Résistance, then turn left on Rue des Lices, and go immediately to the right on the small cobblestone street. Go straight, cross a narrow archway and come out behind the Notre-Dame du Bourget church. Go along the enclosure to return to the starting point of the route.

The Rochers des Mourres

The Rochers des Mourres

A trail that joins the protruding and strange rocks of Mourres since the joyfull city of Forcalquier. A must-see! With your back turned to the tourist office, at the Bourget town square, go left on the Marcel-André avenue and go straight until the intersection of the Route de Fontienne (D12). Continue across on the Saint-Marc avenue (RP). At the end of the 1st curve, go slightly to the right into a narrow street. Exceed the water tower that points to the left and cross a narrow passage between two walls. Turn right before the Saint-Marc chapel. Remain to the right on the ascending path.  Pass the last houses and 200m further, go left to follow the trail that goes below the aerials (antennas). Reach lower down the crossroads "La Parise". 1 - Continue straight. Quietly go up the trail, continue on a wider path and reach the crossroads "Le Grand Travers."  Continue straight, pass the information panels and 70m further, reach the the crossroads of Mourres to the right. 2 - Turn right and follow carefully the markings of the path between the rocks. Go towards the left and then down to the car park at the roadside (D12). Cross the road and go across on the path descending downstream on the Mourres site. Further down, do not to miss the path on the right (signpost). Reach the bottom of the ravine and cross. On the other side, advance 50m left on a clear path, then turn immediately right to climb the stony steep path (marking barely noticeable). Go up the winding paths and come out on the road. Go across and reach the crossroads "Ravin de La Parise" just above. 3 - Take a sharp left, out on the D12, take a left turn on 250m in front of the farm. Lower down at the next intersection, continue down to the right along the olive groves and the cemetery to come out on Chemin des Moureisses. Go straight down, reach the Fontauris avenue. Turn right, go past a nursery school then turn left onto the L. Andrieux to return to the Bourget town square.
