The golden wine flows in the Sauternes region, known worldwide for its famous sweet white wines. The Sauternes region is crossed by the Ciron. This modest tributary from the Landes region is essential to the development of botrytis cinerea, which, in autumn, creates the great sweet wines, described by Mauriac as "an exaggeration of the exquisite". The Sauternes region is a gentle place to discover, rich in a thousand details, with its omnipresent stone walls revealing the abundance of limestone on the ground. The map-guide is available at the Tourist Office.

New PDIPR 2026 itinerary: The CIRON (Sirio in Latin) is a river of great importance to the geography and general economy of southern Gironde. It separates the forested part of the Landes region to the south on its left bank from the cultivated part to the north on its right bank. The Ciron valley has always been an important axis of life, with the construction of fortifications in feudal times, the passage of pilgrims from Santiago de Compostela, the building of mills and the floating of timber. Once you've left all the noise and civilization behind, set off on a voyage of discovery along the river's "gallery forest", a sort of forest corridor that characterizes the Ciron valley.

Discover Langon and the surrounding area, starting with a forest trail and continuing along an urban cycle path, ending on the SCANDIBERIQUE cycle path (with the option of joining the VELODYSSEE along the Atlantic coast). Meet the Garonne and Langon's shops.

Discover the forest on the edge of the vineyards and the CIRON river. At the start, join the SCANDIBERIQUE cycle path (possibility of joining the VELODYSSEE) takes you into the Landes de Gascogne forest, passing through the charming little villages of LEOGEATS and ROAILLAN.

Discover the forest, along the cycle path and forest tracks, towards the SAUTERNES vineyards. Admire the CRUS CLASSES 1855 wine châteaux on hillside paths. At the end of the week, Château FILHOT's gate is closed, so go around it to the right, admiring its grounds. At the end of the tour, you'll return to the bottom of the vineyard.

Discover this family trail on the local roads around Château YQUEM.

Situated on the edge of the Landes forest, this loop, ideal for families because of its medium distance, offers a wide variety of landscapes: heritage monuments, vineyards, forest, stream...

This booklet was created by the children of the Preignac leisure center. Follow the trails of Robin and his friends to discover the architectural and landscape heritage of the village of Preignac. You'll set off from the Place de la Mairie to visit the Church of St Vincent, the old port and the Château D'Armajan des Ormes, then return to the starting point via the Salle des Fêtes. A self-guided walk for the whole family to discover the little-known history of this South Gironde village. At the end of the tour, don't hesitate to ask the tourist office for the famous collector's sticker!

Fruit of a rare confluence of geology, geography, climate and the extraordinary fungus we call noble rot, Yquem is a miracle of nature, captured through prodigious human spirit and savoir-faire. Across its 400-year history, the estate’s caretakers have refined a philosophy of winemaking at once meticulous and audacious, in a search for perfection so risky that ten entire vintages have been left unbottled since 1910. Even the most generous harvests yield but a solitary glass of Yquem per vine. This elixir of exceptional opulence and complexity, whose brilliant golden hue evolves in the bottle across decades like the sun’s rays from dawn to dusk, was once described by the French novelist Frédéric Dard as “drinkable light”.
